Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy for the Treatment of Social Phobia
Social Anxiety DisorderThis randomized clinical trial compares virtual reality exposure therapy to exposure group therapy to a waiting list control group.
A Safety and Efficacy Study of JNJ-42165279 in Participants With Social Anxiety Disorder
Phobic DisordersThe purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of JNJ-42165279 during 12 weeks of treatment in participants with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD).
Website-Based Self-Help for Women With Anxiety After Childbirth
Anxiety DisordersThis study examines the feasibility and acceptability of a web-based intervention program for women with anxiety after childbirth, potential anxiety reduction after the intervention and determines the feasibility of the study design (randomized controlled design) and recruitment for the intervention in this population to inform the protocol (including effect size and study power) for a randomized controlled trial.
Impact of Music on Satisfaction, Anxiety, and Hemodynamics During Spinal Anesthesia for Cesarean...
AnxietyHypotensionThe aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of perioperative music on maternal anxiety, hemodynamic response to spinal anesthesia, postoperative pain medication requirement, and overall maternal satisfaction. Investigators hypothesize that women exposed to perioperative music will have greater overall satisfaction with the delivery experience. Investigators also hypothesize that perioperative music will lower anxiety levels of women having a scheduled cesarean delivery, result in a less profound degree of spinal-induced hypotension prior to cesarean delivery, and result in a lower requirement of analgesics postpartum.
Project Collabri for Treatment of Anxiety
Generalized AnxietySocial Phobia1 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether treatment of patients with anxiety according to the Collabri Model is more effective in reducing symptoms compared to treatment as usual (TAU)
Meditation for Depression and Anxiety Symptoms in Dialysis Patients
DepressionAnxietyThis study examines the use of brief meditation interventions for patients with symptoms of anxiety and depression who are undergoing dialysis. Half of the participants will receive meditation interventions 3 times a week, while the other half will receive treatment as usual. This study will examine whether meditation is feasible and whether it has any effect on reducing symptoms of anxiety or depression.
Therapist Assisted Online Treatment for Anxiety
Anxiety DisordersTherapist assisted, internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (TAI-CBT) has been shown to be effective with patients who have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in multiple studies from several countries, including: the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Despite strong evidence of efficacy, TAI-CBT has not been offered in the USA. TAI-CBT could provide an effective alternative to face-to-face psychotherapy that would expand the availability and convenience of evidence- based treatment anywhere clinical availability is limited. The University of Florida (UF) has historically had greater demand for psychotherapy than the available supply of psychotherapy hours resulting in waiting lists for students needing to receive treatment for anxiety. Anxiety disorders interfere with memory and concentration thus impairing academic functioning. Students who must wait for treatment for 3-4 weeks are at risk for failing courses or dropping out of school. If TAI-CBT proved to be effective with UF students, providing it could increase the number of students who would receive effective and timely treatment. This project will create a 6-8 session therapist assisted on-line treatment for anxiety disorder. The investigators will offer TAI-CBT as an experimental treatment in summer and fall, 2013 comparing outcomes to face-to-face individual therapy, group therapy, and wait-list controls. The investigators hypothesize that students receiving TAI-CBT will have a reduction in anxiety symptoms comparable to face-to-face counseling and greater than wait list controls.
Attention Bias Modification Training for Child Anxiety CBT Nonresponders
Anxiety DisordersThis project will test Attention Bias Modification Training (ABMT) among children and adolescents who have completed a full protocol of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for anxiety and still meet criteria for a primary diagnosis of an anxiety disorder. The purpose of this project is to determine whether ABMT leads to reductions in anxiety and related impairment, relative to a placebo task condition.
Phase 2 Pilot Safety Study of MDMA-assisted Therapy for Social Anxiety in Autistic Adults
Social Anxiety in Autistic AdultsThis double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled exploratory pilot study assessed the safety and feasibility of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)-assisted therapy for social anxiety in MDMA-naïve adults on the autism spectrum. Each of the 12 subjects participated in two blinded experimental sessions, assisted by either MDMA (75 mg to 125 mg) or placebo, which lasted seven hours. Before experimental sessions, participants underwent three separate hour-long preparatory sessions to learn what to expect and complete pre-treatment assignments. After each experimental session, participants underwent three separate hour-long integrative sessions to help integrate their experiences and insights from the experimental sessions. Subjects assigned to the MDMA group received two of three different doses, either 75 mg, 100 mg, or 125 mg MDMA. Overall, eight subjects were randomized to the MDMA group and four subjects were randomized to the placebo group. Observations before, during, and after experimental sessions were compared between these groups. The main objective of this study was to collect safety data to examine whether MDMA-assisted therapy was tolerated and to estimate symptom reduction in social anxiety and other psychiatric symptoms. The primary outcome measure was change in social anxiety symptoms as measured by the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS) [Heimberg et al., 1999].
Cognitive Training for Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Major Depressive DisorderDepression4 moreThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a computerized cognitive training program (an attention and memory exercise performed on a computer) on thinking and memory in individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, and to begin to test whether this training affects symptoms of depression or anxiety.
