Assessing the Impact of Isokinetic Muscular Strengthening in Eccentric Mode in the Medical Treatment...
Unilateral Knee OsteoarthritisKnee osteoarthritis (O.A. from now on) is associated to muscular weakness of inferior limbs, especially the quadriceps; leading to disease progression. Advantages of muscular strength training for the treatment of this kind of O.A. is now well established. In this therapeutic field, isokinetic exercises seem to have a better efficiency than other, more frequently used, kinds of exercises such as isometric or isotonic exercises. Functional impairment caused by knee O.A. is mainly affecting walking. Walking induces muscles to work in eccentric mode. The hypothesis of this study is that muscular strengthening using isokinetic exercises in eccentric mode would have a more important benefit than isokinetic exercises in concentric mode. Such an hypothesis, if verified, could lead to a better management of rehabilitative knee exercises in the treatment of knee O.A.
Genicular Nerve and Intra-articular Radiofrequency Versus Platelet Rich Plasma Injection for Knee...
Chronic Knee OsteoarthritisThe social impact of degenerative diseases such as articular cartilage pathology and osteoarthritis (OA) is steadily increasing, because of the continued rise in the mean age of the active population. A variety of noninvasive solutions have been proposed for pain treatment, improvement in function and disability, and ultimately, modification of the course of severe cartilage lesions and OA, with variable success rates. Intra articular and genicular nerves radiofrequency (RF) is a minimally invasive technique that usually aims at the neuropathic pain. One important mechanism for the chronic pain mediated by OA is peripheral sensitization, which increases the transmission of pain signals. Through conduction block in pain-transmitting nerve fibers by thermal damage, RF could ease pain without destroying the antennal nerve. The role of growth factors (GFs) in chondral repair is now widely investigated in vitro and in vivo. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a simple, low cost, and minimally invasive method that allows one to obtain from the blood a natural concentrate of autologous GFs.
Viscosupplementation in the Hip Following Hip Arthroscopy
OsteoarthritisHip arthroscopy is a rapidly evolving procedure that has seen an exponential increase in the number of cases performed yearly. With hip arthroscopy still in its infancy in relation to knee and shoulder arthroscopy, there are still many questions yet to be answered. Axioms that were once thought to be true regarding indications and treatment for hip arthroscopy are continually being revised. As with the knee and shoulder before it, the hip is now graduating into treatment avenues that were otherwise thought to only be possible through an open surgical procedure. Viscosupplementation in patients post arthroscopy with known articular cartilage injury has been shown to be efficacious. The pathophysiology of hyaline degradation during the arthritic process within the knee has been studied, and with this understanding has grown the widespread usage of viscosupplementation. While questions still exist regarding the effectiveness of viscosupplementation in non-weightbearing joints, it appears the benefits seen in the weight bearing joints, such as the knee, are apparent
Effect of Skanlab Regarding Knee Arthrosis
ArthrosisThe purpose is to find out the effect of Skanlab at knee arthrosis.
Effect of Glucosamine or Ibuprofen Combined With Physical Training in Patients With Knee-Osteoarthritis...
Osteoarthritis of the KneeThe investigators will investigate the effect of glucosamine or ibuprofen combined with 12 weeks of muscle strength-training in patients with knee-osteoarthritis. The investigators would like to elucidate whether treatment with glucosamine or NSAID interact with the effects of exercise in osteoarthritis patients.
Efficacy of Celecoxib 200mg in Relieving Pain and Walking Dysfunction in Osteoarthritis of the Knee...
Osteoarthritis of the KneeThe purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of celecoxib versus placebo in delaying the onset of pain and improving walking function in subjects with knee Osteoarthritis
The Effectiveness of Hylan GF-20 on Joint Reaction Forces and Kinematic Patterns During Gait in...
OsteoarthritisThe use of Hylan G-F 20 as a treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee has become popular in recent years. Typical treatment of OA of the knee includes NSAIDs and physical therapy protocols to strengthen local muscle groups and decrease pain. When these conservative treatment modalities have been exhausted, the next step is arthroplasty of the knee. Hylan G-F 20 treatments provide physicians with an intermediate mode of treatment prior to surgery. Hylan G-F 20 is a cross-linked, high molecular weight derivative of hyaluronan which can be found within the synovial capsule of the knee. This form of viscosupplementation is intended to reduce the pain suffered by those with OA by increasing the fluid levels within the synovial space, providing a cushion between the bony surfaces within the knee joint. Current studies have only looked at self-reported pain relief or Outcomes Inventories. This study aims to determine the ability of Hylan G-F 20 treatment to improve the parameters of gait of individuals who suffer from OA.
Effects of Genicular Nerve Block in Knee Osteoarthritis
Knee OsteoarthritisGenicular nerve block is a safe and effective therapeutic procedure for intractable pain associated with chronic knee osteoarthritis (OA). There is increasing support for the neuropathic component to the knee OA pain. Investigators proposed that targeting treatment to the underlying pain mechanism can improve pain management in knee OA. There is a debate on injectable solutions used in nerve blocks. Investigators aimed to investigate the efficacy of genicular nerve block and to determine which solution should be appropriate for patients with knee osteoarthritis who have neuropathic or nociceptive pain.
Comparative Efficacy and Tolerability of No7 in Osteoarthritis of the Knee
OsteoarthritisKneeThis study evaluates the effect of dietary supplement Solgar No7 in 76 adult Osteoarthritis of the Knee Patients, while the other half will receive placebo.
The Benefit of Functional Movement Control for Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis
Knee OsteoarthritisThe study purpose is to explore the effect of functional movement control for patients who have stage II or III degenerative knee joint disease and also physical inactive. Half of patients will receive aerobic exercise and functional movement control training in combination, while the other will simply receive aerobic exercise.
