ZD4054 (Zibotentan) Phase II Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Study

Non Small Cell Lung CancerLung Cancer

The aim of this study is to collect initial efficacy and safety data on the use of a new treatment ZD4054 (Zibotentan) when used in combination with pemetrexed (a standard chemotherapy agent) for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer compared to treatment with pemetrexed alone

Imatinib Mesylate and Paclitaxel in Treating Older Patients With Stage IIIB or Stage IV Non-Small...

Malignant Pleural EffusionRecurrent Non-small Cell Lung Cancer2 more

This phase II trial is studying how well giving imatinib mesylate together with paclitaxel works in treating older patients with stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer. Imatinib mesylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving imatinib mesylate together with paclitaxel may kill more tumor cells

Cancer Vaccine Study for Unresectable Stage III Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (START)

Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the cancer vaccine tecemotide (L-BLP25) in addition to best supportive care is effective in prolonging the lives of subjects with unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer, compared to best supportive care alone. A local ancillary (sub) study in European centers will evaluate the immune response in peripheral blood after tecemotide (L-BLP25) or placebo vaccination.

Chemotherapy With Pemetrexed in Combination With Platinum for Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer...

Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer

This is a two-arm, parallel, open-label, Phase 2 multicenter study of pemetrexed as first line combination therapy with either cisplatin or carboplatin in the palliative setting of stage IIIb and IV non-small cell lung cancer patients. Approximately 130 patients will be included in about 15 centers in Germany and randomized to one of the above treatment regimens in a 1:1 ratio. Chemotherapy will be administered over a maximum of six cycles with a standard length of 21 days. Primary objective will be the Progression Free Survival Time of patients as assessed in both treatment arms.

Dexamethasone and Supportive Care With or Without Whole-Brain Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients...

Lung CancerMetastatic Cancer

RATIONALE: Steroid therapy, such as dexamethasone, may reduce swelling, pain, and other symptoms of inflammation and may be effective in treating some of the problems caused by cancer and cancer treatment. Supportive care improves the quality of life of patients with a serious or life-threatening disease, and prevents or treats symptoms of cancer, side effects of treatment, and other problems related to cancer or its treatment. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known whether dexamethasone given together with supportive care is more effective with or without whole-brain radiation therapy in treating patients with brain metastases. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying dexamethasone and supportive care to see how well it works with or without whole-brain radiation therapy in improving the quality of life of patients with non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to the brain and cannot be removed by surgery.

Gefitinib in Treating Patients With Previously Untreated Stage IIIB or Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Gefitinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well gefitinib works in treating patients with previously untreated stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

S9810: Gemcitabine Plus Cisplatin in Treating Patients With Malignant Mesothelioma of the Pleura...

Malignant Mesothelioma

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of gemcitabine plus cisplatin in treating patients with malignant mesothelioma of the pleura that cannot be removed by surgery.

Bladder CancerBreast Cancer4 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combining irinotecan and gemcitabine in treating patients who have unresectable or metastatic solid tumors.

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining paclitaxel and oxaliplatin in treating patients who have recurrent or advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Chemotherapy Plus Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Stage III Non-small Cell Lung Cancer...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Combining chemotherapy with radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy plus radiation therapy in treating patients who have stage III non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be surgically removed.
