Study Agent/ Intervention/ Procedure The educational tool consisted of 20 short (MSK) case simulations of 15 minutes duration reflecting conditions of the upper extremity; lower extremity; spine; trauma and MSK infections were developed, reviewed and integrated into links that also contained demographic questionnaires; pre and post simulation knowledge questions and learner satisfaction surveys. Outcome Measures Demographic questionnaire for the Learner; 100 MCQ (multiple-choice questionnaire) reflecting the same questions contained in the 20 MSK Short Case Simulations Pre/Post multiple choice question knowledge questionnaire Learner satisfaction questionnaire Patient experience and satisfaction questionnaire - QR Code Educator evaluation questionnaire - QR Code Focus group questionnaire Primary Objectives To determine if learners working through the 20 MSK Short Case Simulations delivered through on-line links would improve their knowledge, skills and satisfaction in learning how to identify and initially manage patients with various MSK conditions when compared to learners not exposed to the same educational tool. To determine patients' experience undergoing one of the 20 MSK assessments and initial management of their various MSK conditions by the learners and their satisfaction in receiving their initial care management in both groups To determine if the assessment and initial management of the 20 MSK conditions by the learners on the patients was deemed to be competent by the educators in both groups

REACH Personal Mobility Device Testing

Developed countries are facing the challenge of ageing societies, lack of infrastructure for healthcare and high cost of care. Researchers have been attempting to answer these problems by using innovative technology to promote healthy ageing. In this trial, the investigators test the efficiency and acceptance of a personal mobility device for elderly physical rehabilitation. The main objective of the study is to investigate whether rehabilitation using the mobility equipment is as effective as the standard care; secondly, to determine if there is an improvement in clinical outcomes such as physical strength, balance, and risk of falls after using the mobility equipment; and third, to establish whether the use of the REACH concept adds value to the continuity of patient care, specifically in terms of engagement and motivation to be more active during the hospital stay and when returning home.

This study evaluates whether ketamine, given as part of an anesthetic, improves depression symptoms in depressed patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Half of participants will receive a ketamine infusion during surgery, while the other half will receive a placebo (normal saline) during surgery.

Opioid Counseling Following Orthopaedic Surgery

Postoperative pain management and opioid consumption following outpatient orthopaedic surgery may be influenced by a number of variables including knowledge of safe opioid use. A prospective randomized study is designed to understand the effect of preoperative opioid counseling on postoperative opioid consumption and the typical opioid consumption patterns following common outpatient orthopaedic surgeries. The hypothesis was that patients who received preoperative opioid counseling will consume less postoperative opioid medication and experience greater satisfaction with pain management.

Tolerogenic dendritic cell (tDC)-based clinical trials for the treatment of autoimmune diseases are now a reality. Clinical trials are currently exploring the effectiveness of tDC to treat of type 1 diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and Crohn's disease. The general objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a single intra-articular injection (into the knee joint) of autologous monocyte-derived dendritic cells generated in the presence of interferon-alpha (IFN-α)/granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and tolerized with Dexamethasone in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.

This study aims to assess the effect of twin subparaneural injection into individual paraneural sheaths of Common Peroneal Nerve (CPN) and Tibial Nerve (TN) below their point of divergence from the sciatic nerve on the sensory motor blockade after Popliteal Sciatic Nerve Block (PSNB) at the popliteal fossa (back of the thigh) for patients requiring lower limb surgeries.

As part of a Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF project (On-site multi-component intervention to improve productivity and reduce the economic and personal burden of neck pain in Swiss Office-Workers, NEXpro = Neck EXercises for productivity, SNSF no. 32003B_182389, BASEC no. 2019-01678), the investigators first developed a physiotherapeutic exercise intervention to improve the strength and mobility of the neck muscles. In the SNSF project NEXpro, the intervention took place on-site in the office. However, in view of the digital transformation, it is important to adapt the intervention delivery method to the new virtual work setting. The aims of the present project are therefore to implement, further develop and contextually adapt the exercise intervention in order to reduce musculoskeletal complaints and to reduce health-related presenteeism. The final product is a user-friendly virtual 6-week short exercise intervention that employees of the University of Bern can use independently, regardless of time and place. The effectiveness of the newly developed short exercise intervention (pain reduction, reduction of presenteeism) will be assessed during a short pilot phase.
