Use of Intorus to Control Anxiety Before Exams in Students at the University of Extremadura

STUDENTAnxiety Disorders

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the possible efficacy of the INTORUS device as an element to reduce test anxiety in university students. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: Can the INTORUS device be used as a tool to reduce anxiety? Once informed, those participants who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria and sign the informed consent to participate in the study will be randomly divided into two groups. The randomization procedure will be carried out using the OxMaR (Oxford Minimization and Randomization) software. All participants will be given the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Self-efficacy Scale and anxiety questionnaire prior to the start of the study.

Effectiveness of Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Frontline Health Care Workers...

InsomniaPost Traumatic Stress Disorder2 more

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in increased workload and concerns about personal and family safety for frontline healthcare workers (HCWs), which can lead to decreased well-being and worsening mental health. Sleep disruption is particularly prevalent among HCWs providing frontline COVID-19 care. It can have direct consequences on their cognitive and emotional functioning, as well as on patient safety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBTi) is a first-line treatment for insomnia. It has been shown to improve sleep health and wellbeing in the general population. However, there are significant barriers to delivering CBTi to frontline HCWs, including limited availability of trained sleep therapists and high costs. To address this, a Canada-wide randomized controlled trial is developed to determine the effectiveness of a digital CBTi program on the sleep health, mental health, wellness, and overall quality of life of frontline HCWs caring for COVID-19 patients. This study may provide an easily accessible and scalable sleep health intervention that can be included as part of a national and global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Precision Mental Health in Diabetes - Subtypes of Mental Health, Trajectories, and Patterns With...

Diabetes MellitusDepressive Disorder8 more

PRO-MENTAL is a non-interventional, prospective, observational study investigating longitudinal associations between diabetes distress, mental disorders, and glycemic outcomes in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The study aims to determine mental health subtypes, trajectories, and patterns and to advance a precision medicine approach to improve mental health in people with diabetes through personalized care and interventions. A total of 1500 people with T1D or T2D will participate in the study, running over a 24-month period. Participants will be recruited at different levels of diabetes care including specialized centers and hospitals. The assessment includes a baseline assessment (clinical interview, questionnaire survey, and laboratory assessment) and four subsequent measurement time points - every six months - to a total period of two years. Each measurement time point includes an online questionnaire survey as well as a 14-day ambulatory assessment of daily mental and somatic variables (smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of daily sleep quality, mood, stress, and diabetes-related burdens/distress, as well as continuous glucose measurement (CGM) of daily glucose levels). The study uses precision monitoring to identify evidence-based subgroups of people with diabetes with regard to mental disorders/problems and glycemic outcome. Epidemiological data regarding prevalence and incidence rates of depression, anxiety, and eating disorders will be analyzed, and patient trajectories and patterns will be determined. The study also aims to shed more light on the mediating mechanisms between mental health and glycemic outcomes. The findings of the study will be used as the basis to develop a precision medicine approach with personalized interventions for specific sub-groups of people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

The Relationship Between Fibromyalgia Syndrome Parameters With Disease-Pain Severity and the Quality...

Fibromyalgia SyndromeAnxiety Disorders1 more

In this study, the investigators aim to evaluate the relationship between disease severity, quality of life, anxiety and pain level in patients diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) with the parameters according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2016 diagnostic criteria. According to the 2016 ACR diagnostic criteria, there are 2 separate scales: Widespread Pain Index (WPI) and Symptom Severity (SS) . The relationship between these 2 parameters and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, the World Health Organization Short Quality of Life Questionnaire, and the McGill Melzack Pain Questionnaire and Beck Anxiety Questionnaire will be examined.

Comparing TBT to Disorder-Specific Psychotherapy in Veterans With Social Anxiety Disorder

Social Anxiety Disorder

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a brief, efficient, and effective treatment for individuals with depressive/anxiety disorders. However, CBT is largely underutilized within the Department of Veterans Affairs due to the cost and burden of trainings necessary to deliver all of the related disorder-specific treatments (DSTs). Transdiagnostic Behavior Therapy (TBT), in contrast, is specifically designed to address numerous distinct disorders within a single protocol in Veterans with depressive/anxiety disorders. The proposed research seeks to evaluate the efficacy of TBT by assessing psychiatric symptomatology and related impairment outcomes in Veterans with social anxiety disorder and comorbid posttraumatic stress via a randomized controlled trial of TBT and an existing DST. Assessments will be completed at pre-, mid-, and post-treatment, and at 6-month follow-up. Process variables also will be investigated.

The Effects of Music Listening on Anxiety and Agitation in People With Mild and Moderate Cognitive...

AnxietyAgitated Depression

Advancing age is associated with an increased risk of developing dementia which can lead to a rapid acceleration in both the healthcare costs and caregiver burden. There is a need to develop non-pharmacological and easily accessible modalities of support for the well-being and enhancing quality of life for individuals with dementia. There is evidence that music listening is associated with stress and anxiety reduction in older adults. Here, the investigators aim to assess the effects of music listening as provided by a novel digital music-based intervention (developed by LUCID) on mood, anxiety, and quality of life in individuals at the early stages of dementia. LUCID uses reinforcement learning machine learning to curate and personalize the musical playlist while incorporating monoaural theta auditory beat stimulation (ABS) into the music. The study will be conducted remotely with study hardware (tablets and Bluetooth speakers) being delivered to caregivers/participants. The study will take place over an 8- week period, with participants completing four 30 mins music or audiobook listening sessions per week. Pre and post-intervention assessments will be done via Zoom with the presence of a research staff member. The control condition consists of a randomized list of short audiobooks. The experimental condition consists of music and monoaural ABS curated by LUCID's AI system. The investigators hypothesize that the LUCID AI music curation system, compared to audiobooks, will be correlated with a greater reduction in measures of anxiety and agitation and an enhancement of mood and quality of life.
