Radiation Therapy in Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer in Complete Remission
Lung CancerRATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and prevent the spread of cancer to the brain. It is not yet known if standard-dose radiation therapy is more effective than high-dose radiation therapy in preventing the spread of limited-stage small cell lung cancer cells to the brain. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is comparing two different regimens of radiation therapy to see how well they work in treating patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer in complete remission.

Trastuzumab in Treating Patients With Stage IIIB or Stage IV Non-small Cell Lung Cancer That Overexpresses...
Recurrent Non-small Cell Lung CancerStage IIIB Non-small Cell Lung Cancer1 morePhase II trial to study the effectiveness of trastuzumab in treating patients who have stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer that overexpresses HER2. Monoclonal antibodies can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells

Paclitaxel and Irinotecan in Treating Patients With Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer
Lung CancerRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving paclitaxel together with irinotecan works in treating patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Biological Therapy in Treating Patients With Metastatic Cancer
Breast CancerColorectal Cancer10 moreRATIONALE: Biological therapies use different ways to stimulate the immune system and stop cancer cells from growing. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of biological therapy in treating patients who have metastatic cancer that has not responded to previous treatment.

Combination Chemotherapy and Computer-Planned Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Unresectable...
Lung CancerRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Computer systems that allow doctors to create a 3-dimensional picture of the tumor to plan treatment may result in more effective radiation therapy. It is not yet known which chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy regimen is more effective in treating non-small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to compare the effectiveness of different combination chemotherapy regimens and 3-dimensional radiation therapy in treating patients who have unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer.

Celecoxib and Docetaxel in Treating Patients With Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Lung CancerRATIONALE: Celecoxib may slow the growth of cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining chemotherapy with celecoxib may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining celecoxib and docetaxel in treating patients who have advanced non-small cell lung cancer that has been previously treated with platinum-based chemotherapy.

Combination Chemotherapy, Surgery, and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Non-Small Cell...
Lung CancerRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Giving combination chemotherapy with radiation therapy before and after surgery may shrink the tumor so it can be removed during surgery and may kill any remaining tumor cells following surgery. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining paclitaxel and carboplatin with radiation therapy and surgery in treating patients who have newly diagnosed locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy and Imatinib Mesylate in Treating Patients With Extensive-Stage Small Cell...
Lung CancerRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Imatinib mesylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for their growth. Combining more than one chemotherapy drug with imatinib mesylate may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combining cisplatin, irinotecan, and imatinib mesylate in treating patients who have extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.

Survival in a Randomized Phase III Trial in Patients With Limited Disease (LD) Small Cell Lung Cancer...
CarcinomaSmall Cell LungThis trial is designed to test the impact of adjuvant BEC2 (2.5 mg)/BCG vaccination on survival in patients with LD Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). Patients will be stratified by institution, KPS (60 - 70% vs 80 - 100%), and response to first line combined modality therapy (CR vs PR) that consisted of at least a 2 drug regimen (4 - 6 cycles) and a chest radiotherapy regimen. Patients will be randomized to one of two treatment arms: standard arm (Observational cohort) or best supportive care, or the treatment arm (5 intradermal vaccinations of BEC2 (2.5 mg) + BCG given on day 1 of weeks 0, 2, 4, 6, and 10.

Motexafin Gadolinium and Doxorubicin in Treating Patients With Advanced Cancer
Breast CancerChronic Myeloproliferative Disorders11 moreRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Motexafin gadolinium may increase the effectiveness of doxorubicin by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combining motexafin gadolinium with doxorubicin in treating patients who have recurrent or metastatic cancer.
