Influence of Exercise Type, Pain Mechanisms, and Biopsychosocial Contributions to Pain Relief in...

Fibromyalgia

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence different types of exercise, pain mechanisms, and biopsychosocial contributions on how people with and without fibromyalgia report pain. Exercise will be performed with the arm at a submaximal intensity. Participants will undergo a variety of pain assessments, including clinical questionnaires and pain perception. This study will improve our understanding of how people with and without fibromyalgia respond to different resistance exercise types and whether physical activity and body composition has an influence on the response.

Trigger Point Injections for Post-Mastectomy Pain Syndrome

Post-mastectomy Pain SyndromeMyofascial Pain Syndrome3 more

Post-Mastectomy Pain Syndrome (PMPS) is a chronic pain that persists for more than three months after a surgical breast procedure. It has 11-70% incidence in patients that underwent a breast surgery. It consists of mixed pain, frequently associated with myofascial pain, an specific type of muscular pain. Trigger point injections (TPI) are classically used for the treatment of myofascial pain in other painful conditions. However, there are no controlled trials assessing the efficacy of TPI in the treatment of PMPS. The intervention objective is to assess the efficacy of TPI in patients with PMPS, when associated with a comprehensive rehabilitation program and pain management.

Telehealth Stretching Exercise Program for Women With Fibromyalgia During the Covid-19 Pandemic...

FibromyalgiaFibromyalgia1 more

This study is a randomized, single-blinded, parallel, superiority, controlled trial. The main objective is to verify the effects of a telehealth stretching exercise program on pain, depression, sleep parameters and functionality of women with fibromyalgia, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Participants will be women with primary fibromyalgia, seen at public and private health services, in the city of Pelotas (south of Brazil). Participants will be recruited through social networks, newspapers and support from the National Association of Fibromyalgia and Correlated Diseases (Anfibro). Eligible participants will be randomized, stratified by age (30 to 45; 46 to 60), and allocated to one of the two groups, experimental or control. The experimental group will receive a telehealth stretching exercise program twice a week (guided by a professional) and counseling guide to stretching exercises with explanatory video regarding the execution of the protocol proposed by the guide. The total duration of exercise program will be 40 minutes (will be 12 exercise, 3 sets of each stretching for 10 seconds, carried out individually by a video call application - WhatsApp). The control group will receive only counseling guide to stretching exercises with explanatory video regarding the execution of the protocol. Both interventions will last 12 weeks, with outcomes evaluations in three moments: baseline (week 0), midpoint (week 6) and after the intervention (week 13). The following outcomes will be evaluated: generalized index of pain, fatigue and severity of symptoms, depression, level of physical activity, functionality, quality of life and sleep. All outcomes will be evaluated by questionnaires self-completed, that will be answered on Google Docs by video call, with exception of functional test that will be applied by video call. The study's hypothesis consists of improving outcomes for both groups, but with superiority for the experimental group.

Examining the Effects of Activity Management in Women With Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Fibromyalgia

Purpose: To determine the effects of activity management training on pain, occupational performance, quality of life, depression, anxiety and occupational balance in women with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). In addition to, reducing pain, which is the main symptom of FMS, by regulating the activity-rest cycle, it is aimed to increase people's participation in daily life and improve their quality of life. Method: A randomized controlled trial. A total of 10 sessions of individual-internet-based activity management training are applied to women with FMS in the intervention group, 2 sessions a week for 5 weeks, 1st and 10th sessions are pre- and post-training evaluation. Assessments before and after training The Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR), Canadian Occupational Performance Measure(COPM), Pain-activity patterns scale (Pomp/APPS) ,Nottingham Health Profile,The hospital anxiety and depression scale,The Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OBQ) is applied.Although no intervention is applied to the control group, only preliminary and final evaluations are completed.

"REACT-FM" Real-World Evidence From Smartphone-Based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Fibromyalgia...

Fibromyalgia

The objective of this study is to assess the clinical impact of a digital therapy for the management of fibromyalgia. Study participants receive 12 weeks of Digital Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in addition to their standard care for fibromyalgia. The primary endpoint is the Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC) at week 12. This is a virtual, single-arm, pragmatic, non-significant risk study.

Effect of Milnacipran / Gabapentin in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Gabapentin and milnacipran (MLN) show strong evidence of reduced pain, increased sleep, and improvement in the quality of life in fibromyalgia (FM) patients. Most FM trials focus primarily on pain reduction with monotherapy. Polypharmacy is commonly used, but supportive evidence is limited. The gabapentin-MLN combined therapy may be more effective in female patients with FM than their monotherapy.

MDMA-assisted Therapy for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a debilitating chronic pain disorder. Based on prior research with MDMA, it can be hypothesized MDMA-assisted therapy in fibromyalgia patients may increase the range of positive emotions, interpersonal trust, and heighten the state of empathic rapport that can lead to an enhanced patient-clinician interaction and to initiate reattribution processes targeting dysfunctional thoughts towards pain. Therapeutic alliance, i.e. a positive patient-clinician relationship, is already acknowledged as an essential component for MDMA-assisted therapy. Despite its importance, the patient-clinician interaction and the neuroscience supporting patient/clinician therapeutic alliance has received almost no attention in MDMA research. The investigators will examine the potential therapeutic benefit of MDMA-assisted therapy for fibromyalgia. Additionally, this study will also target secondary objectives including the investigation of the clinical and physiological response (i.e. brain-to-brain concordance) supporting enhanced patient-clinician therapeutic alliance in fibromyalgia patients. The study includes two Experimental Sessions of therapy with MDMA combined with neuroimaging, along integrative therapy, baseline neuroimaging, and a 3 month follow up.
