fMRI Study of Expectancy on Acupuncture Treatment Outcomes in Knee OA

OsteoarthritisKnee

The results of the proposed experiments will directly inform clinicians who treat patients with osteoarthritis of the knee about how to maximize the benefits of acupuncture treatments. And because the experiments specifically asks the question of what is the relation between a patient's expectation of how a treatment will relieve their pain and the outcome of the treatment, the results will potentially inform care givers about all treatments for osteoarthritis and other chronic pain disorders. We hypothesize that acupuncture treatment will produce clinically significant analgesia as indicated by lowered sensory ratings of noxious stimuli and endogenous knee pain.

ARTIST: ARThrose Intervention STandardisée

Knee Osteoarthritis

International recommendations (ACR,EULAR) emphasize physical exercise and weight loss for patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. Nevertheless, number of patients receiving advices for these 2 points still low. This study evaluates the impact of a standardized medical intervention (patient education, weight reduction and physical exercise) in knee osteoarthritis patients.

Study on Costs and Effects of Waiting Time in Total Hip and Knee Replacements

OsteoarthritisHip2 more

The aim of this study is to compare the cost-effectiveness of major joint replacement in patients with short and non-fixed (control group) waiting time (WT). After being placed on the waiting list, patients will be randomized into two groups through regular contact with the practice staff: (1) Patients with non-fixed waiting time (patient undergoes hospital's normal procedure from the date (s)he is added to the waiting list to the date of operation), and (2) patients with short waiting time (operated in maximum three months). The main question is: is it possible to improve the cost-effectiveness of major joint replacement by shortening waiting time?

Adherence to Treatment in Egyptian Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

the aim is to measure the level of adherence of knee osteoartheritis patients to a Carefully curated program that follows the American College of Rheumatology/Arthritis (ACR) recommendation guidelines and investigate the factor that might affect the patient's adherence to the prescribed protocol.

Joint Awareness After Total Knee Replacement

Knee OsteoarthritisArthroplasty Complications

Total knee replacement (TKR) is accepted as treatment of choice for end stage gonarthrosis. It is performed cemented or cementless and although cemented implants were shown to decrease bone density more than cementless fixations there is no evidence-based difference between them in the literature. As far as the investigators are concerned, the effect of cementation on patients' joint perception has never been studied so far.

How Variations in Pharmacogenomic Profiles Affect Pain and Narcotic Needs Following Total Knee Arthroplasty...

Knee OsteoarthritisTotal Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

The purpose of the study is to gain a better understanding of how genetic variations can affect pain experience and the need and type of pain control medication after a total knee replacement.

Investigation of Predisposing Factors Affecting Pain in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisKnee

This study aims to determine the factors affecting pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). This study will be carried out following the "Helsinki Declaration", by selecting 106 volunteers who were diagnosed with knee OA, who applied to the Department of Orthopedics between February 2022 and August 2023 and met the inclusion criteria. Before the evaluation, all the volunteers participating in the study will be informed about the purpose of the study, its duration, and the evaluations to be made. Consent will be obtained from all volunteers participating in the study with an "Informed Voluntary Consent Form". Demographic and clinical characteristics of all patients who voluntarily accepted to participate in the study will be questioned with the "Knee Osteoarthritis Evaluation Form". Quality of life, pain, range of motion (ROM), muscle strength, presence of comorbidity, and functional evaluation will be recorded on the form.

Cost Effectiveness of Prolotherapy Injections Prior to Total Knee Arthroplasty

Knee Osteoarthritis

This study compared the cost effectiveness of two-stage algorithm (prolotherapy injections (PrT) combined with rehabilitation protocol (RP) prior to total knee arthroplasty (TKA)) and one-stage algorithm (TKA) in the management of advanced stage knee osteoarthritis.

RF TKA Prehabilitation

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of the radiofrequency applied to the sensory innervation of the knee, with respect to a control group (standard therapy), in a prehabilitation program aiming to improve the functional recovery of patients undergoing TKA. In the present study, the investigators hypothesize that participants treated with radiofrequency 4-6 weeks before the surgery, should be able to effectively accomplish the prehabilitation program and, therefore, have a faster recovery of their functional status in the post operative period , compared with the control group (That use the present state of the art approach)
