Post Market Clinical Follow-up of EUROSTEM Femoral Stem

Hip OsteoarthritisHip Arthropathy4 more

EUROSSTEM is intended for use in primary and revision total hip replacement surgery. Hip replacement is intended to provide increased patient mobility and reduce pain by replacing the damages hip joint articulation in patients where there is evidence of sufficient sound bone to seat and support the components. As part of post market vigilance, EUROS will collect data on EUROSTEM performances and safety

Comparison of Two Hydroxy-apatite Coated Hip Stems

Hip Osteoarthritis

In this study, the investigators propose to randomize 80 subjects to receive either the Avenir cementless hip stem or a competing, HA-coated hip stem (Corail, DePuy-Synthes) and follow these patients for a period of 2 years post-surgery. The investigators aim to determine if the Avenir cementless hip stem has equivalent or better fixation and clinical outcomes compared to a predicate hip stem with longer clinical history.

H1 Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty

Hip OsteoarthritisHip Necrosis1 more

This is a prospective, non-randomized, consecutive series, multicentre, observational study to evaluate the clinical outcome of ceramic-on- ceramic hip resurfacing arthroplasty using the ceramic, non-porous, non-cemented H1 Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty. It includes a safety study followed by an efficacy study. Patients will be followed up for 10-years postoperatively. The primary aim is to confirm the safety of the H1 hip resurfacing prosthesis by demonstrating non-inferiority of the H1 device in terms of survivorship. The secondary is to evaluate superiority of the ceramic-on-ceramic H1 hip resurfacing prosthesis compared to Metal-on-Metal (MoM) hip resurfacing in terms of absence of metal ion release. The primary end point is revision for any reason.

Analysis of a Tapered Porous Coated Stem and a Cementless Hemispherical Acetabular Component

OsteoarthritisHip

This prospective study will evaluate the hip function and quality of life of patients operated for total hip arthroplasty with Masterloc femoral stem and MPACT acetabular cup. The results of this study will establish the performance of Masterloc femoral component (Medacta International SA) and MPACT acetabular component (Medacta International SA), and provide a general estimate of survivorship, clinical effectiveness and complications.

Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Fasinumab in Patients With Moderate-to-Severe Chronic Low Back...

Chronic Low Back PainOsteoarthritis

The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of fasinumab in relieving Chronic low back pain (CLBP) as compared to placebo in participants with a clinical diagnosis of moderate-to-severe non-radicular CLBP and Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee or hip when treated for up to 16 weeks. The secondary objectives of the study are: To evaluate the safety and tolerability of fasinumab compared to placebo when participants with a clinical diagnosis of moderate-to-severe non-radicular CLBP and OA of the knee or hip are treated for up to 16 weeks; To characterize the concentrations of fasinumab in serum over time when participants with a clinical diagnosis of moderate-to-severe non-radicular CLBP and OA of the knee or hip are treated for up to 16 weeks; To evaluate the immunogenicity of fasinumab when treated for up to 16 weeks in participants with a clinical diagnosis of moderate-to-severe non-radicular CLBP and OA of the knee or hip.

Trial Evaluating Devil's Claw for the Treatment of Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisKnee2 more

Osteoarthritis of both the knee and hip joints are common conditions; knee osteoarthritis affects 6% of adults over 30 years of age and osteoarthritis of the hip affects between 3% and 6% of the Caucasian population. Both forms of osteoarthritis are associated with disability. Conventional treatment (analgesics and the use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, NSAIDS) is prophylactic, aimed at decreasing pain and improving function. However long term use of NSAIDS is associated with a high incidence of adverse events (gastrointestinal tract symptoms). A safer alternative treatment would therefore be beneficial. Both anecdotal evidence and recent studies have implicated the potential of the herbal remedy Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) for the treatment of painful, chronic arthritic type conditions (Ernst and Chrubasik, 2000). Devil's Claw is an extract obtained from the root of the Harpagophytum procumbens plant, a member of the sesame family found in the Kalahari region in South Africa. It has been shown that this herbal remedy has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects (Baghdikian et al, 1997). Currently Devil's Claw is marketed for use as a supportive treatment of degenerative arthrosis, is not a Medicines Control Agency licensed product and is freely available to the general public in health food stores and pharmacies. The objectives of this study are to assess the efficacy, optimum dosage and safety of the herbal remedy Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum) in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee and/or hip. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the following three principal questions: To compare the efficacy of Devil's Claw with placebo in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee and/or hip To determine the optimum dose of Devil's Claw and To evaluate the safety and tolerability of three doses of Devil's Claw in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee/hip and to compare them to placebo There are also a number of secondary research objectives that will also be addressed (see later). These objectives are based on the following hypotheses : Hypotheses Devil's Claw has anti-inflammatory properties (as assessed by the reduction in pain, stiffness and disability aspects on the WOMAC) in chronic osteoarthritis of the knee and/or hip after 16 weeks of treatment, as compared to placebo. A dose response effect exists in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee/hip by Devil's Claw.
