RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known which combination chemotherapy regimen is most effective in treating older patients with multiple myeloma. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy with or without cyclophosphamide and prednisone in treating older patients with multiple myeloma.

Steroids, such as dexamethasone or prednisolone, may help relieve some of the side effects of chemotherapy. It is not yet known which regimen of chemotherapy plus steroid therapy is more effective in treating patients with multiple myeloma. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of two different regimens of chemotherapy plus steroid therapy in treating patients with multiple myeloma that has recurred for the first time.

Combining chemotherapy with peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have multiple myeloma.

RATIONALE: Giving chemotherapy drugs, such as fludarabine and melphalan, before a donor bone marrow transplant or peripheral blood stem cell transplant helps stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells and helps stop the growth of cancer or abnormal cells. When the healthy stem cells from a donor are infused into the patient they may help the patient's bone marrow make stem cells, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving combination chemotherapy followed by donor bone marrow transplant or peripheral stem cell transplant works in treating patients with hematologic cancer or genetic disorders.

Enzyme products such as Wobe-Mugos E may help to reduce the side effects of multiple myeloma therapy. It is not yet known if chemotherapy is more effective with or without Wobe-Mugos E in treating multiple myeloma. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of chemotherapy with or without Wobe-Mugos E in treating patients who have stage II or stage III multiple myeloma.

The purpose of this trial is to study the effects of a medication already widely used to treat cardiovascular disease and diabetes, in reducing the progression of myeloma.

The purpose the research is to obtain preliminary data about the change in fitness from admission to discharge in patients undergoing an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant (ASCT) , assessed by the 6 minute walk test as the primary objective and the SF-36 as the secondary objective. All subjects will wear a Fitbit monitor while admitted for the ASCT to record their daily activity.

This investigator initiated trial was a prospective, open, single-arm, diagnostic-prognostic study. Patients who received high-dose therapy with autologous stem cell transplantation for the treatment of their lymphoproliferative disease were included into the study. After completion of the high-dose therapy (day -2 with respect to the stem cell transplantation) the first blood sample A for the cytocapacity test with determination of leukocytes and neutrophils was taken in the evening of day -1. Directly thereafter the study medication was administered. The second blood sample B for the cytocapacity test with determination of leukocytes and neutrophils was taken in the morning of day 0, 12-14 hours after administration of the study medication. Thereafter the stem cell re-infusion was performed. The primary objective of this study was to show that the cytocapacity test with lenograstim is a useful predictive tool with respect to the risk of post-transplant complications and prolonged myelosuppression, typically occurring after high-dose chemotherapy. The primary variables were: the rate of patients with documented infections the time to platelet engraftment

The study is evaluating whether risk-stratification by the means of a chromosomal aberration provides a tool to discriminate between standard and high risk. Risk-adapted therapy is based on allogeneic stem-cell transplantation for high-risk subjects instead of a second autograft in patients with deletion of chromosome 13 who have an HLA-identical stem cell donor available.

The purpose is to determine whether induction and consolidation treatment with Carfilzomib, Lenalidomide and Dexamethasone (CRd), within an intensive program, warrant further investigation in clinical trials.
