The primary objective of this study is to test the feasibility and efficacy of Internet-delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for adolescents (13 - 17 years) with sleep problems (ICBT-I). All participants will receive ICBT-I for six weeks. The investigators will also evaluate the effect of the intervention on comorbid psychiatric symptoms and function.

Anxiety Sensitivity Treatment for Heroin Users is a development project targeting mild and above levels of anxiety sensitivity that will involve the testing of a specialized protocol for improving treatment retention and outcomes for heroin dependent individuals in a residential substance use treatment. ASTH-HR will integrate established treatment modules such as Healthy Relationships, along with interoceptive exposure, affect management, and psycho-education exercises developed for anxiety prevention and treatment programs with standard substance use treatment.

The purpose of this project is to implement culturally adapted Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based interventions in general health settings that are delivered to reduce Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) symptoms, increase levels of functioning, and improve health-related quality of life.

This is a 16-week research study in which participants suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) will receive Sertraline (a medication FDA approved for the treatment of SAD) for the first 8 weeks. If a participant remains symptomatic, he/she will enter the second phase of the study in which he/she continues taking Sertraline but also randomly receives either Seroquel or placebo in conjunction with Sertraline for additional 8 weeks. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of adjunctive Seroquel in treating SAD.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether mental health treatment disengagement may be mitigated by reducing barriers to self-management and enhancing self-management skills.

This study seeks to develop and test a novel, mechanistic treatment for mitigating cognitive impairment in older adults with anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are common, severe, and disabling in older adults. One particularly impairing aspect of late-life anxiety disorders is cognitive impairment: impairments in memory and executive function cause disability, impede treatment response to psychotherapy, may lead to dementia, and are not corrected by standard anti-anxiety treatments. This pilot study will test the glucocorticoid antagonist, mifepristone, for cognitive impairment in late-life anxiety disorders. Mifepristone blocks the effects of elevated cortisol levels on glucocorticoid receptors in the brain; it has been studied preliminarily in various neuropsychiatric disorders, such as psychotic depression and bipolar disorder, with well-documented safety and tolerability.

During the 1-year formative phase of a study to develop an integrated treatment for quitting smoking for anxiety-vulnerable HIV+ smokers. During this first phase of the study, start-up activities will include piloting the integrated treatment on a small group of individuals (N = up to 12), obtaining expert consultant and participant feedback, and development of the final treatment manual and procedures. The goal during this phase will be to establish feasibility of treatment delivery, participant acceptability, and potential for a treatment effect before conducting a pilot randomized trial of the treatment. During the two-year pilot RCT phase of the above study, we directly develop and test a novel psychosocial/behavioral and pharmacological smoking cessation intervention for HIV+ smokers with interfering psychological distress.
