Erythropoietin Spinal Cord Compression Randomized Trial

Nerve Compression Syndromes

To determine whether erythropoietin, steroids and radiotherapy is safe and feasible to administer to patients with malignant spinal cord compression.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery in Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression

Spinal Cord CompressionNeoplasm Metastasis

To determine whether stereotactic radiosurgery of metastatic spinal cord compression is equivalent to decompressive surgery followed by external body radiation therapy to maintain ability to walk at 6 weeks.

Intrathecal Enzyme Replacement Therapy for Spinal Cord Compression in Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS)...

Mucopolysaccharidosis ILysosomal Storage Diseases1 more

The investigators are studying the use of enzyme replacement therapy into the spinal fluid for treatment of spinal cord compression in the Hurler-Scheie and Scheie forms of mucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I). Funding source -- FDA OOPD

Restoring Hand Function Utilizing Nerve Transfers in Persons With Cervical Spinal Cord Injuries...

Cervical Spinal Cord InjurySpinal Cord Injuries1 more

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of nerve transfer surgery for restoring hand function as a therapy for patients with cervical spinal cord injury.

Extension Study of Intrathecal Enzyme Replacement Therapy for MPS I

Spinal Cord CompressionMucopolysaccharidosis I3 more

This is a one-year extension study of the use of laronidase into the spinal fluid to treat spinal cord compression in mucopolysaccharidosis I. Mucopolysaccharidosis I is a rare genetic condition due to deficiency of the enzyme alpha-l-iduronidase. Spinal cord compression occurs in this condition due to accumulation of material called glycosaminoglycans (GAG). Laronidase is the manufactured form of the enzyme alpha-l-iduronidase that is deficient in mucopolysaccharidosis I patients. The aim of this study is to determine whether laronidase is safe and effective when given into the spinal fluid as a potential non-surgical treatment for spinal cord compression due to mucopolysaccharidosis I disease. Funding Source -- FDA OOPD

Radiotherapy of Motor Deficits From Metastatic Epidural Spinal Cord Compression

Metastatic Epidural Spinal Cord Compression

The primary aim of this randomized multi-center trial is to investigate the efficacy of the radiotherapy regimens 5 x 4 Gy and 10 x 3 Gy with respect to the effect on motor function in patients with metastatic epidural spinal cord compression.

Surgical Spinal Decompression of Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression, Minimal Access Versus Open...

Spinal Metastases

The investigators wish to evaluate the effect of minimal access spinal surgery compared to traditional open surgery spinal surgery in patients with metastatic spinal cord compression. Minimal access surgery has been shown to bee less damaging for the tissue compared to traditional open surgery and also cause fewer wound complications, the investigators expect the above could have impact in a vulnerable patient group like patients with metastatic spinal cord compression.

SuperDEX Trial (Comparison of Two Doses of Dexamethasone for Malignant Spinal Cord Compression Treated...

Spinal Cord Compression From Neoplasm Metastasis

The study aimed to pilot the viability of a full scale randomised comparison of 2 steroid doses in malignant spinal cord compression, to establish safety of high dose dexamethasone in this setting in Australia, to test web registration and randomisation and to compare different functional outcome measures.

Spinal Cord CompressionUnspecified Adult Solid Tumor1 more

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known which radiation therapy schedule is more effective in treating patients with malignant spinal cord compression. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying two different radiation therapy schedules to compare their side effects and how well they work in treating patients with malignant spinal cord compression.

Adaptive Staged Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Spinal Metastases...

MelanomaMetastatic Malignant Neoplasm in the Spine3 more

This pilot clinical trial studies adaptive staged stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) in treating patients with spinal metastases that cannot be removed by surgery. SBRT is a specialized radiation therapy that delivers a single, high dose of radiation directly to the tumor and may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue. Adaptive SBRT uses information gathered during treatment to inform, guide, and alter future radiation treatments. Staged SBRT uses multiple treatments separated by 2-3 weeks. Giving adaptive staged SBRT may work better in treating spinal metastases that cannot be removed by surgery.
