The Relationship Between Obesity-related Molecular Typing and Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution...
Obstructive Sleep ApneaObesityObesity is an epidemic and a growing problem in the world. There are numerous causes of obesity, the most novel and personalized of which is genetic inheritance. Single nucleotide polymorphisms are the most common type of genetic variation among people, regulating the response between the diet and the body. Meanwhile, Traditional Chinese medicine pattern differentiation is also personalized and usually influenced by inheritance, living habits, character and environment and so on. The common constitutions in obesity are Qi deficiency, Yang Deficiency, and Phlegm dampness, which are correlated with oxygen, sugar and fat metabolism, also affected by gene expression. Therefore, the relationship between constitution, metabolism and genetic molecular typing may be significant in obesity with obstructive sleep apnea patients.
Prevalence of Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome in Obese Children
Sleep ApneaChildren1 morePrincipal aim: To determine the prevalence of Sleep Apnea- Hypopnea syndrome in obese children. Secondary aim: 1. To fix the implication of the adenotonsillar hypertrophy, the obesity and the hormonal factors in the pathogeny of SAHS in children. 2. To determinate of clinical and neurophysiologic characteristics of childhood SAHS associated with obesity. DESIGN: A prospective transversal study.
Voice Acoustic Properties in People With Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS)
Obstructive Sleep Apnea of AdultThe aim of this study is to examine whether voice acoustic properties has an influence on sleep apnea. Sleep apnea syndrome is defined as a sudden stop of more than ten seconds multiple times during sleep. The syndrome is common especially among men and occurs in 2%-4% of the population aged 30-60. The syndrome diagnosis is performed by an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) physician. The diagnosis is based on evaluation of anatomical structures in the sound path (nose and throat, jaw, pharynx and oral cavity) and a Polysomnography (PSG) test which quantifies the number and duration of breathing pauses during night sleep and additional parameters that monitor sleep. The syndrome has many negative consequences for those who suffer from it, including fatigue , lack of concentration, hypertension, diabetes ,heart disease, stroke and even death. Therefore, early diagnosis is important.
Reiterative Development and Evaluation Study of OSA Therapy System
Obstructive Sleep ApneaThe purpose of this study is to evaluate new iterations/generations of the ApniCure sleep therapy device.
Registry for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease With Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome in China
COPDSleep Apnea SyndromesCOPD and sleep apnea dyspnea syndrome represent two of the most common chronic lung diseases. It is reported that the prevalence of COPD with sleep apnea dyspnea syndrome is also very high. COPD and sleep apnea may have pathological or genetics interactions so that patients having both disorders tend to have worse outcomes than either condition alone. Data reflecting the prevalence, disease course and outcome of overlap syndrome is very limited in China. Therefore, the aim of the study is to describe the prevalence, treatment and outcome in Chinese patients and exploring the underlying interaction mechanism.
Evaluating the Alimentary and Respiratory Tracts in Health and Disease (EARTH) Research Program....
Cystic FibrosisHirschprung's Disease2 moreThe investigators have established the "Evaluating the Alimentary and Respiratory Tracts in Health and disease" (EARTH) research program. It provides a structured approach to analysing gastrointestinal and respiratory microbiomes, along with diet and symptomatology, in children with a gastrointestinal and/or respiratory condition with recognised long-term morbidity (e.g. cystic fibrosis, obstructive sleep apnoea, or Hirschsprung's disease). The EARTH program consists of a series of prospective, longitudinal, controlled, observational studies, with each individual study comparing children with a chronic gastrointestinal and/or respiratory condition to healthy controls (HC). It will be conducted in an Australian tertiary paediatric hospital (although the methodology is applicable to other settings). Children with a chronic gastrointestinal and/or respiratory condition will be compared to age and gender matched HC across a 12-month period. The following will be collected at baseline, 6 and 12 months: (i) a stool sample, (ii) an oropharyngeal swab or sputum sample, (iii) a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, (iv) details of disease symptomatology, (v) health-related quality of life, and (vi) psychosocial factors. Data on the intestinal and respiratory microbiomes and diet will be compared between children with a condition and HC. Correlations between dietary intake (energy, macro- and micro-nutrients), intestinal and respiratory microbiomes within each group will be explored. Data on disease symptomatology, quality of life and psychosocial factors will also be compared between children with a condition and HC. The investigators hypothesise that: (i) Children with chronic gastrointestinal and/or respiratory conditions will have altered intestinal and respiratory microbiomes compared to healthy children, and (ii) Diet plays a key role in influencing the intestinal and respiratory microbiomes and this may impact on clinical outcomes, biomarkers of disease, and health-related quality of life.

Use of Analgesics and Pain Scores After Pediatric Adenotonsillectomy
PainPostoperative1 moreThe purpose of the study is to quantify the use of pain medications given to children aged 3 - 12 years as well as their pain level through pain scores after they have undergone a tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy surgery at Doernbecher Children's Hospital (DCH). We would like to learn more about the pain medications given and the pain scores of children post-surgery for the first 5 days following discharge from the hospital.
