RATIONALE: Motivational counseling may help prevent pregnant women from smoking again after pregnancy. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying three different types of counseling to see how well they work in preventing smoking relapse after pregnancy in pregnant women who quit smoking during pregnancy.

RATIONALE: Studying samples of blood in the laboratory from patients receiving pemetrexed disodium may help doctors learn more about the effects of pemetrexed disodium on cells. It may also help doctors understand how well patients respond to treatment. PURPOSE: This laboratory study is looking at blood samples from patients with stage III or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer enrolled in clinical trial MCCRC-RC0524 to determine the effect of pemetrexed disodium on cells.

The specific aims of this translational, interdisciplinary, multi-center, international research study with 300 Lung cancer patients are to: Aim 1 Explore how the patients experience the transfer between different locations and between different levels of care at the same location and how they experienced coming home. Aim 2 Explore lung cancer patients' symptoms, symptom clusters, and changes in symptoms and symptom clusters over time. Aim 3 Explore interaction between lung cancers patients' symptoms, symptom clusters, health related quality of life and social support.

This study is being conducted by the University of Rochester Cancer Center to determine the levels of cytokines in the blood, and to determine if blood levels of these cytokines are related to the side effects of radiation therapy combined with other treatments.

RATIONALE: Evaluating specific proteins in the blood may be an effective and noninvasive procedure to help doctors determine if a patient has early non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying proteomic profiling to see how well it works in diagnosing non-small cell lung cancer in patients who are undergoing resection for suspicious (abnormal) stage I lung lesions.

RATIONALE: Diagnostic procedures and treatment-planning systems may affect outcome in patients suspected of having lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized diagnostic trial to compare the effectiveness of two types of diagnostic and treatment-planning systems in patients who are suspected of having lung cancer.

Postoperative pneumonia is one of the most common complications after lung cancer surgery and associated with a morbidity and mortality. Postoperative lymphopenia has been recently identified as one of risk factors for postoperative pneumonia. According to recent studies in polytrauma, cancer or septic shock, T cells dysfunction may be related to high expression of inhibitory receptors on lymphocytes.

This prospective, observational study is to assess the long-term effectiveness and safety of Atezolizumab in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer in clinical practice.

The Engagement of Patients with Advanced Cancer is an intervention that utilizes well-trained lay health coaches to engage patients and their families in goals of care and shared decision-making after a diagnosis of advanced cancer. Although lay health workers have never been tested in this role, we hypothesize that lay health workers can feasibly improve goals of care documentation and help to reduce unwanted healthcare utilization at the end of life for Veterans diagnosed with new advanced stages of cancer and those diagnosed with recurrent disease.

This active surveillance aims to collect the safety data of 100 NSCLC patients treated with nintedanib per the approved Indian label within 2 years from the date of commercial availability of the drug in India (23rd January 2017). The objective is to look at the safety of nintedanib in the real world setting.
