Follow-Up Care With or Without CEA Assessments in Patients Who Have Undergone Surgery for Stage...

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Diagnostic procedures, such as ultrasound, x-ray, colonoscopy, CT scan, and CEA assessment, may help monitor a patient's response to surgery. It is not yet known which follow-up regimen is more effective in patients who have undergone surgery for colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is comparing two types of follow-up care with or without CEA assessments to see how well they work in patients who have undergone surgery for stage II or stage III colorectal cancer.

Study of Capecitabine and Cetuximab as First-Line Therapy in Patients With Metastatic Wild Type...

Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

The combination of capecitabine and cetuximab as first-line therapy will result in improved progression free survival compared to single agent capecitabine in patients with KRAS wild type colorectal cancer. Patients who are not able or willing to take Oxaliplatin/Irinotecan combination therapy are eligible for this study.

Studying Biomarkers in Tumor Tissue and Blood Samples From Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy and...

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Studying samples of tumor tissue and blood from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors learn more about changes that occur in DNA and identify biomarkers related to cancer. It may also help doctors predict how patients respond to treatment. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying biomarkers in tumor tissue and blood samples from patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy for stage II or stage III rectal cancer that can be removed by surgery.

Macrogol 3350-based Oral Osmotic Laxative in Preventing Cancer in Patients at Risk of Colorectal...

Adenomatous PolypColorectal Carcinoma

This randomized phase II trial studies how well macrogol 3350-based oral osmotic laxative (polyethylene glycol 3350) works in preventing cancer in patients at risk of colorectal cancer. Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs to keep cancer from forming. The use of macrogol 3350-based oral osmotic laxative may stop cancer from growing in patients who are at risk of colorectal cancer.

Early Detection of Polyps and Colon Cancer by Fluorescence Imaging - a Dose-finding Study

Colorectal Cancer

Patients referred for colon inspection (colonoscopy) due to suspicion of colon polyps/cancer will receive local administration of hexaminolevulinate (HAL) prior to colon inspection. Blue light illumination will induce red fluorescence of polyps and tumours, improving detection of the polyps and tumors. Different HAL doses will be tested to find the optimal image conditions. Tolerability measurements will be performed to ensure patient safety.
