Glutathione in Preventing Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Paclitaxel and Carboplatin in Patients...
Chemotherapeutic Agent ToxicityNeuropathy14 moreThis randomized phase III trial is studying glutathione to see how well it works in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, and/or primary peritoneal cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemoprotective drugs, such as glutathione, may help prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin. It is not yet known whether glutathione is more effective than a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy.
Sexual Therapy and Rehabilitation After Treatment for Ovarian Cancer (START-OC): A Pilot Intervention...
Ovarian CancerThis research study is evaluating an educational intervention for women who have experienced changes in sexual function after treatment for ovarian cancer.
Body Warming in Improving Blood Flow and Oxygen Delivery to Tumors in Patients With Cancer
Adult Liver CarcinomaBreast Carcinoma8 moreThis randomized pilot clinical trial studies body warming in improving blood flow and oxygen delivery to tumors in patients with cancer. Heating tumor cells to several degrees above normal body temperature may kill tumor cells.
Cognitive-Behavioral Intervention for Worry, Uncertainty, and Insomnia for Cancer Survivors
Anxiety DisorderWorry22 moreThis randomized clinical trial studies a cognitive-behavioral intervention to treat worry, uncertainty, and insomnia in cancer survivors. Counseling may reduce anxiety and insomnia as well as improve the well-being and quality of life of cancer survivors. This study also explores the neuro-immunologic correlates of anxiety and insomnia.
Safety and Efficacy of Folatescan (Technetium TC 99M EC20) in Patients With Suspected Ovarian Carcinoma...
Ovarian CarcinomaRecurrent Endometrial CarcinomaThe folate receptor is overexpressed in many types of cancer, including ovarian and endometrial cancer, and the level of folate receptor expression increases with the stage of the disease. Technetium Tc 99m EC20 (99mTc-EC20; FolateScan), a folate-targeted diagnostic radiopharmaceutical, is designed to bind to the folate receptor. Thus, FolateScan may provide an effective method to determine folate receptor-positive (FR+) target tumors, thereby assisting in the identification of those patients who may benefit from folate-targeted therapy.
Safety Study of Farletuzumab, Carboplatin and Pegylated Liposomal Doxorubicin (PLD) to Treat Platinum-sensitive...
Epithelial Ovarian CancerThe purpose of this study is to evaluate whether combination therapy with farletuzumab (MORAb-003), carboplatin, and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) is safe.
Telemedicine vs. Face-to-Face Cancer Genetic Counseling
Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer SyndromeLynch SyndromeCancer genetic counseling (CGC) has been found to have "substantial" benefits for individuals with breast cancer and their family members; it has been deemed by multiple organizations as "standard of care" for women with breast cancer and their relatives. Unfortunately, there is a disparity in access to CGC, especially among women who live in rural and underserved areas. In North Carolina, only two cancer genetic counselors practice in rural clinics - each only for a few days per month. Therefore, in an effort to make CGC more widely available in a timely manner, we propose to test provision of counseling through telemedicine (TM), in which a patient and health care provider communicate with each other using videoconferencing. In 4 rural oncology clinics, we will implement low-cost TM and compare satisfaction and cost-effectiveness between groups of women designated to have their CGC session by TM or FTF. We'll use a validated measure to assess satisfaction by a phone survey one week after the CGC appointment; cost-effectiveness will be measured at project's end by calculating length of wait time for appointment and costs of equipment, labor, and mileage. Study hypothesis: TM is as satisfactory as FTF counseling and is a more cost-effective way to provide this beneficial service.
The Effect of Logotherapy on Mental Health in Gynecological Cancer Patients
Cancer of OvaryEndometrium Cancer1 moreGynecological cancers negatively affect women's sexuality, fertility, body image, and self-perception, resulting in deterioration in their psychological health. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of logotherapy on traumatic stress symptoms, post-traumatic growth, finding meaning in life, and spiritual well-being in gynecological cancer patients. No research has yet been found that examines logotherapy's symptoms of post-traumatic stress, post-traumatic growth, the meaning of life, and the spiritual well-being of gynecological cancer patients. The study was conducted in a single-blind randomized controlled trial with 68 women with gynecological cancer. The study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov NCT… While logotherapy interviews including seven sessions were made in the experimental group, only routine nursing care was given to the control group. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form (PIF), the Traumatic Stress Symptom Scale (TSSS), the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ), and the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS). To analyze the data, descriptive statistics and parametric-nonparametric tests were used in the analysis of the data.
Oral Iron vs. Placebo in Newly Diagnosed Gynecologic Oncology Patients Who Are Surgical Candidates....
Ovarian CancerCervical Cancer2 moreThe prevalence of anemia in gynecologic oncology new patients has been seen in previous studies to be as high as 35-59%. this population includes women with several types of gynecologic malignancies. Therefore, it is assumed that the origin of the anemia can be due to anemia of chronic disease and iron deficiency anemia. No previous studies have looked at the efficacy of oral iron supplementation with concurrent Vitamin C in women with newly diagnosed gynecologic malignancies. Hypothesis: In newly diagnosed gynecologic oncology patients who are surgical candidates does treatment with 3-6 weeks of oral ferrous fumarate 300 mg once a day improve the mean change in hemoglobin levels, from baseline to pre-operative, in comparison to placebo.
