Biobank For MS And Other Demyelinating Diseases

Multiple SclerosisTransverse Myelitis3 more

To establish a large, longitudinal collection of high quality samples and data from subjects with MS, selected other demyelinating diseases (Transverse Myelitis (TM), Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) or Devic's, Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), and Optic Neuritis (ON)), and related and unrelated unaffected controls. Samples and data will be available as a shared resource to scientists researching the causes, sub-types, and biomarkers of MS and related demyelinating diseases.

TLR-9 Antagonism in Steroid Resistant Optic Neuritis

Optic Neuritis

Although idiopathic steroid resistant optic neuritis is very uncommon, there is no established treatment protocol for such patients. Toll like receptors (TLRs) especially TLR-9 has been shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of optic neuritis. This small case series aims to determine whether immunomodulators directed specifically at TLR-9(i.e. TLR-9 antagonism)play any role in improving the visual function in such patients.

Ultrasound-guided Serratus Block and the Emergence of Post-thoracotomy Pain Syndrome

Thoracic Neuritis

The aim of this prospective, single blinded, comparative pilot study is to evaluate U/S guided serratus anterior plane catheter block (SAPB) versus patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) on the emergence of post - thoracotomy pain syndrome (PTPS). The investigator's assumed hypothesis is that; SAPB is an effective thoracic analgesic technique that may reduce the development of PTPS.

Induction Therapy With a Single High Dose Bolus of Intravenous Methotrexate With Leucovorin Rescue,...

Demyelinating DisordersMultiple Sclerosis3 more

The participant will receive weekly intramuscular treatment with AVONEX® (interferon beta 1-a) and a one-time high dose intravenous methotrexate with Leucovorin rescue, along with the standard solumedrol treatment before beginning AVONEX® treatment.

A Prospective Longitudinal Study in Adults With Multifocal Motor Neuropathy

Multifocal Motor Neuropathy

This prospective longitudinal study will follow participants with Multifocal Motor Neuropathy over time and collect data on their clinical outcomes, quality of life, and use of health care resources. Participants will follow their regular visit schedule with their treating physician, except for an optional second visit occurring 7 to 14 days after the start of the study to collect biomarker data. No IMP will be administered.

Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage IA Breast Cancer AJCC v826 more

The goal of this study is to obtain preliminary evidence of the effect of 8 acupuncture treatments over 10 weeks in breast and GI cancer patients who are currently receiving or recently completed active neurotoxic chemotherapy and have clinically documented grade 1 or 2 neuropathy.

Pharmacokinetics, Safety and Tolerability of Single Doses of BIIB033 (Opicinumab) Produced by 2...

Multiple SclerosisAcute Optic Neuritis

The primary objective of the study is to characterize the pharmacokinetics (PK) of BIIB033-B and to compare the PK profile with that of BIIB033-A in healthy volunteers. Secondary objectives are: To assess the safety and tolerability of BIIB033-A and BIIB033-B; To assess the secondary PK parameters of BIIB033-A and BIIB033-B; To assess the immunogenicity of BIIB033-A and BIIB033-B.

Effect of Transorbital Electrical STIMulation of Optic Nerve on Remyelination After an Acute Optic...

Multiple SclerosisOptic Neuritis

In light of experimental models showing that neuronal electrical activity is crucial for the remyelination process, we hypothesize that maintenance of electrical axonal activity in the early stages of optic neuritis may promote myelin repair, limiting thereby axonal degeneration. In humans, electrical stimulation of the optic nerve has been tested mainly in ischemic neuropathy and retinitis pigmentosa, which are both associated with severe axonal/retinal pathology and poor visual prognosis. In contrast, the inflammation of the optic nerve in optic neuritis is generally transient, with less severe axonal damage at the acute phase, which would allow for better efficacy of electrical stimulation as a strategy to promote remyelination and neuroprotection. In light of experimental models showing that neuronal electrical activity is crucial for the remyelination process, we hypothesize that maintenance of electrical axonal activity in the early stages of optic neuritis may promote myelin repair, limiting thereby axonal degeneration.
