TUCSON Study: Tackling Underlying Causes Of Sleep Related Nocturia Nocturia
NocturiaInsomnia1 moreThe TUCSON study is a cross-sectional observational monocentric study. In order to provide a clinical helpful assessment for urologists for possible missed causes of nocturia, the aim is to investigate the voiding and sleep pattern through questionnaires and sleep and voiding diaries of patients consulting the urology department, sleep clinic and pneumology department. An assessment of the prevalence of missed underlying causes will be made and a subset of patients will be asked to deliver urine samples from every night time and first morning void to further investigate possible differences in urine content between the groups. First of all, with this research the aim to offer an idea about the order of magnitude for missed underlying causes of nocturia. Secondly, to discover a specific sleep and voiding pattern for the different entities of nocturia and thirdly, to offer a useful screening tool for underlying pathology in clinical practice.
Safety and Performance of UCon Bar Electrode for the Treatment of Overactive Bladder (OAB) and Bowel...
Urinary IncontinenceUrinary Incontinence8 moreUCon is a medical device for treatment of the symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB) and bowel dysfunction (BD). It electrically stimulates the DGN through the skin to obtain modulated behaviour of the bladder/bowel musculature e.g., suppress undesired bladder/bowel activity to relieve the symptoms of the patient. This clinical investigation is designed as a single-arm, prospective, multi-centre, and early feasibility study.
Pathophysiologic Study to Understand and Possibly Treat Nocturia
NocturiaThis study will mainly look at how well compression stockings decrease body weight between morning and night and the number of nocturia events, by preventing blood from pooling in your legs. Also, this research study is being done to collect the thoughts/reactions/opinions on how nocturia affects the life of one who suffers from nocturia.
A Pilot Study to Evaluate PureWick for Nocturia
NocturiaThis is a single-center prospective pilot study of PureWick used as a management for nocturia and reduction of nighttime falls associated with going to the bathroom. Subjects are followed up to 3 months after the intervention. As a pilot study, it is expected that a 3-month follow-up will adequately capture urinary and sleep outcomes data and any adverse events related or unrelated to the study device.
Lymphoedema and Nocturia/Nocturnal Polyuria After Pelvic LND for Urogenital Cancer
Urogenital CancerLower Limb Lymphedema2 moreAfter the treatment of urogenital cancer, a person may develop lymphoedema of the leg(s) and/ or midline region. Clinical symptoms include abnormal tissue swelling, sensation of limb heaviness, erythema, pain, and impaired limb function. Lymphoedema can have a negative impact on quality of life (QoL) and the impact of lymphoedema on the cancer treatment decision making process is underestimated. A limited number of studies have evaluated the incidence rate of midline and leg lymphoedema after surgery for urogenital cancers and have investigated the prognostic variables. In addition, to the researchers knowledge, no evidence exists regarding which (combination of) clinical measuring methods are most sensitive to detect early lymphoedema at the lower limbs after the treatment of urogenital cancer. Therefore, in this prospective observational study, the epidemiology (i.e. incidence/ prevalence rate and prognostic variables) and the detection methods of lower limb lymphoedema after pelvic lymph node dissection for urogenital cancer will be investigated. Additionally, the epidemiology of nocturia and nocturnal polyuria will be studied (since this information is also missing in literature).
Effect of Hormonal Replacement Therapy on Nocturia in Postmenopausal Women
NocturiaAim of this study was to observe The study was adjusted in two parts: PART 1 is a crossectional study in which the prevalance, risk factors and etiology of nocturia among postmenopausal women is assessed. PART 2 is a cohort study observing the impact of 10 different hormonal substitution therapies on nocturia.
Comparison Between Desmopressin and Fesoterodine for Treatment of Night Time Voiding in Women Aged...
NocturiaNocturia, or voiding at night, is an extremely troublesome symptom which is highly prevalent in the elderly. Desmopressin is a treatment for nocturia but it can result in hyponatremia (low blood sodium), particularly in those aged 65 and older. Fesoterodine is used for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). Recent trials showed Fesoterodine was effective in reducing nocturia. This study aims to answer the following: In women 65 and older with severe nocturia, is Fesoterodine more effective than Desmopressin in reducing the number of night time voids? Does Fesoterodine have a better side effect profile compared to Desmopressin? The study design is a 12 week randomized double-blinded trial of Fesoterodine and Desmopressin in the treatment of severe nocturia in women aged 65 and older. This will be conducted at the Urogynecology Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH) and Baycrest. A 3 day voiding diary and Nocturia, Nocturnal Enuresis and Sleep-interruption Questionnaire (NNES-Q) will be completed at baseline and at week 12. The primary outcome will be the number of night time voids in the Fesoterodine group compared to the Desmopressin group, 12 weeks after starting treatment. Secondary outcomes include changes in the NNES-Q scores and the safety of each medication. This study is expected to show that, in women 65 and older with severe nocturia, Fesoterodine will be more effective in reducing the number of night time voids, reducing the volume of voided urine, increasing the duration of sleep prior to first nocturnal void and improving quality of life relative to Desmopressin. Fesoterodine will also be better tolerated, with fewer significant adverse events, relative to Desmopressin.
Daytime Impact Sleep Study
NocturiaThis trial will investigate the relationship of sleep, daytime performance and nocturia in patients treated with Desmopressin or placebo. Male and Female patients will be administered Desmopressin or Placebo every day for 3 months.
Clinical Trial of Desmopressin on Nocturia in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Patients
NocturiaObstructive Sleep ApnoeaThe purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of desmopressin on symptoms of nocturia in patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). The improvement of sleep quality and the quality of life will be measured.
Investigation of the Effect of the Female Urinary Microbiome on Incontinence
Overactive BladderIncontinence1 moreThis purpose of this study is to understand the types of bacteria that are in the bladder and vagina in patients with overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms and understand if the types of bacteria change when with the use of estrogen in the vagina. The investigators are also trying to understand how estrogen influences the body's ability to make substances called peptides that can kill bacteria.
