A Pharmacokinetic Study of Nutri-PEITC Jelly in Head and Neck Cancer Survivors

Head and Neck Cancer

This research aims to evaluate the absorption and elimination profile of a bioactive compound PEITC in the matrix of Nutri-jelly - a novel edible nutritious gel. Thus, the investigators conducted a pharmacokinetic study in 12 head and neck cancer survivors. After consumed a serving of Nutri-jelly containing 20 mg PEITC, plasma levels of PEITC at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24 hours were specifically measured by ammonia derivatization and analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Non-compartmental pharmacokinetic analysis was performed.

Individualization of Nutritive Sensory Support Of Radiation Therapy

Radiotherapy; ComplicationsHead and Neck Cancer

Nutritional deficiency and subsequent weight loss in patients with head and neck cancer is a common problem and a negative predictor of treatment outcomes and mortality, as well as quality of life. Nutritional support for patients is a prerequisite for the successful management of cancer patients. Sensory changes can be side effects of chemotherapy or ionizing radiation, which damages sensory receptors in the area of radiation, disrupts the function of the salivary glands, leading to hyposalivation and a decrease in taste. Individual choice of nutrition based on sensory sensations can significantly improve the quality of life of patients and ensure timely correction of their eating behavior.

The HEART Study (Healthy Eating and Recovery Together)

Head and Neck CancerSurvivorship1 more

Head and neck cancer survivors and their primary caregivers (N=25 dyads) will be enrolled to pilot test a nutrition support system with a care planning clinic visit and a caregiver mobile App. Participants will be asked to complete baseline and 6-week follow-up surveys. The clinic session (offered in person or remotely) will include a needs assessment and a tailored care plan with information, educational materials and referrals about participants' symptoms, behaviors, social concerns and caregiving tasks. After the visit, the program will provide an App for caregivers with follow-up resources and mobile support for one month.

Dose Ranging Study to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of SCV-07 for the Delay to Onset of Severe...

Oral MucositisHead and Neck Cancer

Oral Mucositis (OM) is a painful and debilitating side effect of many of the drug or radiation regiments used to treat cancer. This study examines the investigational drug SCV-07 and it's possible application in treating Oral Mucositis. Studies have shown that SCV-07 can possibly increase a broad immune system response, thus lowering the painful side effects experienced when treated for head and neck cancer. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of SCV-07 and it's ability to delay the onset of Oral Mucositis for patients receiving chemoradiation for head and neck cancer.
