Erector Spinae Plane Block in Post-herpetic Neuralgia

Postherpetic Neuralgia

This randomized clinical study will be carried out on 72 patients admitted to the pain clinic in Tanta University Hospitals with post-herpetic neuralgia. Cases presenting to the Pain Clinic with acute pain due to postherpetic neuralgia in thoracic and/or lumbar dermatomes with numerical rating scale (NRS) of 6 or more and they will be randomly divided, using the closed envelop method, into three equal groups. Group A (24 patients): Patients will be subjected to the routine medical treatment of post herpetic neuralgia as controls (Pregabalin, acyclovir, and paracetamol) and sham erector spinae plane block Group B (24 patients): Patients will be subjected to erector spinae block by bupivacaine (2 - 2.5 mg/kg, with a maximum of 175 mg/dose) together with medical treatment. Group C (24 patients): Patients that will subjected to erector spinae block by bupivacaine (2 - 2.5 mg/kg, with a maximum of 175 mg/dose with the addition of MgSO4 (equivalent to 100 mg)) together with medical treatment. Primary outcome will be the efficacy of pain relief Secondary outcome will be the frequency of pain and the consumption of analgesics.

The Role of Intravenous (IV) Lidocaine in the Management of Chronic Neuropathic Pain of Peripheral...

Neuropathic Pain

Pain as a result of nerve injury (neuropathic pain) is a particularly severe form of chronic pain. Common examples of neuropathic pain are pain due to diabetes and shingles. There is good evidence that an intravenous infusion of lidocaine (local anesthetic) is useful for the management of neuropathic pain in the short term - up to six hours.

Therapeutic Interventions For Pain Induced By Vincristine Treatment For Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic...

Acute Lymphoblastic LeukemiaNeuropathy1 more

Neuropathic pain / peripheral neuropathy (NP/PN) is a known painful complication of vincristine (VCR) therapy; evidence supporting the best treatment plan for pediatric patients is limited. Gabapentin is frequently used for VCR-related NP/PN, with variable dosing and scheduling regimens, and with varying measures of success. The hypothesis of the study is that gabapentin will reduce the severity of NP/PN in patients receiving vincristine during treatment for ALL on the Total XVI protocol (or for those being treated "as per TOTXVI protocol"), as measured by two outcome measures: the daily dose of morphine used as needed for pain in addition to either gabapentin or placebo, as randomized, and the pain scores assessed daily.

A Study to Investigate the Pharmacodynamic Effects of CT327 on Intra-dermal Nerve Growth Factor...

Neuropathic Pain

The primary objective of this study is to compare the effect of CT327 to placebo against experimental induced superficial, deep and hyperalgesic pain. The secondary objectives are to elucidate the mechanisms of CT327 using experimental pain models.

Oral Ketamine Administration in Patients With Peripheral Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic Pain

Nowadays, available drugs cannot always produce pain relief in patients with neuropathic pain disease. It is believed that drugs acting as antagonists of the N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) receptor may have been efficient in the treatment of neuropathic pain disorders. Ketamine is the only NMDA receptor antagonist commercially available in France. Ketamine is usually administered intravenously for surgical anesthesia. The intravenous administration of ketamine will be difficult to manage in the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain. Some trials using oral ketamine for the treatment of neuropathic pain were conducted but results were heterogeneous. This may be explained by the different range of ketamine doses tested. The aim of this clinical trial is to identify a safe and an efficient dose of orally administrated ketamine for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain. The clinical trial will be conducted in Toulouse Hospital, France. This study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The study will be conducted using 4 parallel groups (three doses of ketamine versus placebo).

Effects of Bodily Illusion and tDCS on SCI-related Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic Pain

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of a combination of two procedures: (1) Bodily Illusion (BI) and (2) Transcranial direct electrical stimulation (tDCS) on neuropathic pain.

Spinal Cord Stimulation for Restless Legs Syndrome

Restless Legs SyndromeNeuropathic Pain

The overall goal of this proposed study is to evaluate the underlying mechanisms of neural control of blood flow in the lower extremities in humans with restless leg syndrome (RLS). At least 15% of the general public suffers from RLS and many more may go undiagnosed. This unfortunate disorder leads primarily to a disturbing sensation within the patient's lower extremities that requires movement for relief (1, 2). The central hypothesis of our study is that physiological changes in lower limb blood flow as a result of thoracolumbar epidural Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) lead to the relief of RLS.

MR Guided Focused Ultrasound for Treatment of Neuropathic Pain

Severe Neuropathic Pain Due to Radiculopathy or Radicular InjurySpinal Cord Injuries1 more

Neuropathic pain is often a result of direct diseases of peripheral or central nervous system with an estimated prevalence of 8% of adults and this pain is associated with significant consequences because of longer symptom duration and severity than many of the other pain syndromes. Functional brain imaging has revealed that many regions of the brain are engaged by painful events, but specific areas such as the thalamus have been markedly implicated. The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and safety of MRI-guided focused ultrasound treatment using the ExAblate Transcranial System in patients suffering from Neuropathic pain. This treatment modality offers non-invasive precise treatment potential for these patients.

New Formulation and Food Effect Study of BIIB074

Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)Other Neuropathic Pain

The primary objectives of the study are to assess the relative bioavailability of the BIIB074 direct compression formulation (DCF) to the BIIB074 roller compaction formulation (RCF) and to determine the effect of a high-fat meal on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of the BIIB074 DCF. The secondary objective of the study is to assess the safety and tolerability of BIIB074 administered as the DCF following single oral dose administration in healthy participants.
