The Development of Novel Clinical Tests to Diagnose and Monitor Asthma in Preschool Children

AsthmaWheeze3 more

The study will ascertain the ability of preschool lung function tests to distinguish healthy children from those with wheeze, and to differentiate phenotypes of wheezy children (high and low risk for asthma as defined by API) in order to predict response to therapy, and to explore the correlation between preschool lung function test results and symptoms, in order to develop objective methods for monitoring asthma.

Bioburden and Usability Evaluation of a Nasal Prototype CPAP Mask

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

AIM AND HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study is to monitor the bioburden and impedance characteristics of a prototype mask system and to evaluate the usability of the mask system. The mask system will be assessed according to objective data recordings and user questionnaires. It is hypothesised that the prototype mask components will not pose a health risk (with regards to bioburden and impedance) and that the mask system will pass usability objectives to adequately deliver CPAP treatment.

A Research Study for Children About Heart Changes and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

In this research study the investigators want to learn more about the risk of developing blood vessel and heart disease from night-time sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition that results from blocking of the throat during sleep. This study examines changes in blood pressure, blood vessel stiffness, heart size and levels of specific substances in the blood which may cause heart disease. This study is for children ages 5 to 13 years. The study involves 3 visits over 18 months. The first and last visits include an overnight sleep study (polysomnography or PSG). All the visits will include: body measurements to measure growth and how weight is distributed, resting blood pressure measurements, heart measurements (electrocardiogram and ultrasounds of the heart and blood vessels), 36 hour home ambulatory blood pressure measurements, blood tests to look at things like fats, cholesterol, inflammatory factors, questionnaires Optional parts of the study include DNA and for children 8 years and older, testing and questionnaires to learn more about how sleep relates to learning, memory and behavior issues.

Sleep Quality in Pregnancy and Its Impact on Pregnancy Outcomes

Obstructive Sleep ApneaPregnancy Induced Hypertension4 more

Hypothesis:Sleep Disorders are very common during pregnancy but the their exact role in causation of pregnancy related disorders is yet to be determined. OSA can complicate pregnancy given the risk factors of weight gain, upper displacement of the diaphragm, and hormonal-induced hyperaemia of the nasopharyngeal passages. SDB confers the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and is associated with adverse maternal and foetal outcomes. The study would involve pregnant females which would be prospectively followed in pregnancy and post partum to know the prevalence of sleep disorders in pregnancy. Diagnosis of sleep disorders would be confirmed by overnight polysomnography and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Pregnancy outcomes, both maternal and fetal would be recorded and its relation with sleep disorders in pregnancy would be analysed.

Evaluating Instrumentation for Dental Devices Used in Treating Sleep Apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Oral appliances are an accepted means to treat obstructive sleep apnea. We propose to develop monitoring sensors that could be inserted into commercially available oral appliances in order to monitor effectiveness of the oral appliances in treating sleep apnea.

Comparison of Different Screening Score for Hypoxemic OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) With the Results...

Sleep ApneaObstructive

Comparison of different screening score for hypoxemic OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) with the results of a polysomnography (PSG). The different screening score studied are: STOP-BANG, DES-OSA, P-SAP and OSA50.

Sleep Schedules Modifications in Sleep Apnea Patients Treated by nCPAP

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

In Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients, sleep is disrupted and sleep quality is very poor. The investigators can suppose that with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, there is an improvement in sleep quality, such that patients need less sleep to be fit. Sleep schedules on mid term periods in OSA patients under CPAP therapy has not been studied. The investigators have planned to study sleep schemes before and after CPAP therapy in moderate to severe sleepy OSA patients.

Dynamic Alterations of Tongue in Sleep Apnoea Hypopnea Syndrome During Sleep

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

The aim of this study was to evaluate the dynamic changes of the tongue in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) during sleep and while awake by using Ultrafast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (UMRI)

Upper Airway Collapsibility Evaluation in Different Sedative Levels by Sleep Endoscopy

BronchoscopyObstructive Sleep Apnea1 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the upper airway collapsibility by sleep endoscopy in different sedative levels. Propofol pump infusion will be used to achieve conscious sedation. Bispectral Index monitor will be applied to the monitor the conscious level. Two different sedative levels (BIS 65-75, 50-60) will be achieved for upper airway evaluation. The severities of upper airway obstruction will be evaluated the correlation to the disease severities. Mandible advancement will be done to evaluate the response for oral appliance.
