A single blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study in twenty four healthy male subjects. Subjects will be divided into two cohorts with alternate panel design. The study is investigating the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of single oral escalating doses of GSK586529.

Children with burns often require repeated reconstructive surgeries. These children tend to develop high levels of anxiety before coming to the operating room. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of a school-based cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) program in reducing anxiety disorder symptoms in at-risk public school children. To determine whether parent education and involvement improves outcome in anxious children treated with CBT. To determine the ability of school personnel in a) recognizing classroom behaviors as anxiety disordered after targeting training of observable child behaviors e.g., avoidance, over-worry, etc.), and b) delivering a cognitive behavior intervention and To evaluate a new measure of teacher-rated anxiety disorder symptoms in children. Hypothesis: A CBT oriented intervention as delivered by school personnel will be superior to an attention control procedure in reducing anxiety symptoms in at-risk children. Children who have parental involvement will post stronger and more enduring treatment gains.

This pilot study engaged pregnant couples experiencing elevated symptoms of maternal anxiety or depression with an existing online psychoeducation intervention, the Online Mothers and Babies Course (eMB). The study had three primary aims to assess overall feasibility; 1) explore the feasibility of delivering eMB to couples by assessing recruitment, retainment, and adherence, 2) examine eMB's preliminary efficacy for reducing PMAD symptoms, and 3) describe participants' satisfaction and perceptions about eMB acceptability. The intervention group received the 8-week eMB and the control group received an informational resources sheet.

Non-pharmacological methods that may reduce anxiety include; pre-treatment training, aromatherapy, acupuncture, hypnosis. Eliminating or reducing anxiety as much as possible will help increase the comfort of both the patient and the endoscopist in these invasive procedures. Efforts to develop and disseminate evidence based practices (EBPs) for youth anxiety have made great strides. Still, up to 82.2% of youth who need mental health treatment for anxiety never access care or drop out prematurely; commonly cited barriers to treatment are shortage of care, transportation limitations, financial burden, and gatekeeping behaviors by caretakers. As such, there is great need for accessible, scalable interventions that can ameliorate the global burden of youth anxiety, including those that help prevent the onset of anxiety in high-risk children. Single session interventions (SSIs), which have prevented and reduced child anxiety across numerous trials to date, may offer a promising solution, given their potential disseminability and cost-effectiveness. The proposed randomized trial will evaluate the effects of a novel, web-based, self-guided SSI designed to systematically reduce parent accommodation: a parenting behavior identified as a strong risk factor for anxiety in offspring. Study aims will be three-fold: (1) to examine the SSI's direct effects on parental accommodation, relative to an information-only control; (2) to assess the SSI's immediate effects on parents' perceived ability to help their children manage distressing situations; and (3) to evaluate the SSI's feasibility and acceptability. We will recruit parents reporting elevated anxiety levels, as children of anxious parents are at particular risk for developing anxiety symptoms themselves. Results may suggest a promising approach to preventing anxiety in at-risk children.

Anxiety is a natural reaction that occurs in such situations, it manifests itself with worry and fear. Increased anxiety before surgery is associated with pathophysiological responses such as hypertension and dysrhythmia. Intense preoperative anxiety can increase morbidity, the need for anesthetic medication, and postoperative analgesia. For this reason, many questionnaire studies have been conducted to measure the degree of preoperative anxiety and to reveal its causes. The Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) test has two parts that measure anxiety and the need for information about anesthesia and surgery. The APAIS-A (anxiety) part is the test that measures strain and shows whether the patient has anxiety about anesthesia or surgery. The APAIS-I (information) part estimates whether the person needs information. In the literature, the effects of general and spinal anesthesia techniques on preoperative anxiety levels have been compared for some specific surgical methods such as c-sections and perianal region surgeries. However, no study has been reported between peripheral nerve block and general anesthesia techniques. This study aimed to determine the effects of regional and general anesthesia methods on preoperative anxiety levels and the factors affecting these scores in patients who will undergo upper extremity surgery.
