LOL: It's All Improv After Cancer! The Impact of Improvisational Comedy on Well-Being Among Patients...

DistressBreast Neoplasms1 more

Managing distress and improving well-being is critically important for optimal survivorship care. Treatment of distress leads to better adherence to treatment, better communication, fewer calls and visits to the oncologist's office, and avoidance of development of severe anxiety or depression. Based on national guidelines, distress is typically managed with pharmacologic options (i.e. benzodiazepines), support groups, individual counseling, or chaplaincy services. To our knowledge, the role of a structured improvisational comedy (improv) program in reducing distress and improving well-being has never been evaluated in the oncology setting.

RNA and Heat Shock Protein Biomarkers in Radiation-induced Fibrosis in Breast Cancer

Breast CarcinomaFibrosis

The purpose of this study is to seeking a molecular signature of pathological radiation induced fibrosis based on the response of skin fibroblasts after irradiation, comparing two groups of patients distinguished by their individual radiosensitivity. The signature will integrate recent insights in terms of alternative splicing of mRNAs and level of expression of non-coding RNAs, particularly long non-coding RNAs, snRNAs, snoRNAs and microRNAs. In each group each expression patterns of candidate HSP proteins potentially predictive of pathological radiation induced fibrosis (HSP27, HSP70, αβ crystalline) in the serum and on cell culture will be characterized.

Study of Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) Expression in Participants With Early/Metastatic...

Breast Cancer

This is a retrospective, multicenter study, consisting of chart review of Saudi Arabian participants diagnosed with breast cancer between 2007 and 2013 and with available human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) testing. Data on survival will be collected through 2015.

Effect of Interval Cancer and Screening Process on Survival and Disease-free Period in Breast Cancer...

Breast Cancer

This is a multicenter retrospective cohort of women participating in breast cancer screening programs in Spain between 2000 and 2009, with a cancer diagnosed during the screening or between the screening interval (interval cancer), specifically true interval cancers and false negatives. The investigators obtained woman-related information (including breast density), tumor-related information (including tumor phenotype), and follow-up information (including relapses, second neoplasms and vital status at the end of follow up (June 2014)). The objective is to evaluate the survival and disease-free period of women participating in screening programs for breast cancer with a cancer diagnosed during the screening or an interval cancer, specifically true interval cancers and false negatives. This study is part of a broader project (CAMISS study), which also includes one prospective cohort (CAMISS Prospective cohort - Identifier in ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02439554).

Evaluating the Impact of Baduanjin Exercise Intervention on Quality of Life in Breast Cancer Survivors...

Breast Cancer Survivors Receiving Aromatase Inhibitor Therapy

A 12-week randomized controlled trail was conducted in 72 Chinese breast cancer survivors who had received aromatase inhibitors treatment for more than 6 months. All participants were assigned to either 12 weeks of Baduanjin classes which involved to two 90-minute sessions per week or a wait-list control. Participants completed fitness assessments, measurements of lipopolysaccharide-stimulated production of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1β(IL-1β) ,C-reactive protein (CRP) ,BMI,BMD and questionnaires to measure QoL, fatigue, sleep quality, Aromatase Inhibitor-Induced Arthralgia, symptoms of climacteric syndrome were completed at baseline and 3 months.

An Observational Study Evaluating the Productivity and Health-Related Quality of Life of People...

Breast Neoplasms

The purpose of this study is to compare productivity (in terms of work or daily activity) and generic and disease-specific health-related quality of life of participants with HER2 positive early breast cancer currently receiving adjuvant treatment (with chemotherapy and/or targeted HER2 therapy), with participants who have completed adjuvant parenteral therapy, and participants with HER2 positive metastatic breast cancer.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Whole Body, Including Diffusion, in the Medical Evaluation of...

Metastatic Breastcancer

Whole-body MRI including diffusion is a booming technique. Numerous studies have demonstrated its interest in metastatic cancers. Breast cancers, especially hormone-sensitive ones, are very osteophilic and bones are the most frequent metastatic site. Apart from morphological criteria (lesion size and RECIST criteria), MRI provides quantitative functional criteria (diffusion and ADC values). According to a recent study, whole body MRI is as good as PET/CT and more effective than bone scintigraphy for the diagnosis of bone metastases for cancers of breast and prostate with a high metastatic risk. Therefore, it seems appropriate to study the performance of whole body MRI in the pre-therapeutic assessment of breast cancer with a high risk for metastasis and the monitoring of metastatic breast cancer.

Computerized Cognitive Retraining in Improving Cognitive Function in Breast Cancer Survivors

Cancer SurvivorStage 0 Breast Cancer7 more

This randomized clinical trial studies computerized cognitive retraining in improving cognitive function in breast cancer survivors. Cancer-related cognitive deficits, such as thinking and memory issues, are common among breast cancer survivors. The severity of these cognitive deficits is associated with a significant negative impact on daily function and quality of life. A computerized cognitive retraining method may help researchers find ways to improve cognitive function and quality of life in breast cancer survivors.

Eribulin Treatment as 1st-line or 2nd-line Chemotherapy for HER2-negative Hormone-resistant Inoperable...

Breast Cancer

This is a observational study in a real-world setting, not requiring determining a dosage regimen, dose reduction criteria, rest period criteria and withdrawal criteria. The purpose of the study is to investigate the efficacy of eribulin as the first or second line chemotherapy to prolong overall survival and to explore factors affecting the survival in patients with HER2-negative hormone-resistant inoperable or recurrent metastatic breast cancer who scheduled to receive the first or second line chemotherapy in clinical practice in Japan. The total duration of the study will be a maximum of 5 years, consisting of 2-year enrollment period and 3-year observational period; the duration of patient participation will be 3 years. All patients will receive adequate treatment for breast cancer which selected by the primary physician after enrollment using the Japanese Breast Cancer Society Clinical Practice Guideline of Breast Cancer and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology. Investigators at the investigational sites will enter patient data into an electronic data capture (EDC) system up to the third chemotherapy in the study. The end of the study is defined as the time the last patient completes observational period. Patients will primarily be assessed by overall survival (OS) of the first line chemotherapy.
