PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well yoga works in controlling symptoms and reducing stress in women with ovarian cancer or breast cancer.

Current guidelines recommend universal genetic testing for all patients with ovarian, fallopian and peritoneal cancer. The purpose of this trial is to investigate the non-inferiority of streamlined genetics education and testing for this patient population when compared to the traditional model of referral to genetic counseling. Patients will be randomized to either the streamlined or the traditional counseling arm. Those in the streamlined group will watch a brief educational video and have the option of immediate testing; The traditional counseling arm will instead be referred for a formal genetics consultation, after which they can choose to be tested. The primary outcome will be a patient reported outcome scale that assesses patient satisfaction with genetic counseling; patient anxiety and distress and cost effectiveness when using both strategies will also be evaluated. The study poses minimal risk to the patients that would not be encountered during standard of care genetic counseling.

An Exploratory Study of the Folic Acid-tubulysin Conjugate EC1456 in Ovarian Cancer Subjects Undergoing...

Ovary Cancer

This study looks to enroll subjects with ovarian cancer who will be having standard of care surgery to remove ovarian cancer tumors. The main aim of this study is to be able to observe how EC1456 has been taken in and broken down inside tumors. The effect of EC1456 on the tumor will also be studied. This study will also help us compare the amount of EC1456 seen in tumors and how the tumors are imaged by the 99mTc-etarfolatide single-photon emission tomography (SPECT) or single-photon emission tomography with in-line x-ray computed tomography (SPECT/CT). All subjects will undergo a 99mTc-etarfolatide SPECT or SPECT/CT scan within 2 weeks prior to EC1456 administration. Individual subjects will then receive 1 of the following 2 doses of EC1456 pre-operatively: 4 mg/m2 8 mg/m2 EC1456 will be administered at 1 of the following 2 time points: <8 hours before planned surgery 48±4 hours before planned surgery Blood will be collected for pharmacokinetic (PK) studies right after EC1456 dosing and again right before surgery. At the time of surgery, tumor samples will be removed and sent to Endocyte for analysis.

Using the Fogg Behavioral Model, developed from the concept of persuasive technology, this study proposes to develop the Mobile Application for Genetic Information on Cancer (mAGIC) intervention to motivate ovarian cancer survivors to undergo genetic counseling. The overall study objective is to develop and assess the feasibility and effectiveness of a theory-based intervention aimed to encourage ovarian cancer survivors to receive genetic counseling

WISER After Ovarian Cancer - Exercise Pilot Study

Ovarian Cancer

One in four deaths in the United States is due to cancer, and one in three women will develop cancer in her lifetime. Despite improvements in survival among other forms of cancer, ovarian cancer prognosis remains poor. Eighty percent of women with ovarian cancer will present with advanced disease (stage 3 or 4) where 5-year survival ranges from 18-34%.2 Among patients with stage III and IV epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), recurrence rates are high.4 Therefore, interventions focused on preventing recurrence or slowing progression of EOC is a critical problem in the field. The investigators have submitted an R21 to NCI for a dose response exercise intervention trial to examine the dose response effects of aerobic exercise on biomarkers relevant to ovarian cancer progression and recurrence. The reviewers would like assurance that the investigators can recruit ovarian cancer patients into an exercise study and that these women will do the exercise protocol we plan to prescribe in our high dose of exercise.

Use of oral contraceptives (OCs) reduces a woman's risk of ovarian cancer very significantly and the protective effect continues for at least 25 years after use of OCs is stopped; the mechanisms of how this occurs are not understood. We are proposing here to directly study the effect of OCs on the fallopian tube and inclusion cysts within the ovary - sites from which most ovarian cancers are thought to arise - in order to better understand the mechanistic basis for OC protection against ovarian cancer. We think the protection results from reduced cell proliferation. It will lay the foundation for further studies to ensure that the protection against ovarian cancer afforded by 'traditional' OCs is not lost with alterations in OC formulation, and, if possible, to guide development of OC formations to improve further on the protection afforded by OCs.

Glutathione in Preventing Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Paclitaxel and Carboplatin in Patients...

This randomized phase III trial is studying glutathione to see how well it works in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, and/or primary peritoneal cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemoprotective drugs, such as glutathione, may help prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin. It is not yet known whether glutathione is more effective than a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy.
