Ranibizumab for Myopic Neovascularization

Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical results of anti-VEGF intra-vitreal injections (IVT) in CNV secondary to pathologic myopia (PM-CNV).

Contrast-enhanced Ultrasound (CE-US) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Evaluating Plaque Neovascularisation...

Carotid Artery StenosisAtherosclerosis

The first goal of this study is to investigate whether CE-US is able to accurately identify and quantify neovascularisation in carotid artery plaques. Since this is one of the first studies systematically evaluating the ability of ultrasound in combination with air bubbles to evaluate neovascularisation in carotid artery plaques, the examination will be performed twice with an interval of 1/2 hour on the day before surgery, thus studying the reliability of the method. The second goal of this study is to investigate whether MRI at 3.0 T with a custom-designed 3T carotid coil, using a recently developed pulse sequence, is able to accurately identify and quantify neovascularisation. And the third goal of this study is to make an intermodality comparison of CE-US and MRI regarding their ability to identify and quantify plaque neovascularisation.

Functional Improvement of Progenitor Cells and Endothelial Function by Vildagliptin in Diabetes...

SDF-1 is an Important Cytokine for Neovascularization. Cleavage of SDF-1 is Reduced by DPPIV Inhibitors

SDF-1, an important cytokine for neovascularisation is cleaved by (dipeptidyl peptidase IV) DPPIV. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of the dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitor vildagliptin (Galvus®) on endothelial function as well as number and functional activity of progenitor cells in patients with documented diabetes mellitus.

Fluorescence Angiography in the Assessment of DIEP Flap Perfusion

Breast CancerVascularization1 more

It is a single-center, prospective, randomized and controlled study focused in microsurgical autologous breast reconstruction. It involves applying indocyanine green (ICG) angiography for the study of the vascularization of DIEP flaps. The aim of the study is to determine whether there are differences in complications and aesthetic results when ICG is used to discard the poorly vascularized areas of the flap. The study includes adult women undergoing unilateral DIEP flap breast reconstruction. The calculated sample size is 60 patients. There are two groups. In group 1, the investigators use the usual clinical criteria to discard the poorly vascularized areas of the flap. In group 2, the investigators use the ICG to shape the flap.

Triple Combination Therapy of Choroidal Neovascularization in AMD, a Cost Effect and Efficient Therapeutic...

Exudative Macular Degeneration

We propose to undertake a retrospective review of approximately 200 patients with a diagnosis of exudative macular degeneration treated with triple combination therapy (Bevacizumab, Dexamethasone and Photo-dynamic therapy) during the years of 2006 to 2010 at The Retina Center and compare those results with an additional group of approximately 200 patients also treated with triple combination therapy and 20 mg of daily oral zeaxanthin.

A Study to Learn More About How Drug Aflibercept Works in Canadian Patients With Reduced Vision...

Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization

Being short sighted means that vision is blurry when looking at things far away. People with a condition called "pathologic myopia" are short sighted due to problems in the back layer of their eyes, also known as the retina. Some people with pathologic myopia can develop a serious condition called myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV). In people with mCNV, new blood vessels grow into the retina. These blood vessels can break, leaking blood or fluid into the retina. This can cause blurry vision or a loss of vision. In this study, researchers will find out more about how well drug aflibercept works and how safe it is in Canadian patients with mCNV. The researchers in this study will review information from the patients' eye doctor visits. The patients in this study will include Canadian men and women who started receiving aflibercept between May 2017 and August 2019. These patients were at least 18 years old and had not received treatment for their mCNV before. The researchers will look at the results of vision tests to find out how well the patients could read from a distance after they received aflibercept for 6 months. They will compare the results of these tests to before the patients received treatment. They will also learn more about how safe it is to have aflibercept injection into the eye.

Angiogenesis and Fibrosis in Aortic Stenosis

Aortic StenosisFibrosis2 more

Angiogenesis and fibrosis lie at the heart of a number of fundamental processes responsible for cardiovascular disease. In this proposal, the investigators intend to build upon a highly successful programme of studies exploring the cardiovascular applications of positron emission tomography. Specifically, the investigators will explore the potential role of a novel radiotracer, 18F-fluciclatide, which is a highly selective ligand for the αvβ3 and αvβ5 integrin receptors that are up regulated during angiogenesis, and tissue fibrosis and remodelling. This tracer has been successfully used to assess angiogenesis in metastatic tumours and its uptake is suppressed by anti-angiogenic therapies. The investigators here propose to describe the pattern of uptake of 18F-fluciclatide in cardiovascular diseases, specifically aortic stenosis and aortic atherosclerosis. The investigators will correlate 18F-fluciclatide uptake with in vivo measures of angiogenesis and fibrosis as well as ex vivo histological characterisation of tissue. If successful, this novel radiotracer could provide an extremely important non-invasive method of assessing in vivo angiogenesis, plaque vulnerability, and tissue remodelling as well as potential applications in developing stem cell therapies.

Analysis of the Variation of the Retinal Vascularization After a Prolonged Effort

Retinal Vascular DisorderSport Injury

The cardiovascular parameters of prolonged physical exercice have been studied, but very little data is available about the retinal vascularization. The eye allows in vivo visualization of micro-vascularisation and is considered as an excellent marker of general vascular condition. The marathon is an intense and prolonged exercise (running 42.195 km) in aerobic environment. Thus the investigators propose to study the vascular parameters of the retina, before and after this physical exercise. This will allow : 1) to collect information on the physiology of the retinal vascularization to prolonged effort, 2) to detect any retinal damage (haemorrhages, edema, occlusion ...), not known to date. The results may highlight vascular effects related to retinal hypoxia (venous tortuosity, haemorrhage, venous occlusion, hypoxic edema). Furthermore the results may urge prevention in this sport more and more democratized. the investigators hypothesized that prolonged physical exercice causes a change in retinal vascularization.
