Determining How the Nervous System Processes Pain in Adults With Fibromyalgia

FibromyalgiaRheumatoid Arthritis

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a disabling chronic disorder characterized by widespread muscle pain, fatigue, and multiple tender points, specific places on the body that become painful with only slight pressure. Pain associated with FM cannot be explained medically, often leading to a delayed diagnosis and delayed treatment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how the nervous system, specifically the brain, processes pain in women with FM.

Fibromyalgia and Olive Oil

Fibromyalgia

We have recently reported a prothrombotic state in patients with fibromyalgia that may increase the risk of thrombosis-related cardiovascular disease in these patients. Several studies have shown the cardioprotective, antithrombotic and antiinflammatory properties of olive oil. The objective of the study is to investigate the effect of consumption of two types of olive oils with different antioxidant content on thrombosis-related parameters, nitric oxide, inflammation, lipid profile and cortisol as well as on health-related parameters in women with fibromyalgia.

Effect of Hypnosis Combined With Tdcs on Pain Perception and Cortical Excitability in Fibromyalgia...

Transcranial Direct Current StimulationHypnosis1 more

Fibromyalgia is a public health condition, which causes great functional disability. Conventional treatment modalities have been shown a very poor therapeutic response, in that most individuals end up becoming poly-medicated and refractory to treatment. Non-pharmacological techniques with promising effects on the syndrome symptoms include both hypnotic analgesia and the transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS). Giving the treatment limitations of this syndrome its important to better understand the pain processess in fibromyalgia and treatments effect. This project was developed in order to evaluate the synergistic effect of a hypnotic analgesia suggestion associated with tDCS over pain levels and cortical excitability in individuals with fibromyalgia over a nociceptive stimulation pattern.

Effect of PERMEAPROTECT on the Quality of Life of Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a medical disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain, and a heightened and painful response to pressure. Fibromyalgia symptoms are not restricted to pain, leading to the use of the alternative term fibromyalgia syndrome for the condition. Other symptoms include functional gastrointestinal pain and discomfort. The origin of these symptoms is not yet known, and a few hypotheses have been stated. One of the supposed mechanisms that may lead to gastrointestinal hypersensitivity is a chronic, low-grade, intestinal inflammation due to an increased intestinal permeability. In this study, we hypothesise that the food supplement PERMEAPROTECT (that contains, amongst other nutrients, glutamine and curcumin) contributes to reducing the intestinal permeability and low-grade inflammation, thus improving gastrointestinal quality of life.

Fibromyalgia Therapeutic Education in Thermal Cure

Fibromyalgia

The study evaluates the efficiency, in terms of quality of life improvement, of a patient's therapeutic education program (ETP), based on long term commitment in adapted physical activities carried out during a standardized thermal cure (CTS) for fibromyalgia among patients continuing regular drug treatment or not

Efficacy of a Psychoeducative Program for Improving Quality of Life in Fibromyalgic Patients [Study...

Fibromyalgia

This research project pretends to demonstrate that a psychoeducative program implemented in the context of PC can produce a significant increase in the quality of life of patients with FM, as well as a decrease in the use of sanitary and social services, compared to usual care.

Endogenous Opioid Systems and Symptom Change in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

This study is designed to study brain mechanisms associated with symptoms and severity of Fibromyalgia. This will be accomplished by relating results from PET scans to self-reported and objective measures of disease severity.
