Morphological and Metabolic Changes of Dorsal Root Ganglion and Sympathetic Ganglion in Patients...
PainNeuropathy;PeripheralObject: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is pain that persists for 1-3 months after herpes zoster onset. It is the most common complication of herpes zoster and occurs in 15-40% of patients with herpes zoster. PHN has been suggested to be related with the lesion of doral root ganglion (DRG). However, the studies are almost limited to autopsies and animals , and the mechanism of PHN is still unclear. This study was conducted to investigate morphological and metabolic changes of DRG and sympathetic ganglion in patients with postherpetic neuralgia on MRI. Method: 30 patients diagnosed as PHN were recruited. The volume and fractional anisotropy of DRG of lesion dermatomes were measured under MRI, and compared with contralateral and adjacent DRG. The volume and fractional anisotropy of sympathetic ganglion of lesion dermatomes were also measured under MRI, and compared with contralateral and adjacent sympathetic ganglion. Then, the association between clinical phenotypes and DRG changes were analyzed.
Trigeminal Neuralgia Electrophysiology
Trigeminal NeuralgiaThe study intervention is to perform standard somatosensory evoked responses limited to the face during rhizotomy procedures of the gasserian ganglion (trigeminal ganglion) for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. The evoked responses will be measured at two locations before and after the clinical rhizotomy including: the standard contralateral scalp (EEG) and at the gasserian ganglion through an FDA-approved recording electrode.
Prevalence of Pain in Hospitalized Cirrhotic Patients
CirrhosisHepatic Fibrosis6 moreAccording to the WHO, pain is an "unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, linked to existing or potential tissue damage, or described in terms suggestive of such damage". It is a legal obligation to evaluate and take care of it (law of 03/04/2022). However, there are still areas where this is not addressed, particularly in cirrhotic patients (Piano V et al. 2023). The global prevalence of cirrhosis increased by 74.53% between 1990 and 2017 (Liu YB et al, 2022, INSERM France file and Zhai M et al. 2021). In France, the prevalence of cirrhosis is estimated to be 200,000 patients (Cohorte Constances 2017; Serfaty 2019). The causes are varied: toxic (alcohol), viral (hepatitis B, C, HIV), genetic (hemochromatosis, primary biliary cirrhosis) but also iatrogenic or linked to a metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The first symptoms of cirrhosis are fatigue, loss of appetite and weight, nausea and vomiting, discomfort and abdominal pain. More serious symptoms may appear such as depression, confusion, sleep disturbances, edema of the lower limbs, ascites, severe pruritus or jaundice. All of these symptoms can be the cause of the pain. However, to date, there are no studies in France on the epidemiology of pain in patients with cirrhosis (Piano V et al. 2023, Klinge M, et al, 2018). To evaluate the prevalence of pain in cirrhotic patients hospitalized at the Center Hospitalier de la Dracénie in Draguignan. Patients hospitalized at the Dracénie CH with a diagnosis of cirrhosis in its patients will be identified in the various departments by a referring doctor who will have to contact Dr PIANO. The latter, as investigating doctor, will then be able to select the patients meeting the inclusion criteria of the protocol and the informants of the existence of the research. He will explain the study to them in detail, give them sufficient time for reflection before obtaining their oral agreement and giving them the information-no-opposition letter. The research will require a single consultation lasting between 15 and 45 minutes. During the visit, the patient will be asked whether or not they are experiencing pain.
Exploring the Genetics of Neuropathic Pain
Neuropathic PainGenetic Predisposition1 moreIn the present study the investigators will search for new genetic variants relevant for the development of neuropathic pain.
Incidence of Intravascular (IV) Injection During Trigeminal Nerve Blocks
Trigeminal NeuralgiaFacial Pain2 moreThe purpose of this study is to investigate the incidence of intravascular injection during trigeminal nerve blocks.
Epidural Spinal Cord Stimulation for Hypertension in Patients With Neuropathic Pain
Chronic PainHypertension1 moreThe purpose of the ESCAPE Study is to determine the extent to which epidural spinal cord stimulation (SCS) reduces arterial blood pressure (BP) in patients which chronic low back pain and hypertension. We also aim to determine the extent to which higher baseline BP (i.e., hypertension) predicts reductions in pain following SCS implant. This is an observational study of patients undergoing an implantation of a SCS device.
Untreated Sleep Apnea as an Aggravating Factor for Other Secondary Medical Conditions After Spinal...
Sleep ApneaSpinal Cord Injuries4 moreThis cross-sectional prospective study will assess the potential association of more severe sleep apnea after spinal cord injury with more intense neuropathic pain, more severe spasticity, and more significant cardiovascular abnormalities including cardiac arrhythmias and blood pressure fluctuations. In addition, the participants' experience when undergoing home-based sleep screening test or hospital-unattended sleep screening test will be assessed in a semi-structured interview.
Observational Study on the Treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia by Radiosurgery
Trigeminal NeuralgiaThis study aims to evaluate the outcome of patient treated by radiosurgery on LINAC with high dose rate for classical trigeminal neuralgia
The Relationship Between Neuropathic Complaints and Central Sensitization in Fibromyalgia
Central SensitisationFibromyalgia1 moreFibromyalgia (FM) is the prototype of a group of diseases known as central sensitivity syndromes, whose relationship with pain sensitization is well defined. Central sensitization (CS) is also one of the mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain, which is a common complaint in FM patients, is likely to be one of the clinical manifestations of central sensitization. Therefore, in this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between CS and neuropathic pain.
Effects of Cannabidiol (CBD) on Resting-state Electroencephalography (EEG) and Neuropathic Pain...
SCI - Spinal Cord InjuryNeuropathic PainThe main purposes of this study are to (1) measure the effect of CBD on pain symptoms, pain intensity, pain unpleasantness, and skin sensitivity to hot and cold temperature; and (2) measure the effect of CBD on brain electrical activity with electroencephalography (EEG).
