Surgery With or Without Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Stage I Non-small Cell Lung Cancer...

Adenocarcinoma of the LungAdenosquamous Cell Lung Cancer4 more

Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of surgery with or without combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have stage I non-small cell lung cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether surgery is more effective with or without chemotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer.

Marimastat in Treating Patients With Stage III Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Marimastat may stop the growth of non-small cell lung cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. PURPOSE: Randomized double-blinded phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of marimastat in treating patients who have residual stage III non-small cell lung cancer.

HER-2/Neu Vaccine Plus GM-CSF in Treating Patients With Stage III or Stage IV Breast, Ovarian, or...

Breast CancerLung Cancer1 more

RATIONALE: Vaccines made from the HER2/neu antigen may make the body build an immune response and kill tumor cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as GM-CSF increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of HER-2/neu vaccine plus GM-CSF in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV breast cancer, stage III or stage IV ovarian cancer, or stage III or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

Paclitaxel With or Without Carboplatin in Treating Patients With Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of paclitaxel with or without carboplatin in treating patients who have recurrent, stage IIIB, or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

Radiofrequency Ablation During Surgery in Treating Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Radiofrequency ablation uses high-frequency electric current to kill tumor cells. Combining radiofrequency ablation with surgery may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining radiofrequency ablation with surgery in treating patients who have stage I or stage II non-small cell lung cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy Plus Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Combining chemotherapy and radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of radiation therapy when given with combination chemotherapy and to see how well they work in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be surgically removed.

S0002 - A Program to Quit Smoking With or Without Bupropion in Treating Patients With Stage I or...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: A program that includes bupropion may be more effective in helping early-stage lung cancer patients to quit smoking. It is not yet known if a program to quit smoking is more effective with or without bupropion. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of a program to quit smoking with or without bupropion in treating patients who have undergone surgery for stage I or stage II non-small cell lung cancer.

OSI-774 (Tarceva) in Treating Patients With Stage III or Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

CarcinomaNon-small-cell Lung

The purpose of this study is to determine if OSI-774 will improve overall survival of patients with incurable stage IIIB/IV non-small cell lung cancer compared to standard of care. OSI-774 is a new type of drug under evaluation called an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). OSI-774 is an investigational drug that has not yet been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

TLK286 in Treating Patients With Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of TLK286 in treating patients who have advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Cisplatin, Interferon Alfa, Surgery, and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Malignant Pleural...

Malignant Mesothelioma

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Interferon alfa may interfere with the growth of cancer cells. Combining chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and interferon alfa may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of cisplatin plus interferon alfa followed by surgery and interferon alfa plus radiation therapy in treating patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma.
