Bioequivalence Study of Torrent Pharmaceutical Ltd.'s Rabeprazole Sodium Delayed Release Tablets...

Healthy

Objective: Primary objective of the present study was to compare the single dose bioavailability of Torrent's Rabeprazole Sodium Delayed Release Tablets 20 mg and Aciphex® Delayed Release Tablets 20 mg (Reference, Eisai Inc., USA). Dosing periods were separated by a washout period during fed study. Study Design: Open-Label, Randomised, two Period, two treatment, Crossover, Single-Dose Bioequivalence Study

Prevalence of Malnutrition in Oncology (PreMiO)

MalnutritionPre-cachexia1 more

It is estimated that up to 30% of cancer patients die because of the effects of malnutrition, caused by a discrepancy between nutritional needs and intake (or utilization) of energy and essential nutrients. Malnutrition and its severe complication, cancer cachexia, are negative prognostic factors in neoplastic patients, inducing Decreased response and tolerance to antineoplastic treatments, decline in the functional status, reduced quality of life and reduced survival. Prevalence data on malnutrition in italian oncology patients are lacking and the available literature data on weight loss and malnutrition in oncology refer to patients in different phases of disease and therapy. Most importantly , strategies for prevention of malnutrition and cachexia in oncology are still largely disregarded and scarcely implemented. The main objective of this project is to assess the prevalence of malnutrition in patients undergoing first medical oncology visit in Italy. Secondary objective is to increase awareness of metabolic and nutritional issues among medical oncologists, thus favoring the inclusion of metabolic-nutritional screening and monitoring in medical oncology protocols. This would in turn contribute to reduce the negative consequences of malnutrition- and cachexia-related complications.

Assessment of Nutritional Status After Gastric Bypass Surgery

ObesityNutritional Deficiencies

This study is aimed at assessing how Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGP) impacts on energy and nutrients' intake, energy expenditure, and nutritional status in obese patients. It will try quantitate energy and protein balance after RYGP, and to identify how RYGP effects the intake of various common dietary protein sources 16 female patients with BMI > 40 kg/m2 and on a waiting list for bariatric surgery will be included. The following measurements will be performed before, and 1, 3, 6, 12, and 36 months after RYGP body weight body composition (bio impedancemetry) basal metabolic rate (open circuit indirect calorimetry) 24-hour urinary urea excretion fasting blood chemistry energy and macronutrient's intake (3-day dietary recall)

Effect of Alpha-lipoic Acid on Biochemical Markers and Important Outcomes in Patients Admitted to...

Oxidative StressInflammation1 more

Increasing Reactive oxygen and nitrogen production occurred simultaneously with decreasing serum and intracellular level of antioxidants and enzymes in critical ill patients, which result in increasing ventilator dependency and length of stay in intensive care unit and it also accelerate organ failures in patients. In this double blind clinical trial, the investigators examine effect of alfa-lipoic acid on those patients who admitted to intensive care unit that the investigators expect to stay for more than 7 days in this ward and who have tube feeding and don't have severe liver and kidney failure, AIDS and hepatitis. After randomization of included patients by block randomization the investigators will give 900mg/day alfa-lipoic acid for ten days to treatment group and identical placebo to control group by naso-gastric tube. The purposes of this study are decreasing ventilator dependency period, length of stay in ICU, mortality and decelerate of organ failures.

Effectiveness of Multiple Micro-nutrient Fortified Fudge on Nutritional Status of 3-5 Years of Age...

Micronutrient DeficienciesAnemia3 more

Multiple micro-nutrient deficiencies in Pakistan is wide spread, there is dire need to address these by using smart solutions, among them multiple fortified product (fudge) is an alternate possible way to address this issue. Fortified products have the potential to reduce micronutrient deficiencies in children, therefore in current study children from 3-5 years will receive fortified product along with enhance nutrition promotional information to bring change in their dietary practices and nutritional indices.

Nutritional Prognostic Factors in ALS

Nutritional DeficiencyNeuro-Degenerative Disease1 more

Background. Several nutritional factors have been evaluated as prognostic factors for survival in ALS patients at earlier stages of the disease [body mass index (BMI), body composition expressed as fat free mass (FFM), fat mass (FM), phase angle (PhA), low-density lipoprotein/high-density lipoprotein (LDL/HDL) ratio, cholesterol levels], while only two studies have evaluated some of these parameters after PEG placement. Aim. BMI and cholesterol levels were evaluated as prognostic factors for survival after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement Moreover, the relationship between body composition and BMI in a subgroup of ALS patients was evaluated.

Elucidation of Sensory Characteristics and Food Preferences in the Elderly

Malnutrition

Malnutrition is a frequent problem in persons older than 65 years: the prevalence of malnutrition can reach 25 to 29% in persons living at home who require help, figures vary between 19 and 38% for those living in institutions, and finally, the prevalence of malnutrition in hospitalized elderly patients can reach 30 to 90%. A few studies have attempted to explain modifications in attitudes, behaviour, the frequency of meals or nutritional status in the elderly by a fall in chemosensory sensitivity The aim of this project is to test the hypothesis that perhaps it is not as much the capacity to perceive a smell or a taste that affects eating behaviour in the elderly as their ability to distinguish between smells or tastes on the one hand (perceptual processing), and their ability to correctly interpret a chemosensory signal on the other (cognitive processing).
