Hip Replacement in a High Volume Community Hospital: Effect on Length of Stay and Hospital Cost...

Hip Osteoarthritis

The investigators propose to evaluate and compare the percentage of patients who are able to be discharged in less than 3 days after undergoing total hip arthroscopy through either a direct anterior or posterior approach, utilizing the identical post operative protocol. The investigators also propose to evaluate the costs associated with the two different approaches to hip replacement in the same group of patients. Post operative resource utilization, discharge disposition, and pain medicine requirement will also be evaluated.

Functional Evaluation of the Total Knee Prostheses:Rising From a Chair

OsteoarthritisKnee2 more

In this study, a functional evaluation of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients is performed. The patients are measured prior to surgery and 6 and 12 months after surgery. The measurements consist of questionnaires and rising from a chair. Also, two types of TKA are functionally evaluated. At last, the TKA group will be compared to a THP group.

Pro-inflammatory Cytokines in Blood From Orthopedic Surgery Compared to Abdominal Aneurysm Repair...

Aortic DiseasesOsteoarthritis1 more

The purpose of this study is to investigate the contents in blood sampled from surgery site during hip replacement compared with blood sampled from abdominal aortic surgery. Is there any difference in pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α), complement activation (C3a)?

Quality of Care for Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis in Elderly Patients

Knee OsteoarthritisHip Osteoarthritis2 more

Introduction: Hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) was ranked in 2010 as the eleventh highest contributor to global disability. In France in 2014, non-spinal OA was the leading self-reported cause of morbidity among adults over sixty-five years of age, with a prevalence of 49.5 per cent. OA is known to be the first cause of disability in activities of daily life and a risk factor of frailty among people over seventy-five years of age. Despite its major impact on the elderly population's quality of life and health, quality of care for OA in elderly patients remains understudied. Objective: The study aims to assess the quality of care for knee and hip OA in patients aged 75 years and over.

The External Obturator Footprint as a Landmark for Stem Depth in Direct Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty...

Coxarthrosis

One of the goals of Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) is to reconstruct leg length as adequately as possible. In order to achieve this one needs landmarks that are visible both on the templating X ray as well as during surgery. The classical posterior and lateral approaches often rely on the distance from the greater trochanter (GT) to the shoulder of the femoral stem or the distance from the lesser trochanter (LT) to the side of the neck osteotomy. If the surgeon finds out on the digital template that the distance from the GT to the shoulder of the implant should be X mm to achieve equal leg length, than the surgeon can try to reconstruct this during surgery. During the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) these landmarks usually are not visible or require additional dissection injuring important soft tissue structures along the way. One anatomical structure that appears to be always visible during the DAA is the External Obturator tendon (EO). It was recently confirmed that the level of insertion of the EO onto the proximal femur can also always be determined on pre-operative X rays. It therefore represents one of the few landmarks that is visible both on the templating X ray as well as during DAA THA. Indeed, many hip surgeons, including ourselves, believe that if the shoulder of the femoral stem is near the insertion of the EO leg length cannot be far off. However, there is no clinical data to support this. The investigators would therefore like to the correlate the distance observed intra-operatively to the actual established distance on the post-operative X ray.

Postural Control in Degenerative and Inflammatory Diseases of the Hip

Hip OsteoarthritisHip Arthritis

Patients with primary hip osteoarthritis (OA group) and patients with inflammatory hip disease (RA group) and healthy subjects (control group) are enrolled in the study. The aim of our study is to determine the postural control in patients suffering from OA and RA of the hip joint during different conditions, i.e., on both stable and compliant surfaces with opened or closed eyes to determine the possible differences between these two diseases in this respect.

Migration Pattern of C-stem AMT Versus Exeter in Total Hip Arthroplasty

Coxarthrosis

Hypothesis: Migration of C-Stem AMT is equal to the well documented Exeter prosthesis In Norway it is annually performed approximately 600 primary and 100 revisions THA. Osteolysis around the prosthesis is one of the major difficulties while performing revision surgery. C-stem is a triple tapered cemented prosthesis designed to increase the stress and strain of proximal femur and thereby decreasing osteolysis. We are planning til include 70 patients and randomize to C-stem AMT or Exeter prosthesis. Both prosthesis will be combined with previously non documented "Marathon" acetabular prosthesis. The result will be followed clinically and with RSA and DXA. Soft endpoint after 2 years

Medium and Long Term Outcome of Total Hip Arthroplasty Using Accolade TMZF Femoral Stem

Osteoarthritis of the Hip

This is a retrospective/prospective study evaluating the clinical and radiographic outcome of total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed using Accolade femoral stem in a consecutive group of patients. All patients eligible for inclusion will be identified. The investigators hypothesize that the outcome of THA performed using Accolade femoral stem is equal or superior to historical survivorship of THA using other types of collarless, proximally coated, tapered stems.

Retrospective Assessment of the Morphology of Acetabular Defects: A 3D Reconstruction Approach

Hip ArthrosisHip Injuries

In this study, we aim to develop a statistical shape model and use it to reconstruct the shape of acetabula with severe defects (Paprosky 3a-3b). This will allow us to visualise and assess the morphology of the missing bone. In future studies we will use the obtained results to improve the design of acetabular implants for revision surgery.
