The Effectiveness of Warm Hand Bath in Improving Anxiety
Preoperative AnxietyPatients undergoing surgery often experience anxiety before the procedure. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of warm water baths in reducing preoperative anxiety levels in middle-aged and elderly patients undergoing lower limb orthopedic surgery. This study utilizes a randomized controlled trial design and focuses on middle-aged and elderly patients undergoing lower limb orthopedic surgery in the orthopedic ward of a medical center in northern Taiwan. The patients are divided into an experimental group and a control group using block randomization. Patients in the experimental group receive a 10-minute warm water bath at 40°C on the evening before surgery as an intervention, while the control group receives standard care. Data are collected from both groups before and after the intervention, including personal information, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Visual Analog Scale for pain assessment, and Visual Analog Scale for relaxation, as well as vital sign measurements. Statistical analysis of the data is conducted using SPSS version 18.0 software, employing mean values, standard deviations, percentages, independent t-tests, chi-square tests, paired-sample t-tests, and generalized estimating equations for data analysis.

Those participants randomized to the intervention group will receive a link to a short survey gauging parent anxiety levels. The survey will be followed by a link to an informative animated video which the participants and their families will watch. The control group will be participants assigned not to receive the email link to the informative animated video.

Anxiety and FearIntroduction Ocular intravitreal injection is a widely used ophthalmic invasive technique to administer medication directly inside the patient's eye. Despite being usually a quick and painless intervention, some patients report nervousness and anxiety before and during the procedure. Music therapy could help in assessing this discomfort, as previous studies have shown it can beneficial, specially helping to reduce anxiety levels. Objective This study aims to assess the effect of music therapy on patients undergoing intravitreal injections and how it affects their anxiety. Methods This is a randomized, prospective, single blind, clinical trial. Patients will be divided into two groups. Group A patients will listen to classical music during the procedure (intervention). Group B patients (control), will not listen to music during the procedure. All other aspects of the procedure will be the same for both groups. To analyze the impact music therapy, patients will fill in the STAI anxiety questionnaire and will be evaluated with the pain visual analogue scale (VAS) before and after the injection procedure. Expected results Subjects that undergo the procedure with music therapy are expected to experience less anxiety that the ones that do not. Less pain perception is also expected.
