Persistant Organics Pollutants in Breast Cancer.

Breast CancerPersistant Organic Pollutants1 more

Persistant Organics Pollutants (POP) accumulate in the adipose tissue (AT) and could modulate tumor progression as part of the microenvironment. The investigators tested the hypothesis that POPs exposure may be associated with breast cancer metastasis analyzing the concentrations of 46 POPs in both adipose tissue and serum samples from breast tumor patients (benign, malignant with and without lymph node metastasis)

Design of Chatbot Persona for Breast Cancer Screening Outreach Among Black Women

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer screening disparities among Black women persist despite health system recognition and outreach. However, current evidence on how to tailor and optimize implementation strategies for breast cancer screening outreach is limited. The proposed study is part of a larger project to design a chatbot for breast cancer screening outreach to Black women and will focus on optimizing the chatbot persona. Using the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) framework, the investigators will conduct a randomized factorial experiment to assess the individual components of chatbot persona for breast cancer screening and identify which components have the greatest effect on trust and engagement for Black women. This information will guide the design of an optimized chatbot intervention that achieves the primary outcomes.

Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) on Motor and Sensory Function

CancerChemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy5 more

As cancer survival rates have been increased due to technological developments and early detection strategies, there has been been a growing need to assess the effect of long-term complications and adverse effects upon patients' functionality and quality of life. Chemotherapy, which is accepted to be the body of systemic adjuvant therapy is attributed to long-term survival, yet some side effects such as sarcopenia, loss of muscle strength and functional capacity, fatigue, and sensory disturbances due to the neurotoxic effects have been well known. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a condition that is characterized by main loss of cutaneous sensation especially in the distal part of the extremities. CIPN affects approximately 30-40% of patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Loss of sensation in distal sides of upper and lower extremities may cause not only deterioration of fine hand skills but also loss of balance and thereby one's mobility and independence are detrimentally affected. Thus, this study is aimed to assess CIPN in patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy in a longitudinal design by assessing the cutaneous function of the sensory nerves and related effect of motor function.

Comorbidities And Reducing inEquitieS

CancerBreast3 more

Black cancer patients tend to have worse outcomes than White cancer patients. Some of this disparity may be due to comorbidities. The purpose of this study is to improve management of co-morbidities among cancer patients in order to improve cancer outcomes and improve health equity. Comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension can complicate cancer treatment or can make it difficult to reach optimal health after treatment. This study will offer additional support and tools to manage cancer patient's health needs. First, the study will use a mobile health application, managed by a company called Welldoc, to monitor patient progress in real time and to provide ongoing guidance. Second, the study will connect patients with a Community Health Worker who will speak with them weekly to discuss self-care information, including medical scheduling or appointment needs, and assist with daily self-monitoring of blood pressure and/or blood glucose monitoring. Lastly, an oncology nurse will monitor reported health and triage any medical needs and whether additional medical care is needed.
