Magnetoencephalographic (MEG) Localization of Ramelteon's Effects on Brain Function and Cortical...
InsomniaThe present protocol will utilize simultaneous recording of brain activity during attention and memory tasks in insomnia participants after ramelteon vs. zolpidem vs. placebo administration. The investigators hypothesize that amplitudes of associated with memory will be unchanged by ramelteon, whereas zolpidem will significantly reduce brain activity associated with stimulus processing as evidenced by abnormal reduction in the amplitude of specific brain regions relative to placebo.

Orexin-A Levels in Insomnia Patients
InsomniaAnesthesiaIn the pathophysiology of insomnia, the increase of the orexin-A (OXA) peptide released from orexin neurons in the lateral hypothalamus plays an important role. Orexins takes part at the emergence of anesthesia. In the literature, investigators could not attain any studies about the arousal of insomnia patients from anesthesia. In this study, the effect of this peptide on the emergence process from anesthesia was investigated by comparing plasma OXA levels before and after anesthesia in insomnia patients.

A Pilot Study Of The Effects Of Microcurrent On Three Sleep Surveys
Primary InsomniaParticipants identified as having primary insomnia will be randomly assigned to groups receiving microcurrent stimulation or sham in a double-blind randomized controlled trial. The microcurrent device used is FDA approved for the treatment of insomnia. The hypothesis is that the experimental group will have significantly improved scores on three sleep surveys after treatment while the sham group will not.
Clonidine is Better Than Zopiclone for Insomnia Treatment in Chronic Pain Patients
Insomnia ChronicPain1 moreA prospective observational crossover study of 160 consenting adult patients who underwent pain management. For insomnia treatment, each patient ingested different prescribed doses of Zopiclone or Clonidine on alternate nights. Each patient used a special validated sleep diary to collect data including pain score, sleep scores, sleep duration, sleep medication dose, and adverse effects. Each patient completed the diary for 3 continuous weeks. Pain was measured using the numeric pain rating scale. Sleep score was measured using the Likert sleep scale. A change in the pain or sleep scores by 2-points was considered significant.
