LiPO Teen (the Lifestyle in Pregnancy and Offspring Teenagers

ObesityLife Style4 more

The study is a follow-up of a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) performed in 2007-10 - the "Lifestyle in Pregnancy" LiP study. The LiP study included 360 pregnant women with BMI ≥30 kg/m2 from Odense University Hospital and Aarhus University Hospital. The women were randomized to intervention with low-calorie diet and physical activity from gestational age 10-14 in pregnancy and until delivery - or to a standard care control group. The objective of the LiPO-Teen project is to perform a clinical follow-up study of the eligible 301 mothers who completed the trial until delivery with a liveborn child, and their 14 year-old offspring. The overall ambition is to understand whether lifestyle intervention in pregnancy prevents obesity and its complications across generations, with a specific focus on modifiable factors.

Beijing (Peking)---Myopia and Obesity Comorbidity Intervention (BMOCI)

ObesityMyopia

Based on the RE-AIM framework, this project intends to integrate the prevention and control measures of myopia and obesity, and establish a set of key suitable technical packages and guarantee systems for the "comorbidity-common-cause-common prevention" of myopia and obesity in children and adolescents. Hetongzhou District selected 24 intervention schools (about 20,000) and 12 control schools (about 10,000) to apply the application, integrate the resources of the "family-school-community-medical institution", and establish a comprehensive combination of myopia and obesity in children and adolescents In the prevention and control demonstration area, a one-year intervention study was conducted to evaluate the comprehensive intervention effect of myopia and obesity in children and adolescents in the demonstration area, and to promote it through the regional monitoring system in Beijing. This project is the first time to establish a district-level comprehensive prevention and control demonstration area for children and adolescents with myopia and obesity that can be promoted, including key appropriate technology packages and promotion and application strategies. Healthy Beijing 2030" plan laid the foundation.

The control group will report their past week physical activity levels and the intervention group will review the material in weekly newsletters on behavior changes related to physical activity. Physical activity levels will be measures before and after the intervention.

Healthy Kids Beyond the Bell: Investigating the Impact of After-School and Summer Programs

Health Status DisparitiesPediatric Obesity2 more

Nearly one in five children are obese, and disparities in overweight and obesity between children from low- and middle-to-high-income households persist despite a multitude of school-based interventions. The structured days hypothesis posits that structure within a school day plays a protective role for children against obesogenic behaviors, and, ultimately, prevents the occurrence of excessive weight gain, thus, past school-based efforts are misplaced. This study will provide access to healthy structured programming via vouchers to afterschool programs and summer day camps during two "windows of vulnerability" (ie afterschool and summer) for low-income children.

Obesity and Cardiovascular Diseases, Cross-sectional Study in Saudi Arabia

Obesity and Cardiovascular Risk

The purpose of this research study is to collect information on participants body weight, blood sugar levels, heart related diseases and lifestyle. The collected information will help estimate the prevalence of participants disease. This study will take about 6 months. However, participants involvement in the study will not extend beyond their routine visit and will thus require a maximum of 1 day. If participants choose to take part, they will be asked to give information about their health in routine clinical visit. Participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire about their lifestyle. Participants will complete this questionnaire during their normally scheduled visit with their doctor. Participants will continue their normal way of life and will not get any medication other than those prescribed to them by their doctor. Participants will have no direct benefit from participation in this study and there are no risks involved. Participants decide voluntarily whether they want to participate in this study or not. Participants' decision will not affect their medical care and they do not have to justify their decision. Participants are free to leave the study at any time and without giving reasons. This does not affect their current or future treatment. The data collected up to that point are still being evaluated. There is no additional cost to participants for being in this study.

BAriatric Surgery Induced Chromosomal Change

ObesityMorbid

The purpose of this study is to better understand the impact of weight-loss surgery on telomere length. Telomeres are a key marker of biological aging of cells. Telomere shortening is a natural process of aging. Several pathologies and lifestyles are associated with premature telomere shortening, such as obesity, diabetes mellitus or sedentary lifestyle. New evidence supports that telomere shortening can be partially reversed by lifestyle changes such as healthy diet, reduced stress, or increased physical activity.
