Addition of Pudendal Blocks to Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy for the Treatment of Pelvic Floor Tension...

Pelvic Floor Muscle Spasm

Pelvic floor tension myalgia (PFTM) is increasingly noted in patients with chronic pelvic pain. Pelvic floor physical therapy is typically utilized and is at times combined with other therapies such as botox injections, trigger point injections or pudendal blocks. The investigators' study will randomize newly diagnosed patients with PFTM to weekly . Final patient assessment will be performed at 6 months to assess durability of response. Primary hypothesis: The addition of pudendal blocks to standard pelvic floor physical therapy will result in lower pain and pelvic floor muscle tension scores, lower baseline vaginal pressure and increase pelvic floor strength. Secondary hypothesis: The addition of pudendal blocks to standard pelvic floor physical therapy will result in a lower pain score in a shorter time frame, resulting in faster progress through physical therapy.

Clinical Evaluation of QFlu Combo Test

CoughMyalgia5 more

Currently effective antivials for influenza treatment are two influenza viral neuraminidase inhibitors, oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza). Resistance to these drugs is reflected by reduced susceptibility of viral neuraminidase to these drugs. The hypothesis is that the signal ratio of two reagents (with or without a single concentration of the drug) correlates the IC50 value, an accurate measurement of drug resistance but impractical for clinical use.

Cocoa Intake and Muscle Pain Sensation

Muscle Pain

This experimental randomized, double-blind, and controlled study included fifteen young, healthy, and pain-free men and 15 age-matched women. It lasted for three visits with at least one-week washout. Pain was experimentally induced, twice at each visit, with intramuscular injections of 0.2 mL hypertonic saline (5%), before and after intake of one of the different chocolate-types; white (30% cocoa-content), milk (34% cocoa-content), dark (70% cocoa-content). Pain duration, pain area, peak pain, and pressure pain threshold were assessed every fifth minute after each injection, between the time-points 5 to 30 min. Prior to inclusion, all participants underwent an examination in a dental chair. This included a clinical examination of the orofacial region according to the Diagnostic Criteria for temporomandibular disorders (DC/TMD) by a blinded examiner. Participants were also examined regarding their psychosocial status prior to inclusion, this included depression, somatization, anxiety, pain catastrophizing and stress.

Inspiratory Muscle Training in ME/CFS and COVID-19 Survivors

Myalgic EncephalomyelitisPost-acute COVID-19 Syndrome

Coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) is a viral disease leading to respiratory dysfunction, but it may also affect the brain and result in the development of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). This may be the result of the COVID-19 virus infecting regions of the brain responsible for respiratory control. The symptoms of COVID-19 long haulers and ME/CFS may be lessened via an 8-week inspiratory muscle training protocol which is a simple and easy training protocol which can be done at a patient's home. Thus, this project will investigate changes in the breathing and cardiovascular responses to stimuli in three groups of participants: 1) healthy control individuals; 2) patients diagnosed with ME/CFS (mild to moderate symptoms); and 3) individuals with previous COVID-19 infection with long-haul symptoms lasting for at least 3 months. Participants will 1) breathe hypoxic gas (10% O2) for 5 minutes; 2) breath hypercapnic gas (5% CO2) for 5 minutes; 3) breathe at a rate of 6 breaths per minute for a total of 8 breaths (paced deep breathing); and 4) complete 10 minutes upright tilt (70 degrees head up on a tilt-table). Patients will also complete 2 questionnaires concerning their symptoms and a 15 minute cognitive function test on a lab laptop. This will allow for the assessment of the brain's control over blood pressure and breathing. Participants will also complete a 6-minute walking exercise test at their own speed as a measure of their aerobic fitness. We hypothesize that COVID-19 survivors will have a worse cardiovascular and autonomic response and lower fitness, similar to ME/CFS patients, compared to healthy participants.Further, this will be improved after 8-weeks of inspiratory muscle training. These results may help clinicians recognize ME/CFS symptoms in patients recovering from COVID-19.

Acute Study on Muscle Soreness, Damage, and Performance

SorenessMuscle2 more

The acute study will evaluate pre- and post-exercise ingestion of a multi-ingredient supplement in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover design. Participants will complete one enrollment visit, in which they will sign a consent form and complete a health history questionnaire. Participants will complete two interventions, with three visits each (6 visits total), in which a treatment beverage (pre/post supplement, or non-caloric placebo) will be consumed within 30 minutes prior to exercise and within 15 minutes post-exercise, in random order. Total time from enrollment to completion will be at least 14 days. Testing visits will be separated by a minimum of 7 days of rest to allow for recovery and washout, based on a half-life of ≤8 hours for all ingredients present in the supplement.

Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Dental Students About COVID-19

Acute Respiratory Distress SyndromeCorona Virus Infection7 more

Coronavirus disease 2019 (abbreviated "COVID- 19") is a pandemic respiratory disease that is caused by a novel coronavirus and was first detected in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The disease is highly infectious, and its main clinical symptoms include fever, dry cough, fatigue, myalgia, and dyspnoea.1 In China, 18.5% of the patients with COVID-19 developed to the severe stage, which is characterized by acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock, difficult-to-tackle metabolic acidosis, and bleeding and coagulation dysfunction. After China, COVID-19 spread across the world and many governments implemented unprecedented measures like suspension of public transportation, the closing of public spaces, close management of communities, and isolation and care for infected people and suspected cases. The Malaysian government had enforced Movement Control Order (MCO) from 18th March to 4th May 2020 and henceforth Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) until 9th June 2020. The battle against COVID-19 is still continuing in Malaysia and all over the world. Due to the CMO and CMCO in the country, public and private universities have activated the e-learning mode for classes and as the government ordered, universities are closed and no face-to-face activities allowed. This has forced students of all disciplines including dentistry to stay at home which are wide-spread across Malaysia and shift to e- learning mode. To guarantee the final success for fight against COVID-19, regardless of their education status, students' adherence to these control measures are essential, which is largely affected by their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) towards COVID-19 in accordance with KAP theory. Once the restrictions are eased students have to come back and resume their clinical work in the campus. Hence, in this study we assessed the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) towards COVID-19 and the students preference for online learning.
