The BabyGrow Longitudinal Study of Nutrition and Growth in Preterm Infants

Premature Birth of NewbornMalnutrition; Intrauterine or Fetal1 more

This is a longitudinal, observational study on nutrition, growth and body composition in preterm infants. Aims to determine the adequacy of actual nutrient intake during the preterm period by investigating associations between macronutrient supply, growth, and body composition at 34-weeks gestation, term equivalent and 2-month corrected gestational age.

Validation of BIVA for Nutritional Assessment in Cirrhotic Patients

Liver CirrhosisMalnutrition

Despite the importance of nutritional status in patient's outcome, there is no gold standard for nutritional assessment. Traditional techniques used in healthy subjects to assess nutritional status cannot be used in cirrhotic patients due especially to ascites and peripheral edema, and altered rates of biochemical markers due to liver failure. Bioelectrical impedance vector analysis has emerged as a useful method to assess body composition and nutritional status especially in patients at the extremes of body weight (fluid overload, excess of adipose tissue, etc.). With previous results from our research group, BIVA showed to be useful for evaluating cirrhotic patients. The aim of this study is to validate our previous results and validate BIVA for nutritional assessment in patients with liver cirrhosis

Different Strategies for Preventing Severe Acute Malnutrition in Niger

Malnutrition

Options for large-scale preventive distributions include fortified blended flours, ready-to-use foods and direct cash transfer either alone or in combination with family protective rations. Finding the most appropriate strategy is essential to prevent child malnutrition in countries like Niger with annual hunger gaps. Here, the investigators compare different preventive strategies on the incidence of acute malnutrition among children 6 to 23 months.

Breast Milk Composition and HIV-exposed/Unexposed Early Infant Growth and Infectious Disease Events...

HIVMalnutrition1 more

The purpose of this study is to understand how breast milk may protect infants from infection and promote favorable immunological, growth and development outcomes. By following mothers and their infants, we will evaluate the important interactions between infant immune responses and infectious disease events in relation to breast milk composition and feeding patterns. Our aim is to identify a set of predictive factors corresponding to healthy early infant growth and development in this setting in Northern Tanzania.

Early Life Nutritional Exposures and Long-term Health and Cognitive Outcomes

OvernutritionUndernutrition

This study aims to investigate the relationship of the various exposures during infancy and childhood on later health and development of adolescents. Various exposures to be assessed include, but not limit to, nutritional status, body composition, energy expenditure, dietary intake, micronutrient status, breastfeeding, lifestyle, and other environment exposures. The study will specifically aim to respond these research questions: 1.1 What are the factors associated with overweight, obesity, and stunted in adolescents? 1.2 What are the factors associated with increased risk of NCDs during adolescence? 1.3 What are the factors associated with cognitive functioning during adolescence? Since numerous variables were collected, additional research questions can be possibly studied or other interested variables can be included in the future.

Nutritional Status on Admission to Pediatric Intensive Care

MalnutritionDwarf - Nutritional

Study rationale: Children admitted to intensive care are often chronically ill and the intensive care setting may upset the balance between nutritional intakes and needs. As malnutrition is a key factor in the morbidity/mortality on pediatric intensive care units (PICUs), screening for malnutrition and the individualized adaptation of nutritional support are important elements of patient care. Yet no recent study has evaluated the nutritional status of children admitted to PICUs in France. Primary Objective: Determine the prevalence of malnutrition in the population of children admitted to intensive care. Secondary objectives: Determine the children's nutritional status on admission. Characterize the profile of malnourished patients compared with those not malnourished (sex, age, history, chronic disease, usual dietary habits, reason for admission, scheduled/unscheduled admission, surgery/medication, seriousness, seasonality). Describe the practices regarding nutritional care in each center. Population: All children (1 month to 18 years) admitted to all PICUs in France during three one-week periods (February, June, October) in the course of a year.

The ONSHUG Survey : A Quality Care Programme

Undernutrition

Hypothesis : At hospital discharge for home, the medical prescription of ONS according to the official criteria of SSNC and the legal regulations (completed prescription according to health's insurance and homecare delivery) dictates the compliance of the patient and the reimbursement of the ONS.

Making the Most of Mealtimes Determinants of Food Intake

Malnutrition

M3 is a multi-site cross sectional study. Data were collected form 640 residents in 32 homes in Canada. The primary purpose of this study was to identify food intake in residents and compare this to recommendations, as well as determine influential determinants of food intake.

Body Composition Changes During Stem Cell Transplantation: The Case Of Lymphoma Patients

Hematopoietic Stem Cell TransplantationMalnutrition1 more

Skeletal Muscle Index (SMI) and Visceral Adipose Ratio (VAR) assess body composition changes and disclose malnutrition risk effectively. The aims of the study are to assess prevalence of malnutrition in patients planned for SCT, to characterize changes in body composition (SMI, total adipose tissue and VAR) that occur in the peri transplantation phase, and to identify Waist Circumference (WC) cut off points associated with the metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) in patients with B and T cell Lymphoma.
