Preoperative Anxiety Level, Premedications and General Anaesthetic Proceedings
AnxietyPremedication1 moreAlthough it seems obvious that the high level of preoperative anxiety may affect intraoperative anaesthetic requirements and recovery adversely, there are several contradictory studies about this subject. Furthermore, the effects of anxiolytic premedication are actually disputed: sedative premedication is widely administered but little clinical evidence supports its use. We want to evaluate the effects of pre-procedure anxiety for propofol needs in patients receiving general anaesthetic procedure. We also want to know if premedication is useful according to the preoperative anxiety level, in order to determine if a sub-group of patients benefit from it.
Identification of Multi-modal Bio-markers for Early Diagnosis and Treatment Prediction in Schizophrenia...
SchizophreniaMajor Depressive Disorder1 moreThis study aims to screen and validate multi-scale bio-markers for early diagnosis and medication monitoring for early schizophrenia, including the genetic, neurobiochemistry, neuroimaging and eletrophysiological measures. Based on the validated bio-markers, the present study further tries to build several prediction models for early differential diagnosis of schizophrenia from healthy controls and other mental diseases (such as the major depression and anxiety disorders), biological sub-typing and diagnosis of the schizophrenia sub-types, and early prediction of the medication effects.
The Impact of Anxiety or Depression on the Sedative Concentration of Propofol
AnxietyDepression3 more120 consecutive female patients, 18-65 years old, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I to II, scheduled for hysteroscopic surgery under propofol-based intravenous anesthesia will be recruited in this cohort study. The day before surgery, participants will be assessed the state of preoperative anxiety and depression. On the day of surgery, propofol will be administered by target controlled infusion (TCI) pump. During induction of anesthesia, the level of sedation will be evaluated. The induction dose of propofol, target effect-site concentration(Cet), plasma concentration(Cp) and effect-site concentration (Ce) of propofol will be recorded.
Effect of Preoperative Music on Anxiety
Music on Postoperative AnxietyIn this study, we are planning to evaluate whether listening to the music of the patient's choice preoperatively contributes to postoperative anxiety.
Reducing Competitive Anxiety Cheerleader Psychology
Sports InjuryStress Reaction1 moreCheer leading is a rapidly growing international sport known for its acrobatic skills and dangerous stunts. The sport presents ample risk for physical trauma, and it is common for athletes to miss extensive time from cheer leading due to injury. The goal of this study is to the see whether the investigators can reduce injury risk among cheer leading athletes by teaching them stress-coping skills to help them relax and reduce their sport-related stress. There exists a link between high levels of stress and increased rates of injury among athletes. When individuals become stressed during athletic events such as competitions or strenuous training, symptoms including muscle tension and narrowed attention often accompany the stress response, increasing injury risk and reducing performance quality. In this study, half of Western University's coed cheer leading team will participate in a six-session stress management intervention to teach them relevant psychological stress-coping skills. Such skills include relaxation breathing techniques, visualization exercises, stoppage of negative thoughts, and development of self-efficacy statements. The other half of the team will receive a placebo "sport nutrition" program. The sessions of both the control program and the stress-management intervention will be administered over the most intensive period of the cheer leading season, from September to November of 2019. The investigators predict that the intervention group athletes will report less cheer leading time missed due to injury, report less sport-related stress, and make fewer errors at their cheer leading championship than their teammates in the placebo group. This is the first study to administer a psychological injury-prevention intervention to cheerleaders.
An Effectiveness Study of the Cool Kids Programme
Anxiety DisorderThe aim of the present study is to investigate the effectiveness of the Cool Kids programme after implementation in two outpatient psychiatric clinics for children in Southern Jutland, Denmark. The Cool Kids programme is a manualised cognitive behavioural treatment programme for children aged 6 to 12 years with anxiety disorders. Previous efficacy studies have found that 60-80% of all children who complete the program show marked improvement. However, only one previous effectiveness study has ever been conducted. It is therefore relevant to examine whether the previously mentioned effect is maintained when the programme is implemented in a healthcare setting rather than a research setting.
Ketamine Infusion Therapy for the Treatment of PTSD in Paramedics
Stress DisordersPost-Traumatic1 moreThis is an observational study to assess the change in several psychological screening tools before and after a series of six ketamine infusions in paramedics who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder as a result of working in emergency medical services.
Lavender Oil Inhalation Help to Overcome Dental Anxiety Among Children
Dental AnxietyAnxiety Disorder1 moreThe purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia) on anxiety, pain and vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate and saturation) among children planned to undergone surgical intervention.
Effect of Preoperative Anxiety on Fetus in Pregnant Women
Preoperative AnxietyCytokinesIn the preoperative period, 60-80% of the patients had anxiety symptoms. This rate increases even more during pregnancy. There are a number of studies examining the role of anxiety symptoms on fetal outcome, but the mechanisms that explain the effects of maternal stress are not fully understood. The most extensively studied cytokines in neuropsychiatric disorders are TNF-α and IL-6 due to their effects on the central nervous system. TNF-α levels have been reported to be elevated in anxiety disorders. In our study, the investigators aimed to determine the relationship between preoperative anxiety levels and fetal cord blood TNF-α and IL-6 cytokine levels in pregnant women.
Experiential Training for Community Therapists
AnxietyThe primary goal of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of employing an experiential training approach that targets community mental health therapists' attitudes toward and use of exposure therapy. In addition to assessing attitudes and use of exposure therapy, the study will evaluate the feasibility of recruitment, randomization, retention, and assessment processes, as well as the acceptability of the experiential training relative to training-as-usual. To assess these outcomes, community therapists will be randomized to experiential training or training-as-usual. A subset of therapists from each arm will also complete qualitative interviews to further assess acceptability of the training approaches. The training-as-usual condition will include a traditional one-day workshop that focuses on principles of exposure and incorporates active learning strategies. The experiential training will include a one-day workshop that teaches principles of exposure and has therapists themselves undergo a one-session phobia treatment for spiders. Therapists in both training conditions will be asked to attend weekly consultation phone calls for a three-month period following the trainings.
