A Comparison of Tumescence in Breast Reduction Surgery

PainPostoperative1 more

The investigators' main hypothesis is that in breast reduction surgery, the use of tumescent solution containing both dilute lidocaine and epinephrine will lead to better control of postoperative pain, nausea, vomiting, shorter time through postoperative phases of care, quicker discharge from the hospital and lower numbers of hospital readmissions than the use of tumescent solution containing only dilute epinephrine.

Effects of Two Packing Type in Maxillofacial Surgery

Sore ThroatNausea and Vomiting1 more

Operations of oral maxillofacial surgery cause the blood escape into stomach and trachea. Therefore, throat packing is applied. Endotracheal tube cuff is not protective from aspiration. While packing is preventing blood leakage, it may cause postoperative pain due to the pressure. Packing placed between oropharynx and hypopharynx before surgery to prevent leakage to stomach and trachea. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of two packing types in throat pain.

Prophylactic Ondansetron in Post-op Cardiac Surgery Patients to Prevent Post-operative Nausea and...

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

To evaluate the effectiveness of a prophylactic dose of ondansetron in decreasing the incidence of post-operative nausea and vomiting in cardiac surgery patients after cessation of post-operative sedation. In patients who have undergone open heart surgery, a single prophylactic dose of ondansetron 4 mg IV given at the time of discontinuing propofol sedation will result in a 50% reduction of the rate of post-operative nausea and vomiting in the first 24 post-operative hours compared to placebo.

Gabapentin to Reduce Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

The intrathecal administration of morphine is gaining popularity. It is easy to do and can reduce the pain after surgery up to 24 hours. However, it causes postoperative nausea and vomiting more than other methods providing postoperative analgesia. Patients suffering from these side effects have to spend a longer period of time recovering in the hospital with high cost of medical treatment.

Post-operative Nausea and VomitingLaparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Bariatric surgery remains the most effective therapy for obesity. Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are commonly reported following bariatric surgery. The proposed study focuses on the most common bariatric procedure performed, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), and aims to assess the effect of a post-operative nausea and vomiting-specific intervention. The investigators hypothesize that the intervention group will experience a reduction of nausea-related prolonged hospital stay and significantly improve patient-reported quality of recovery from surgery and quality of life.

FracturesBone6 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate not only the occurrence of side effects, but the quality of the recovery (QoR-40 Questionnaire) of patients submitted to spinal anesthesia with administration of low doses (0.1 mg) of intrathecal morphine for the surgical treatment of fractures in one of the lower limbs and who will receive prophylactic ondansetron (4mg), dexamethasone (8mg) or placebo.

Penehyclidine for Prevention of Nausea and Vomiting After Bimaxillary Surgery

PenehyclidinePostoperative Nausea and Vomiting1 more

Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a common complication after surgery. Patients undergoing orthognathic surgery are reported to have a high rate of PONV, especially those undergoing bimaxillary surgery. Activation of cholinergic system plays an important role in the development of PONV. Penehyclidine is an muscarinic antagonists which selectively block M1 and M3 receptors and is commonly used to decrease oral secretion. The investigators hypothesize that continuously administrated penehyclidine during perioperative period can reduce the incidence of PONV in patients undergoing bimaxillary surgery.

Aprepitant for Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

Gynecological surgery is associated with a high incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. NK1 receptor antagonists such as aprepitant appear to be highly effective for treating acute and delayed emesis, and yet understanding of the efficacy of different doses of aprepitant is limited. We performed a prospective, randomized, double-blinded placebo-controlled study of 123 female adults scheduled for laparoscopic hysterectomy who received 80 mg aprepitant, 125 mg aprepitant, or a placebo.
