Evaluation of Functional Improvement After Spa Therapy in Fontcaude Center

Knee Osteoarthritis

Evaluation of functional improvement after spa therapy in Fontcaude center, for knee osteoarthritis Background. Knee osteoarthritis is the first indication of spa therapy in rheumatology. This therapeutic represents a non pharmacological treatment and is recommended by OARSI. In order to obtain agreement for spa therapy, the center Fontcaude, needs to show clinical improvement for patients, as demonstrated in the Thermarthrose study. This center is near Montpellier and could improve patients localised in this area.

Knee Osteoarthritis Outcome Measures in Arthritic Patients With Osteoporosis

OsteoporosisKnee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this study is to generate proof of concept human data by evaluating osteoarthritis outcome measures in arthritic patients that are prescribed Forteo® as the standard of care to treat their primary diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Univation XM France

OsteoarthritisKnee3 more

The study is set up due to regulatory purposes and to collect routine clinical data of the mobile-bearing implant univation XM. The study is designed as a prospective follow-up study with a historic patient cohort who have been treated with the product under investigation two years ago. This design is selected to quicker realize follow-up data as patients have already been treated in the past. As the mobile version of the implant is not widely used, the study will be set up as a monocentric study in France. The clinical hypothesis of the study is that patients who are treated with the product under investigation have a similar outcome and survival rate in comparison to other established unicondylar knee systems on the market. Comparison for the later evaluation will be taken out of recent orthopaedic registries.

Physical Therapy Components for Maximum TKR Outcome

Knee OsteoarthritisKnee Replacement

The overall goal of this study is to identify what Physical Therapy care components are associated with the best patient-reported functional outcome after Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. The investigators are specifically looking at outcomes at 6 and 12 months after surgery.

Wearable Sensor-based Balance Training for Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the leading causes of lower limb disability among the elderly and can cause loss of knee joint proprioception that contributes towards deterioration of postural balance. Maintaining a good postural stability is essential while performing everyday functional activities and to avoid falls. Exercise training has been reported to reduce pain as well as improve performance of functional tasks in patients with KOA however compliance to exercise can be challenging due to pain, lack of motivation and traditional nature of exercise that can easily overtax patients. Furthermore, there are not exercise programs that are specifically designed for patients with KOA in order to address lost knee joint proprioception. Recent studies have also demonstrated that visual feedback during exercise can enhance the benefits of exercise training. Therefore, the aim of the proposed study is to implement an interactive sensor-based exercise training to improve postural balance, gait and activities of daily living in patients with KOA.

Psychosocial Predictors of Poor Outcomes After a Knee Arthroplasty

OsteoarthritisKnee

The purpose of this study is to explore the association between the psychosocial variables: pain catastrophizing, fear of movement, coping skills, pain attitudes, anxiety and depression with postoperative outcomes (pain, health functioning, physical performance, and quality of life) after a knee arthroplasty (KA). The prevalence of KA has increased dramatically during the last two decades, its popularity can be attributed to its evident success regarding pain improvement, deformity correction and disability reduction in knee osteoarthritis subjects. However, only a third of the patients report no functional problems after surgery, the 20% of them are unsatisfied with its functional skills and around a 20% are experiencing pain, high disability degrees and a significant quality of life reduction. This results cannot be fully explained by mechanical processes, surgical procedures or surgery variations, but seems to be related to other psychological aspects. Chronic pain subjects often develop maladaptive thoughts and behaviours (i.e. pain catastrophism, kinesiophobia, activity avoidance) which contribute to make the subject suffer physically as well as emotionally, and affect on the intensity and persistency of pain. This study is a single centre, prospective observational study of subjects undergoing primary KA. The study is designed and aimed to examine the relationship between postoperative psychosocial factors and the development of post-operative persistent pain and disability.

Safety of Bilateral HTO: One-Stage vs.Two-Stage: A Randomized Controlled Study

Gonarthrosis; PrimaryVarus Gonarthrosis

In this study, bilateral simultaneous high tibial osteotomy (HTO) was compared with staged bilateral HTO in terms of complications. We did not use any grafts to support the osteotomy line and the patients were mobilized immediately with a full load on a postoperative day 1. And our hypothesis is that bilateral simultaneous applications are safe in comparison to the staged ones in terms of complications.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections For Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

It was conducted a prospective study with a series of 153 patients treated with PRP injections in patient affected by knee osteoarthritis. One independent observer performed clinical and functional evaluations at T0 (recruitment), T1 (one month after the injection), T2 (three months after the last injection) and T3 (six months after the last injection). The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), the Knee Score Society (KSS) score and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were evaluated and recorded for each patient at each follow up.

Visual Feedback Non-weight Bearing Exercise on the Elderly With Knee Osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis

Degenerative knee arthritis is the most common chronic arthritis disease. Once the elderly suffer from this disease, it will accelerate the loss of body function and autonomy. strength performances and maintain are the most important functional performances of lower extremities, especially in walking and balance in daily activities for elderly people with osteoarthritis(OA) of the knee. However, combining the exercise and visual feedback may promote the muscle strength and functional performances of lower limbs, facilitating the muscle strength, motor and boady functional performances for elderly adults after OA knee. Therefore, the purpose of this proposal is to investigate the changes in muscle strength and physical fitness of lower limbs in older adults following OA knee after visual feedback non-weight bearing exercise intervention.
