Translation of the Sydney Swallow Questionnaire and Validation of the German Version

Dysphagia

Translation of a validated questionnaire (SSQ) from english to german and validation of the german version. The SSQ consists of 17 well-structured questions for the assessment and quantification of patient reported difficulties in swallowing function. The tool is specifically designed to evaluate important aspects of swallowing function The questions cover the symptoms related to combinations of variables like the anatomic region, type of dysfunction, and the consistency of swallowed bolus.

Valuation of Swallowing in Patient Sedated for Gastroenteric Endoscopic Procedure

Sedation for Gastroenteric Endoscopic ProcedureDeglutition Disorders1 more

Aim of this study is to evaluate swallowing functionality in patient sedated for gastroenteric endoscopic procedure. Swallowing will be study by laryngeal fibroscopy and evaluate using Penetration-Aspiration Scale and Aspiration Risk validated in scientific literature. Aim of the study is to describe swallowing, as an expression of airway protection, in sedated patient. in particular, our purpose is to determine the incidence of moderate-severe and severe swallowing alteration (level 3 or 4 of Aspiration Risk scale).

Clinical Evaluation of Swallowing Disorders as a Predictor of Extubation Failure

Central Nervous System DiseasesAcute Respiratory Failure3 more

Patients with failed extubation stay significantly longer in an intensive care unit (ICU) and have a higher mortality rate, than those intubated successfully. Reintubation is associated with life-threatening complications and a poor prognosis. Functional respiratory tests are frequently used as weaning parameters, however, they are not accurate enough to predict extubation failure. The incidence of swallowing dysfunction is underestimated, mainly among patients whose intubation lasts longer than 48 h.We previously observed that the assessment of the swallowing function and oropharyngeal motricity, conducted by the physiotherapist before extubation could be helpful for making decisions to extubate patients intubated for over 6 days. The objective of this study is to validate a scale previously devised and used for physiotherapist bedside evaluation of the swallowing function and oropharyngeal motricity, among patients intubated for over 6 days, to determine whether this scale is a good predictor of airway secretion-related extubation failure.Expected results : to validate a scale previously devised called " physiotherapist evaluation of the swallowing function and oropharyngeal motricity before extubation" by the mean of a multicentric study. In our hypothesis the clinical parameters studied could be predictive of extubation failure. Then, this evaluation could help the medical decision in the choice of the good time for extubation. The final objective is to lower the mortality related to extubation failure.

Use of the SWAMECO Questionnaire Basel

Swallowing Difficulties

A patient self-report questionnaire was developed that assesses subjective swallowing difficulties with medication intake, the SWAMECO questionnaire. It was validated in a highly specific population and will now be tested in the general population.

Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosing Dysphagia Patients

Respiration DisordersSwallowing Disorder4 more

In this prospective study we extracted acoustic parameters using PRAAT from patient's attempt to phonate during the clinical evaluation using a digital smart device. From these parameters we attempted (1) to define which of the PRAAT acoustic features best help to discriminate patients with dysphagia (2) to develop algorithms using sophisticated ML techniques that best classify those i) with dysphagia and those ii ) at high risk of respiratory complications due to poor cough force.

The Influence of Age and Gender on Tongue Pressure and Swallowing Tongue Pressure

Swallowing Disorder

The main topic of the research is to investigate the tongue's strength when swallowing. There has been much foreign literature on tongue strength. Iowa Oral Performance Instrument also has norms for reference, but the data are all taken from non-Asian people such as Caucasians. In this case, the credibility of the norms are decreased in domestic, and we also lack norm data of tongue strength when swallowing. Through the research, we can establish normative data belonging to the domestics, provide usable data for domestic researchers and clinical staff, and explore whether there are differences in age and gender in data between Taiwanese and foreigners.

Validation of the Turkish Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire

Parkinson DiseaseDysphagia

Purpose of the study is the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire (SDQ-T), so that it would be used as an assessment tool for Turkish Parkinson Disease's (PD) patients. Despite being translated and validated in many languages, there is no validated Turkish version of SDQ to measure the severity of dysphagia in PD.
