Chronic Musculoskeletal PainChronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) is highly prevalent, disabling, and with high socio-economic costs, with many negative effects on quality of life. CMP affects the ability to perform work, social, recreational and domestic tasks, changing the mood and concentration of this population. Despite the worldwide prevalence and socioeconomic burden of CMP, a clear understanding of its etiology and pathogenesis remains elusive. Aims: (i) to analyze the possible level of association between pain-related fear, fear of movement, self-efficacy, and pain acceptance with pain intensity and disability at the start of the study and prospectively evaluate its predictive function; (ii) to evaluate the possible mediating role of fear of movement and self-efficacy in the relationship between pain-disability in patients with CMP.

Aims: (i) to analyze the possible level of association between fear of pain, fear of movement, self-efficacy, and pain acceptance on pain-disability at the start of the study and prospectively evaluate its role as a risk factor; (ii) to evaluate the possible role as a prognostic factor of fear of pain, fear of movement, self-efficacy and pain acceptance in those who develop musculoskeletal pain at follow-up; (iii) explore the possible mediating power of fear of movement and self-efficacy in the relationship between pain-disability; (iv) investigate what percentage of the variance accounts for beliefs (fear of pain, fear of movement, self-efficacy, and acceptance of pain) in predicting the onset and / or maintenance of musculoskeletal pain.

Work-Related ConditionBurnout3 moreSafety & Health through Integrated, Facilitated Teams (SHIFT) is an intervention study to enhance employee health, safety, and well-being in public sector healthcare institutions in New England. The investigators will evaluate the effectiveness of an adapted form of the Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW) Healthy Workplace Participatory Program (HWPP) for strengthening cohesiveness, engagement, and impact of pre-existing joint labor-management health and safety committees. The sites are enrolled in three pairs, matched by agency and type of services. For each pair of sites, one will be randomly selected for immediate HWPP coaching. The paired organization will serve as a control until the study mid-point, at which time all sites will be coached. Process evaluations will examine barriers to and facilitators of program uptake, reach, and effectiveness. Survey data and injury records will be examined in intervention and control groups to describe the frequencies of workplace and non-occupational exposures of selected health outcomes.

The squatting movement (going down from a stand up position, bending the ankle, knee and hip joints, and then returning to the stand up position, while not lifting the feet from the supporting ground surface) is a simple motion that involves all three types of movements: eccentric (the going down), isometric (holding the down position for a couple of seconds) and concentric (the coming up). It is hypothesized that non-healthy subjects will not have "smooth" movements, and posturography could be used to separate between healthy and non-healthy subjects.
