Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation of Patients With Chronic Widespread Pain

Chronic Widespread PainFibromyalgia

The primary objective of the current study is to evaluate the outcome of an interdisciplinary multi-component rehabilitation programme customized to patients with chronic widespread pain (CWP) based on multidimensional diagnostic assessment including sub-grouping, and aiming to improve functional ability in everyday life. The hypothesis is that a patient-focused multi-disciplinary rehabilitation approach will improve both functional ability and quality of life for patients with CWP.

Dose Response Effects of Cervical Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT) on Pressure Sensitivity of Myofascial...

Trigger PointsMyofascial2 more

Specific Aim 1: To determine if the effect of cervical spinal manipulation on the pressure pain thresholds in a myofascial trigger point in the infraspinatus muscle can be enhanced and/or extended after a second cervical spine manipulation is given during a single subject visit. H1: There will be a statistically significant increase in pressure pain thresholds in the myofascial trigger point in the infraspinatus muscle after the second cervical spine manipulation, as compared to the first. Specific Aim 2: To determine if the effect of two cervical spinal manipulations on pressure pain thresholds in a myofascial trigger point in the infraspinatus muscle will be present at 48 hours follow-up. Data will be collected for descriptive purposes and hypothesis generation.

D-Ribose for Fatigue in Subjects With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

To evaluate the safety and to determine the efficacy of D-ribose for the amelioration of fatigue in subjects with fibromyalgia. This is a phase IIa, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center, multiple dose study of D-ribose versus placebo administered at doses of 5 g three times a day (TID) over a 12-week period to subjects who are experiencing fatigue associated with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

Study of Fibromyalgia Treated With Milnacipran

Fibromyalgia

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of the nerves and the small veins in the skin of people with fibromyalgia. This information will then be used to identify possible processes in the skin that may help explain why some people feel pain relief with the study drug (milnacipran) and others do not. The investigators expect to learn more about the pathophysiology of fibromyalgia and the way in which milnacipran acts on these patients. The investigators hypotheses are: The pathophysiologic basis of fibromyalgia in some patients may be due to a biochemical and/or morphological pathology among the sensory innervation. Fibromyalgia patients may have different sites of innervation. Milnacipran may have a therapeutic effect on some fibromyalgia patients. Abnormalities in fibromyalgia patients may predict the likelihood of a good response to milnacipran.

Efficacy of Dolasetron in Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

This study offers a new treatment, dolasetron or ANZEMET ®, which will be administered by intravenous way once a day during a 4 days Hospitalization. This study is double blind (neither you nor the physician will know if you are receiving active study drug or placebo). Randomisation at the beginning of the study will decide whether you receive active treatment or its placebo. This treatment will be renewed after one month, after 2 months and after 3 months. If the study staff determines that you are eligible and you decide to participate, there will be approximately 6 study visits in about 9 months. During these visits, you will undergo routine health exams and complete different kinds of questionnaires. Following this first period of 3 months, you agree to come back for consultation at month 4, month 6 and month 12 for monitoring and evaluating the effects of treatment.

Nutrition and Coping Education for Symptom and Weight Management for Fibromyalgia

FibromyalgiaObesity

Research has shown that weight problems are very common in fibromyalgia. Research also suggests that overweight and obesity may contribute to worsening of fibromyalgia symptoms and biochemical vulnerability associated with fibromyalgia. Effective weight management may be important in not only improving general health but also better management of fibromyalgia symptoms. Research has indicated that nutrition and coping education is important aspects of successful weight management. In this study, the investigators are evaluating the effect of nutrition and coping education on weight and symptom management of fibromyalgia among overweight and obese patients.

Occipital Nerve Stimulation in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

The aim of this study is to investigate whether greater occipital nerve stimulation is effective in the treatment of fibromyalgia related pain. The study uses sub sensory threshold stimulation and placebo stimulation in order to investigate whether sub-threshold stimulation is feasible in a placebo controlled study.

Intravenous Lidocaine for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

The effect of intravenous lidocaine infusion on manifestations of fibromyalgia manifestations were recorded before and 4 weeks after treatment. Pain intensity was rated on a numerical scale. The combination of 240 mg intravenous lidocaine (once a week) and 25 mg amitriptyline for 4 weeks did not modify pain intensity or manifestations in patients with fibromyalgia.

Lidocaine on Manifestations of Fibromyalgia

FibromyalgiaChronic Pain

Background and Objectives: Fibromyalgia is a pain syndrome characterized by numerous manifestations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the combination of intravenous lidocaine and amitriptyline on the manifestations of fibromyalgia. Methods: A prospective, randomized, double-blind, comparative study was conducted. All patient received 25 mg amitriptyline. Patients of group 1 (n = 15) received 125 mL 0.9% saline, and patients of group 2 (n = 15) received 240 mg lidocaine in 125 mL 0.9% saline once a week for 4 weeks. Manifestations were recorded before and 4 weeks after treatment. Pain intensity was rated on a verbal numerical scale.
