Evaluation of the Clinical Efficacy of Y-STRUT® Medical Device Implanted for Contralateral Percutaneous...

Fracture of HipOsteoporosis

HIP50 is a national, multicentre, prospective, observational study, in patients presenting a first low energy per trochanteric hip fracture on one side and treated with Y-STRUT® device implanted on the contralateral proximal femur as percutaneous internal fixation to prevent contralateral hip fracture in case of osteoporosis. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the studied medical device by measuring the frequency of patient with a fracture at the implantation site within 1 year after implantation. A total of 50 patients from France will be enrolled (until December 2020) and followed up to 24 months.

Treating Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies Related Reduced Bone Mineral Density With Denosumab...

Idiopathic Inflammatory MyopathiesOsteoporosis1 more

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) patients are at high risk of development of reduced bone mineral density due to impairment of functional status due to the disease and a relatively high dose of glucocorticoid use for the treatment. Reduced bone mineral density is prevalent in local IIMs patients. Denosumab and zoledronic acid are established treatments for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. However, the role of these treatments in reduced bone mineral density including osteoporosis and osteopenia related to IIMs are lacking. There is also no evidence on comparing the efficacy of the two agents. Therefore, the investigators conducted this prospective randomized controlled study to compare the efficacies of denosumab and zoledronic acid in treating reduced bone mineral density in IIMs patients. The hypothesis in this study is that treatment by denosumab or zoledronic acid would improve bone mineral density in IIMs patients with reduced bone mineral density.

Bone, Endocrine and Lifestyle Longitudinal Study

Osteoporosis

The purpose of this proposal is to determine the long-terms effects of hormone and lifestyle factors on bone health in young women over a 20-year time period. It is our primary hypothesis that premenopausal women with irregular periods or endocrine issues related to estrogen will have significantly poorer low back and hip bone health when compared to regularly menstruating women. It is our secondary hypothesis that long-term assessment of changes in endocrine function and lifestyle behaviors will assist in establishing risk factors for osteoporosis in young women. This study will include 1000 premenopausal women. The women will participate in the collection of a blood sample, bone scan, body fat measures, and lifestyle questionnaires. In addition, we hope to use this initial study to develop a group of women to follow throughout menopause, with additional visits occurring every 5 years over the course of their life.

Osteoporosis in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

COPD,Osteoporosis

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are at increased risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Osteoporosis, however, may be equally as disabling as COPD, and may impair respiratory function even further if the patient experiences vertebral compressions. In this study, we will survey the prevalence, correlations and effectiveness of intervention of osteoporosis in COPD patients.
