Quantifying Musical Performance After Treatment With Myobloc in Musician's Dystonia
Focal DystoniaThis study uses a computerized method of musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) quantification of performance before and after treatment with botulinum toxin type B (Myobloc ®, Solstice Neurosciences). Myobloc is a purified and diluted form of botulinum toxin used medically to relax unwanted muscle spasms and movements. The aim of the study is to determine the feasibility of quantifying change in performance following treatment.
Childhood Hypertonia of Central Origin: A Trial of Anticholinergic Treatment Effects
DystoniaThis study is an open-label trial of trihexyphenidyl in children with upper extremity dystonia due to cerebral palsy. It is hypothesized that trihexyphenidyl in doses up to 0.75mg/kg/day would be well-tolerated and show significant changes on the Melbourne scale of upper extremity function.
Neuroablation Versus Neuromodulation Techniques for Treatment of Secondary Dystonia
Secondary DystoniaThe disability inflected by dystonia encouraged the development of many neurosurgical procedures. This is a prospective study included 120 patients suffering from intractable secondary dystonia. They were subjected to different neurosurgical treatments and were assessed through the follow up period
Effect of Botulinum Toxin Type A on Swallowing in Patients With Cervical Dystonia
TorticollisThe purpose of this study is to evaluate swallowing efficiency in patients with cervical dystonia following treatment with botulinum toxin Type A.
IncobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin) Versus Placebo in the Treatment of Cervical Dystonia
Cervical DystoniaAt baseline patients received incobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin) or placebo. Thereafter, all patients who entered the extension period were treated with up to five injection sessions of incobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin) during the extension period.
Neurotoxin and Physical Therapy
Cervical DystoniaThis study aims to compare Botox injections without Physical Therapy sessions to Botox injections combined with Physical Therapy sessions for treatment of Cervical Dystonia. It is expected that Botox combined with Physical Therapy will improve Cervical Dystonia symptoms and quality of life more than Botox alone. It is also expected that Botox combined with Physical Therapy will enhance neuroplasticity, or the ability of the brain to make new connections, more than Botox alone at 4-5 weeks, and remain improved at 12 weeks, after Botox injection.
A Randomized Controlled Trail Comparing Subthalamic and Pallidal Deep Brain Stimulation for Dystonia...
DystoniaThe purpose of this study was to compare the subthalamic nucleus(STN) with the globus pallidus internus(GPi) as a stimulation target for deep brian stimulation(DBS) for medically refractory dystonia.
Thalamic Deep Brain Stimulation for Spasmodic Dysphonia- DEBUSSY Trial
Spasmodic DysphoniaLaryngeal Dystonia1 moreLaryngeal Dystonia (LD), also commonly referred to as spasmodic dysphonia, is a neurological voice disorder characterized by involuntary dystonic contractions of the laryngeal muscles. Current treatments such as botox and voice therapy only provide temporary relief and thus, the investigators are exploring new strategies to provide long-term, sustained improvement. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure that involves the implantation of electrodes to deliver electrical stimuli to specific brain regions. It is the standard surgical treatment for many other movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and primary dystonia. This trial has been designed to test the hypothesis that DBS can improve the vocal dysfunction of LD.
Task-dependent Operation of a Mechanism Intracortical Inhibition in Dystonia
DystoniaPrimaryCortical excitability depends on inhibitory mechanisms efficiency among which long latency intracortical inhibition (LICI) can be studied by paired pulses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Some recent evidences suggest that LICI may be one of the mechanisms by which the motor comment is adapted to the ongoing motor task with LICI strength being dependent on task complexity. In writer cramp and musician cramp, two forms of dystonia, the cortical excitability is not correctly modulated in some complex gestures. the hypothesis is that this task dependent perturbation of excitability in writer cramp could be due to a lack of LICI efficiency.
An Open Label Safety and Immunogenicity Study of MYOBLOC (Neurobloc; Botulinum Toxin Type B) Injectable...
Cervical DystoniaFive hundred patients with a confirmed clinical diagnosis of Cervical Dystonia (CD)are planned for enrollment into this open label study. These patients will be Type B toxin naive patients with CD. During this study patients will receive repeat injections of MYOBLOC when deemed appropriate by the Investigator. However, it will be recommended that injections occur not more frequently than every 12 weeks. Total duration of exposure to MYOBLOC will be targeted for at least two years, with potential exposure for up to 7 years in patients with earliest enrollment
