Evaluation of Hypnosis in Virtual Reality on the Anxiety of Patients With Metastatic Prostate Cancer...

Metastatic Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the first cancer in men. The treatment of metastatic prostate cancer with chemotherapy is based on the intravenous administration of docetaxel chemotherapy. Symptoms of anticipatory nausea, linked to anxiety caused by the treatment, may occur. Hypnosis is already used to treat the anxiety of people with cancer and can help treat the symtoms of nausea and vomiting of women with breast cancer. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of medical hypnosis in virtual reality on the anxiety of patients with metastatic prostate cancer receiving Docetaxel chemotherapy treatment in comparison with a control group.

Implementation of a Multimodal Prehabilitation Program in Robotic Oncological Surgery

Prostate CancerGynecologic Cancer

Current literature on prehabilitation is broad and heterogenous. Ploussard et al initiated a multimodal one-day prehabilitation program in patients before robotic radical prostatectomy involving urology nurses, anaesthetic nurses, oncology nurse specialists, anesthesiologists, dieticians, physiotherapists etc, and observed significant improvement in terms of reduction in length of stay, blood loss, and operative time, and an increase in the proportion of ambulant surgery. Santa Mina et al observed that patients following a home-based moderate-intensity exercise prehabilitation program prior to radical prostatectomy were more fit i.e have a greater score on the 6 minutes' walk test, four weeks postoperatively compared to a control group. Regrettably, this study couldn't demonstrate a difference in length of stay or complication rate. To date, evidence for efficacy of prehabilitation in gynaecological cancer patients is limited. Several reviews and a meta-analysis indicate that the level of evidence suggesting that prehabilitation may improve postoperative outcomes is low. Moreover, there is a wide variability in applied preoperative prehabilitation programs i.e, with a uni- or multimodal approach, home-based or supervised, differences in intensity and a variety of outcomes. Therefore, there is a need for randomized controlled trials with low risk of bias and clearly defined outcome parameters to clarify the potential benefit of prehabilitation for patients Hence, the primary goal of this randomized pilot study is to determine the feasibility of the implementation of a multimodal prehabilitation program in patients undergoing robotic oncologic urological or gynaecological surgery in a Belgian tertiary center in terms of protocol adherence and recruitment rate.

Opioid-Free Pain Control Regimen Following Robotic Radical Prostatectomy

Pain ManagementOpioid Use1 more

The objective of this study is to conduct a randomized clinical trial to evaluate an opioid versus an opioid-free pathway of perioperative use of ketamine, ketorolac, and IV acetaminophen followed by the postoperative use of ketorolac, and oral acetaminophen for pain associated with robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy. Escalation to use of opioid treatment for the opioid-free constituents will be available if needed.

TOward a comPrehensive Supportive Care Intervention for Older Men With Metastatic Prostate Cancer...

Metastatic Prostate Cancer

TOPCOP3 is a pilot factorial RCT of geriatric assessment and management, remote symptom monitoring, both interventions or neither, accompanied by an embedded process evaluation. This design is widely used to guide the evaluation of complex interventions and provides important data to aid design of larger RCTs. The trial itself falls within pilot trial goals including obtaining variance estimates for outcomes, assessment of recruitment potential, and understanding implementation issues vital to designing a larger trial. The investigators have clear feasibility objectives and an analytic plan as well as criteria to determine success and strong support from cancer advocacy and policy groups.

The Effects of Castration on the Pharmacokinetics of Zolpidem After Single Dose Administration In...

Prostatic Neoplasms

Background: Insomnia is associated with difficulty sleeping. The drug zolpidem is widely prescribed for insomnia. Women have reported worse effects from the drug than men. Women have higher amounts of zolpidem in their body that may persist after waking. Drug exposure may also depend on male hormones that change during prostate cancer therapy. Researchers want to see if these findings can provide a more-accurate dose to healthy women and men with prostate cancer. Objective: To study amounts of zolpidem in men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer before they are castrated and after, and to compare these results to healthy women s. Eligibility: Men ages 18 and older who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer who are planning to receive androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) Healthy women age 18 and older Design: Participants will be screened with: Blood tests Physical exam Electrocardiogram (EKG) heart test Male participants will confirm their prostate cancer. This can be done with a tumor sample tissue from a previous surgery or a report from a doctor. Female participants may have a pregnancy test. Participants will be admitted to the clinic in the evening and stay overnight. They will: Take a 5 mg zolpidem tablet on an empty stomach around 11 p.m. Have blood drawn multiple times Have physical exams and EKGs Answer questions about their symptoms and medicines they are taking Male participants will have ADT as part of their standard cancer treatment. After that, the testosterone in their blood will be measured. They will repeat the overnight clinic stay. Participants will get a follow-up phone call after each stay.

Online Dietary and Resistance Training to Improve Physical Function in Older Cancer Survivors, E-PROOF...

Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage II Breast Cancer AJCC v87 more

This phase I trial tests the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of online dietary and resistance training to improve physical function in older (greater than or equal to 65-years old) cancer survivors. Declines in adequate protein and calorie intake results in faster loss of muscle mass and physical functioning in older adults. A novel approach to improving physical function in older cancer survivors (OCS) is to utilize online, tailored education and counseling from registered dietitians and exercise scientists, to improve dietary intake (protein intake, diet quality) and participation in resistance exercise. The purpose of this study is to help researchers learn whether an online dietary and resistance training intervention improves diet, exercise, physical function, and health outcomes in OCS.
