Study of Bicalutamide 1 x 50 mg Tablet in Healthy Subjects Under Fed Conditions

Healthy

The objective of this study is to compare the rate and extent of absorption of bicalutamide 50 mg tablets (test) versus Casodex® (reference) administered as 1 x 50 mg tablet under fed conditions.

Doxycycline Monohydrate 25 mg (5mL) Oral Suspension Under Fed Conditions

Healthy

The objective of this study was to compare the rate of absorption and the oral bioavailability of a test formulation of doxycycline monohydrate 1 x 25 mg (5mL) oral suspension manufactured by IVAX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and distributed by TEVA Pharmaceuticals USA to an equivalent oral dose of the commercially available reference product, Vibramycin Monohydrate® manufactured by Pfizer, Inc. Following an overnight fast of at least 10 hours, subjects consumed a standard high-calorie. high-fat breakfast meal. This standard breakfast meal began 30 minutes prior to each dose.

Airway IgA: Respiratory Tract IgA Levels in Anesthetized Patients Undergoing Elective Surgical Procedures...

HealthyMalnutrition

The purpose of the study is to determine the variability of airway IgA levels in anesthetized, well-nourished and malnourished patients undergoing elective general surgical procedures and the effect of gender and race on this baseline variable. The hypothesis is that airway IgA levels are lower in malnourished than in well-nourished patients.

Bioavailability of Bosutinib Administered as Capsule Contents Mixed With Applesauce or Yogurt Relative...

Healthy Participants

This study is intended to estimate the relative bioavailability of a single 500 mg dose of bosutinib when administered as capsule contents mixed with applesauce or yogurt to intact capsules under fed condition in adult healthy participants. The comparisons will be performed using the pharmacokinetic parameters that define the rate and extent of absorption, those are Cmax and AUC. Statistical analyses will be performed comparing these parameters calculated after administration of a single 500 mg dose with the intact capsule formulation (100 mg x 5) as the Reference treatment and the capsule contents mixed with applesauce or yogurt (100 mg x 5) as the Test treatments.

Prevalence and Risk Factors for Micronutrient Deficiencies During Pregnancy in Cayenne, French Guiana...

Deficiency; DietPregnancy

Micronutrient deficiencies are frequent in pregnant women in French Guiana, a French territory in South America. Micronutrient deficiencies are more frequent in precarious women. Obesity is a frequent problem but it is also associated with micronutrient deficiency. Micronutrient deficiencies have largely been overlooked in this outermost European region and should be corrected.

Eating Habits and Lifestyle Profile of an Italian Aging Cohort

AgingHealthy Aging4 more

Aging is characterized by low-grade inflammatory state, supported by impairment oxidative balance and endocrine changes, leading to changes in: body composition, such as decrease in lean body mass and increase in adipose tissue; resting metabolic rate; immune function; cognitive impairment. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics all subjects over the age of 60 should be able to access to adequate nutrition and appropriate nutritional services. In order to ensure healthy aging and to reduce effects of specific diseases, recommendations are needed for illness and disability in this population, as well as adequate physical activity and specific support programs, culturally accepted. The aim of this study is to evaluate eating habits in term of food consumption, health state and lifestyle in a sample of free-living elderly over the age of 65, living in Milan and surroundings. In particular, profiling of the elderly population is performed using a survey in which information are collected on methods, contexts, time and ability to buy, prepare, consume and dispose of and recycle food. Eating habits and knowledge about food are detected through the analysis of food consumption frequencies, and lifestyle by assessing the level of physical activity, quality of sleep, smoking habit. Weight status and health status are evaluated through anthropometric measurements, body composition (bioelectrical impedance) and strength test. Other information relating to social participation and other socio-demographic variables (age, gender, family composition, socio-economic status) are collected to have a completed profiling of target population. Achieved results will help us to identify factors on which acting to ensure healthy aging and counteract inflammaging, the chronic low-grade systemic inflammation characteristic in the aging process. Moreover, the study allows increasing the knowledge related to the needs and requirements of the target population to determine a good food policy and to increase the elderly empowerment.

Assessment of a Combined Strategy of SMC + Nutrients Supplementation to Tackle Malaria and Malnutrition...

MalariaMalnutrition1 more

Malaria and malnutrition represent major public health concerns worldwide especially in Sub-Sahara Africa. Despite implementation of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprophylaxis (SMC), an intervention aimed at reducing malaria prevalence among children aged 6- 59 months, the burden of malaria and associated mortality among children below age 5 years remains high in Burkina Faso. This raises the question of what hiding factors may negatively affect the responsiveness of SMC intervention. Malnutrition, in particular micronutrient deficiency, is one of these potential factors that can negatively affect the effectiveness of SMC. Treating micronutrient deficiencies is known to reduce the prevalence of malaria mortality in highly prevalent malaria zone such as rural settings. Therefore, the hypothesis that a combined strategy of SMC together with a daily oral nutrients supplement (Vitamin A-Zinc OR fortified peanut butter-like paste-Plumpy'Doz) will enhance the immune response and decrease the incidence of malaria in this population and at the same time reduce the burden of malnutrition among children under SMC coverage was postulated. Prior to the SMC implementation by the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), children under SMC coverage will be identified through the Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS). Children will be randomly assigned to one of the three groups (a) SMC + Vitamin A alone, (b) SMC + Vitamin A+ Zinc, or (c) SMC+Vitamin A + Plumpy'Doz. After each SMC monthly distribution, children will be visited at home to confirm drug administration and follow-up for one year. Anthropometric indicators will be recorded at each visit. Blood samples will be collected for thick and thin film and hemoglobin measurement and spotted onto filter paper for further PCR analyses. This project will serve as a pilot of an integrated strategy in order to mutualize resources for best impact. By relying on existing strategies, the policy implementation of this joint intervention will be scalable at country and regional levels.
