Pain in America: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Orthopaedic Related Pain (Musculoskeletal Pain)

Each day orthopaedic surgeons worldwide treat patients with musculoskeletal pain. But little evidence exists about orthopaedic patient understanding of the common methods of managing musculoskeletal pain. Therefore, it is our aim to determine which discussion method best improves patient comprehension of common methods of managing pain.

ITU Treatment for Chronic Epicondylitis Musculoskeletal Pain Reduction

Tennis Elbow

This study evaluates the effectiveness, safety and patient tolerance for the use of Intense Therapeutic Ultrasound (ITU) for chronic, subcutaneous lateral Epicondylitis musculoskeletal tissue pain reduction began in July 2015 and was completed in March 2017. The More Foundation/The Core Institute: Single-blinded pivotal study for the treatment of chronic lateral epicondylitis. A total 29 patients received 2 treatments, 4 weeks apart on subcutaneous musculoskeletal tissues along with Standard of Care treatments as prescribed by the Principal Investigator. Patients were followed for up to 6 months after the first treatment receiving a physical exam at each follow-up visit (4, 8 and 12 weeks) and provided feedback via Patient/Subject Reported Outcome Measure surveys specific to the treated anatomy at each visit and via phone follow-up at 26 weeks after the first treatment.

Effects of a School-based Exercise Program on Posture, Trunk Range of Motion, and Musculoskeletal...

Musculoskeletal and Connective Tissue Disorders

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a school-based exercise program on posture, trunk range of motion and musculoskeletal pain in schoolchildren. This study was a Randomized controlled trial. The hypothesis was that the exercise group would have the postural deviations corrected, would have the trunk range of motion increased and would have the prevalence of pain decreased, while the control group would have not. Three schools from Brazil participated. The students that have been included (n=300) were randomly allocated to experimental (EG) or control group (CG). The intervention for EG consisted in a program based on stretching and strengthening exercises, applied twice a week, for eight weeks, with group sessions of 50 minutes. CG did not perform any intervention. Qualitative and quantitative postural evaluation (PAS/SAPO), musculoskeletal pain (self-report) and trunk mobility were collected.
