Study to Evaluate Safety and Efficacy of Inhaled Bimosiamose for the Treatment of Patients With...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to determine whether inhalation of Bimosiamose is safe and effective in the treatment of patients with moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Interaction in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Experiment
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseCardiovascular Disease2 moreThe final purpose of this study is to determine whether bronchodilation and cigarette smoking in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients interact, resulting in an increase of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this part of the study is to demonstrate the basic mechanism: Does increased respiratory function after administration of a bronchodilator in patients with COPD lead to elevated pulmonary retention of the harmful compounds in inhaled cigarette smoke and to short-term biological effects associated with cardiovascular disease?

The Effects of Broccoli Sprout Extract on Obstructive Lung Disease
AsthmaCOPDThe purpose of this study is to examine whether broccoli sprout extract can effect lung function measurements in individuals with asthma and COPD.

Sickness Absence Versus Physical, Mental, and Job-related Factors in Patients With Chronic Pulmonary...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseAsthmaPeople with chronic respiratory disease have shortened work life, their disease is associated with greater work disability and they are at greater risk of being unemployed. Lower employment rates and higher sickness absence is expensive for the community and leads to financial as well as social consequences for the individual. There is a lack of data on factors that can predict sickness absence and disability in patients with pulmonary disease. We therefore want to study a group of people with COPD and asthma referred to our clinic. The study will investigate relationships between sickness absence and exercise capacity, job-related factors, disease severity, self-efficacy, health related quality of life and subjective health complaints.

Pathogenetic Mechanisms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases
COPDAsthmaAsthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) are common diseases, which tend to even increase in many countries. Both from a clinical and a pathophysiological point of view, this is an important issue. However, an understanding of the relationship between the complex array of cells and mediators involved in asthma and COPD is not yet fully dissected which makes difficult to find a specific and sensitive panel of biomarkers that can reflect intensity of these pathological processes and can help to predict the individual outcome.

Acute Effects of Acu-Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (Acu-TENS) on Forced Expiratory...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Acu-TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation applied on acupoints) on lung functions, dyspnoeic symptoms and its association with beta endorphin level in subjects with COPD.

Secondary Prevention of Problems in Health Status in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseHealth StatusThe purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an intervention conducted by a pulmonary nurse in patients with COPD. The hypothesis is that in a sample of COPD patients with clinically relevant problems in health status (physiological functioning, symptoms, functional impairment and quality of life), a motivational intervention conducted by a pulmonary nurse will lead to patient-tailored treatment and an improved health status.

A Dose Range Finding Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of AZD9668 Administered Orally at...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThe primary objective is to evaluate the dose-response relationship and efficacy of AZD9668 at 3 dose levels compared with placebo in symptomatic COPD patients by assessing effects on lung function and symptoms of COPD.

Fish Oil and HMB Supplementation in COPD
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseIn the present study, the role of chronic (10 weeks) intake of low dose (2g/day) of EPA+DHA in whole body protein metabolism, and functional performance and systemic inflammation will be examined, and whether adding either HMB at 3.0 g/d to the low dose of EPA+DHA (2.0 g/d) will enhance these effects even more.

Targeting Pulmonary Perfusion in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin DeficiencyEmphysema1 moreThe aim of this study is to test whether aspirin improves endothelial function in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency-associated lung disease, measured by pulmonary microvascular blood flow on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and with apoptotic endothelial microparticles.
