Wideband Tympanometry in Otitis Media With Effusion
Otitis Media With EffusionThe investigators asked the question if they can better estimate the middle ear status in OME that help them to decide between early intervention or longer follow up.
Tympanostomy Tube Extrusion Time & Viscosity
OTITIS MEDIA WITH EFFUSIONStudies have focused on the factors that influence tympanostomy tube (TT) extrusion may contribute to the management of OME. In this study the investigators aimed to assess the correlation between the TT extrusion time and viscosity of the middle ear fluid. 33 patients scheduled for TT insertion included in the study. During the paracentesis, fluid from the middle ear was obtained, and the viscosity was measured with a viscometer. After the surgery, patients were controlled monthly until the tubes were seen extruded. The analysis of the correlation between tube extrusion time and viscosity was insignificant (p >0.05).
Wide Frequency Band Test of Hearing in Veterans
Hearing LossSensorineural8 moreThe accurate assessment of auditory status is critical for planning treatment for Veterans with hearing loss to include medical and audiological management. Current physiologic tests of auditory function in the standard clinical audiological test battery for Veterans have limited sensitivity in detecting some middle-ear disorders, and do not include a direct test of cochlear function. Recent studies have shown promise for new wide-bandwidth (WB) tests of absorbance for improved sensitivity in the assessment of middle-ear function including acoustic reflex testing. The addition of WB tests of cochlear function included in the WB test battery provides an opportunity to improve audiological diagnosis of a range of hearing disorders in Veterans. The automation provided by the WB test battery could provide additional benefits in reducing the duration of the evaluation, leaving more time for evaluation of test findings and counseling. Results from this study may lead to the improvement of audiological care for Veterans with hearing loss.
The URT and Middle Ear Microbiota in Health and During Chronic OME
Otitis Media With EffusionHealthyThis study analyses which bacteria are present in the middle ear space and adjacent upper respiratory tract niches in healthy people and in patients suffering from chronic otitis media with effusion (OME; glue ear). The aim is to identify and isolate bacteria that are more common and more abundant in healthy people and to evaluate their potential to protect against bacteria commonly involved in OME and other upper respiratory tract infections. To this end, samples will be collected from both groups (healthy vs OME) and analysed through sequencing of the bacterial 16S gene. In addition, samples obtained from healthy participants will be cultivated to isolate bacteria of interest.
A Novel Objective Diagnostic Test for Otitis Media With Effusion
Otitis Media With EffusionOtitis media with effusion (OME) cases refer to a clinically silent condition. Otoscopic findings are subjective and not always reliable. As an objective test tympanometric evaluation is imperfect for diagnosis of OME. The objective of our study was to investigate, in OME cases, the correlation of tympanic membrane color changes with the presence and viscosity of effusion in the middle ear. The study aimed to provide objective diagnostic and therapeutic criteria for patients scheduled for surgery by 2 means: measuring the viscosity of the fluid and evaluating color changes objectively with red-green-blue (RGB) measurements.
The Effect of Tympanostomy Tube Insertion on Sleep in Children With Chronic Otitis Media With Effusion...
Chronic Otitis Media With EffusionSleep DisturbancesThe purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence of sleep disturbances in children with Chronic Otitis Media with Effusion (COME) and the effect of tympanostomy tube insertion (TTI) on sleep disturbances.
Retrospective Analysis of Perioperative Anesthetic Care and Analgesia Management of Patient Undergoing...
Otitis Media With Effusion (OME)This is a retrospective chart review. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively examine the use of perioperative analgesics on the incidence of postoperative pain and emergence delirium in patients undergoing bilateral myringotomy with tube insertion (BTI), as well as events associated with treatment including postoperative vomiting and time to discharge.
