The Effects of Increased Fiber Diet Consumption on Outcomes of Subjects With Visceral Obesity

Visceral Obesity

The investigators propose to undertake a controlled dietary intervention study in UAE subjects with visceral obesity to examine the feasibility of a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and/or whole-grain fiber in the UAE population. The research will also investigate the longer-term influence of increased fruits, vegetables and fiber consumption on health and its capacity to sustain lifestyle change.

Powdered Fermented Fruits for Glycemia Reduction

Cardiometabolic Risk FactorsObesity1 more

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of an acute intake of two fermented fruits flours as part of a standardized breakfast, in comparison with the acute intake of a standardized breakfast without fermented fruits flour but with the same amount of available carbohydrates, on postprandial glycaemic response and overall metabolism in subjects at cardiometabolic risk. The metabolic parameters will be assessed in fasting and in postprandial period after the consumption of the standardized breakfast.

Effect of Dietary Fiber Supplement on the Intestinal Microbiota Among Schizophrenia Patients

SchizophreniaCentral Obesity

Background There has been much interest in the relationship between the types of gut microbiota and the development of obesity in recent years. It has been reported that the proportions of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes differ between obese and normal weight human subjects. Human intestinal microbiota compositions have been found to be associated with long-term dietary habits and lifestyle. However, an increasing number of researches show that intestinal microbiota composition may be affected after short-term diet intervention. Importantly, obesity and metabolic problems play important roles in morbidity and mortality of schizophrenia patients. Human intestinal microbiota compositions related with obesity may impact the heath of this population. Therefore, we searched current advances about the connection of obesity, intestinal microbiota compositions, and diet in schizophrenia to conduct a clinical research focus on the effect of high fiber diet on the intestinal microbiota of schizophrenia patients with central obesity. Method We will investigate in a 4-week intervention whether consumption of dietary fiber supplement(Inulin) affect the microbiota composition in schizophrenia inpatients with central obesity. Fecal samples from participants before and after the intervention will be processed for the microbiota analysis.

Sarcopenia and Visceral Obesity in Esophageal and Gastric Cancer

Esophageal CancerGastric Cancer10 more

In line with improvements in oncologic outcome for patients with esophageal cancer, the attritional impact of curative treatment with respect to functional status and health-related quality of life (HR-QL) in survivorship is increasingly an important focus. Functional recovery after surgery for esophageal cancer is commonly confounded by anorexia and early satiety, which may reduce oral nutrient intake with consequent malnutrition and weight loss. One in three disease-free patients has more than fifteen percent body weight loss at three years after esophagectomy. The ESPEN Special Interest Group on cachexia-anorexia in chronic wasting diseases has defined sarcopenia as skeletal muscle index (SMI) of ≤39 cm2/m2 for women and ≤55cm2/m2 for men, while similar cut-off points have been validated in upper gastrointestinal and respiratory malignancies (less than 38.5 cm2/m2 for women and 52.4 cm2/m2 for men). The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) additionally recommends that assessment should also include determination of muscle function, for example gait speed or grip strength, where possible. The presence of sarcopenia is associated with increase treatment-associated morbidity, impaired HR-QL, reduced physical and role functioning, and increased pain scores in older adults. In addition, a previous longitudinal study demonstrated that the decline in HR-QL over a six year period in older adults was accelerated in the presence of sarcopenia. As such, sarcopenia may represent a modifiable barrier to recovery and subsequent retention of HR-QL and functional status, and may reinforce a persistent illness identity, among patients following potentially curative treatment for esophageal cancer.

Ghrelin and Diastolic Heart Function

Diabetes MellitusType 23 more

In type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obese patients the adipose tissue could over-express cytokines, sirtuin-1 (SIRT1), and microRNAs (miRs) implied in the regulation of left ventricle (LV) diastolic function (LV-DF). Ghrelin could modulate these pathways. Thus, in the current study authors will investigate ghrelin expression in T2DM obese patients after abdominal fat excision, and particularly in those with normalization of LV-DF at 1 year of follow-up.

Anthropometric Assessment of Abdominal Obesity and Health Risk in Children and Adolescents

Obesity

Childhood obesity is a major public health issue, and the identification of children who are at increased risk of health problems due to their obesity is a priority for modern health care. Abdominal fat is considered to be the most harmful in the body, and the development of reliable landmarks and procedures for the assessment of intra-abdominal visceral adipose tissue and total body fat in children will have a major impact on 1) the early identification of children at elevated health risk, 2) the proper prioritization of health care resources, and 3) the standardization of obesity surveillance procedures within and between countries.

Genes Variability in Obesity and Normal Body Weight Patients.

ObesityVisceral1 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about variability of gene SCD and MT-ATP6 in describe participant population and health conditions. The main questions it aims to answer are: • whether there is variation in genes between obese and normal weight individuals Participants will get body weight and high was assessed using the medical scale and stadiometer, then, basis on obtained results, the Body Mass Index (BMI) will be calculated. Next, participants get determine the body composition and body composition analysis by bioelectrical impedance method to determined: Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT in cm2 and %), Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue (SAT in cm2 and %), and the VAT/SAT ratio was also determined. Then order to examine the sequence of the genes, swab will take from the oral cavity (cheeks and palate) using sterile swab. The research was carried out at the Department of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition (Medical University of Bialystok).

Laparoscopic Clip-Gastroplasty With The Use Of Bariclip

ObesityObesity2 more

Sleeve gastrectomy, the most commonly performed bariatric surgery procedure, carries limitations both short-term including postoperative complications such as hemorrhage and gastric fistula and long-term such as weight regain and gastro-esophageal reflux. A new procedure has been proposed to overcome many of these limitations: laparoscopic vertical clip gastroplasty (LVCG) with Bariclip. Primary outcome were major postoperative complications. Secondary outcomes included weight loss, incidence of de-novo GERD and comorbidity resolution.
